From the Principal’s desk . . .
The end of the 2014-2015 school year is upon us!
The month of May is marked by year end PAARC testing and i-Ready end of year
benchmarks. While the state mandated portion of the tests we give have made the
news quite a bit this Spring, I have to admit that from an administration standpoint,
with the exception of a few hiccups here and there, the process has gone off
relatively painlessly. Testing is much more endurable than in years past when the
entire process took literally weeks and weeks away from instruction. We have
accomplished this last round of PAARC without interrupting the student’s specials
schedule. Many thanks to Assistant Principal, Donna Mitchell, for her tireless efforts
in coordinating the testing and to our Building Technology Engineer, Mike Unger, for
keeping the plethora of technology in the building “PARRC and CMAS ready” for our
students.
Please join us next week for our spring fundraising event, “Cow Patty Bingo”! The
PVA has outdone itself in preparation for this event and it promises to be fun for the
whole family! The best part about this family social event is that all funds raised will
go directly to benefit our children! Buy your square of turf today for the chance to
win $1000 and better yet, come join us as we enjoy the western band, bake sale and
all the fun, family friendly activities planned for May 15th. The party starts at
5:00pm and I hope to see you all there!

some of our fellow Colorado districts.
REMINDER: Student’s Last Day of School, Friday, May 29, 2015, is a Half Day
All students must be picked up at 12:00 p.m., including ½ day Kindergarten students.
No After Care on Last Day of School: Per the Before/After Care handbook, there will
be no After Care on May 29th. Please be sure to have your student(s) picked up
during carpool at 12:00 p.m. (noon) that day.
Summer C2E Office Hours
Summer office hours for Challenge to Excellence will be Tuesday through Thursday
from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. starting June 2nd. The office will be closed for summer
break June 26th – July 13th.
Final Pick Up Date for Lost and Found
As we wrap up the school year please be sure to take a look at the lost and found items
located in the lunch room. We will be donating all UNNAMED unclaimed items.

Report Cards
Parents please remember to print out your student’s 14-15
report card by 6/30/2015. The 14-15 report cards will not be
available to parents in Parent Portal beginning 07/01/2015.
Student Medication Pick Up
All student medications kept at C2E must be picked up on
May 29th, 2015 when you pick your child up from school.
Medications must remain at school until you pick your
child up and they are leaving for the day. Please park in
a designated parking space and come in to sign for the
medication. Students may not pick them up on their
way out the door as a parent signature is required. All
medications not picked up on May 29th will be destroyed.
If your child will not be attending school on May 29th,
please be sure to pick up their medication on their last
day of school.
Used Uniform Sale – Donations Needed
We are collecting uniforms for the Used Uniform Sale
now and throughout the summer until July 16th, please
see office hours above. Please place your donations in
the bin labeled “Used Uniform Drop” located under
Maximus the Mammoth in the lobby by the office.

Lightning Dismissal Procedure Reminder
Spring is officially here! While it makes for
beautiful blooming flowers and the fresh
smell of rain, it also brings afternoon storms.
Please remember to follow our Lightning
Dismissal Protocol (outlined below and taken
from the C2E Parent/Student Handbook)
when you see the Lightning Flag hanging
outside. It is imperative that we keep all our
students, parents, and staff safe during this
time of year when the weather can be ever changing.
When lightning has been spotted in the area, for each child’s
safety, C2E follows the Douglas County Lightning Dismissal
Procedure: parents are required to walk to the front door and
retrieve their children. If you are uncomfortable leaving your
vehicle, please park in a designated parking space and wait for
the storm to pass. As soon as 30 minutes has passed without
lightning being spotted, normal dismissal will resume. A lightning
flag (pictured) is posted on the front of the building to inform
parents of lightning dismissal. In addition, we will do our best to
also post an announcement via the electronic sign. Students who
walk home from school will not be dismissed until lightning has
not been spotted for 30 minutes.
From the Art Room
The district art show was a great success! This year Challenge to
Excellence had 55 students' artwork in the show. Maria Allen won 2nd
place for middle school Mixed Media. Maria's artwork will be on
display with the other winners at the Parker Arts Center, May 1st May 11th. There will be an awards ceremony for all winners on May
11th – 6:00 p.m. viewing, 7:00 p.m. awards.

Field Day Schedule
Field Day will be Wednesday May 27th. The day will be split up into two sessions.
Morning Session: 8:15 a.m. Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades will be participating in
various games and relay races. They will conclude at 11:30 a.m.
Afternoon Session: 11:40 a.m. 3rd, 4th and 5th grades will be participating. They will
conclude at 2:40 p.m.
Please have all students wear shorts and t-shirts, shoes that cover their feet and most
important sunscreen. You may also want to send a hat and water bottle. Absolutely no
swim suits.
Still need to get your family’s 20 volunteer hours in before
the end of the year? Consider volunteering for Field Day. If you

Kindergarten Newsletter - May 2015
Dear Parents,
We have begun the count-down to the last day of school, and as we write this we are
noticing that 22 school days remain in the current school year. Please know that it has
been our pleasure and honor to have worked closely with your child in an effort to give
them the best possible academic and social skills to move forward here at C2E.
Phonics/Reading: We continue to practice the sounds/letters of the alphabet together
with several digraph sounds like those found in the words hook, tooth, feather, and so
on. Additionally, we introduce new high frequency and sight words on nearly a daily
basis. These words appear each day in the phonics homework. Our next high
frequency word test will be on Thursday, April 30th. Each student has received a list of
the words we will be testing, and we have practiced these words often within the
classroom setting. Your child will have access to I-Ready computerized learning during
the summer--up until July 15. Please be certain that you use this wonderful asset so
your child does not experience an academic setback during the summer. Continue to
read each day; encourage your child to “sound out” unfamiliar words.
Math: Our math lessons continue. As always, the best way to assist your student is to
reinforce our efforts, and to daily check the completed homework. Please review your
students’ homework no only to determine correct answers, but also neat, legible
handwriting. We are noticing that some students continue to struggle with one or
more concepts including addition and subtraction math facts, adding 10 to an existing
number, a number series that asks to determine the least and greatest number, tally
marks, and counting money using mixed coins. All these math skills will be enhanced in
first grade, and it is imperative that your student knows all these basic math
concepts. Again, your child will have access to I-Ready computerized learning during
the summer--up until July 15. Please be certain that you use this wonderful asset so
your child does not experience an academic setback during the summer.
Science: The current science unit is regarding bugs and isopods.
Social Studies: The current unit is titled People in the World

It has been an amazing 2014-2015 school year for your C2E School Accountability
Committee (SAC)!
The SAC Committee has been very busy this 2014-2015 school year focusing on Car Pool
Safety, adopting the Unified Improvement Plan (UIP), conducting a 2014-2015 Parent
Survey and will finish off the year making recommendations to the administration from
those results. We hope you have noticed some positive Car Pool Safety changes that
will help keep our children Safe! You are always welcome to attend the open monthly
meetings to learn and bring your ideas to SAC.
During the 2015-2016 school year The SAC Committee will continue to work with the
C2E administration to adopt the Unified Improvement Plan (UIP) that addresses goals
and objectives for improvements in education at C2E. In addition the SAC reviews and
discusses the PARCC test results, provides input on the C2E curriculum, provides
recommendations on priorities for spending school monies, discusses safety issues
relative to the school environment and addresses other community concerns.
The SAC Committee approved for the 2015-2016 school year the following individuals to
serve. Stacy Matte, Katina Lundberg, Valarie Farrar, Brook Fergon – teacher
representative, Katie Unger – community representative, Jami Pichot – PVA
representative. We would like to Thank Jennifer Tinsley for her years of support as the
PVA President and PVA representative for SAC. Thank you Jennifer! We appreciate your
time and efforts.
If you are interested in attending our final meeting for the 2014-2015 school year, it will
be held on May 22, 2015 at 8:00am.

JAIL ‘N’ BAIL - What is this?!
The Leadership Team will be selling friend/parent/staff “arrest warrants” to students,
May 11th-14th for $1 each. On the night of the event, the Leadership Team will serve
as sheriffs to serve the warrants. Each person can only be arrested once, even if they
have multiple warrants issued for their arrest! The person arrested can serve 5
minutes in our “jail” or pay the Leadership Team bailiffs any monetary amount or
pocket change to bail themselves out. We will also sell warrants at the event, but only
if the person hasn’t already been arrested. Thank you to the Leadership Team for
helping with this fun activity, and thank you to the Hanson family for building our “jail”
for the event.
HELP WANTED!
Volunteers, donations, and pie bakers wanted! We’re looking for volunteers to bake

Science Fair!

Calling all budding scientists! C2E’s Science Fair encourages students’ interest in
science, develops their inquiry and investigation skills, and enhances children’s pride in
completing research projects.
The Science Fair is optional for Elementary grades and mandatory for Middle School
grades. Each teacher has established their own expectations, so please direct all
questions about specific requirements to your child’s science teacher.
The Science Fair organizers are looking for volunteers to assist prior to and during the
Science Fair. We will need chaperones for the younger children to guide them around
the projects, as well as set-up and clean-up crews. We are also looking for judges to

STAFF LUNCHEONS - TEACHER/STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK:
Monday, May 4th – Friday, May 8th
This will be the last in our Staff Appreciation/Luncheon series, but it
will be the most important one of the year! We will be celebrating
Teacher/Staff Appreciation for the entire week of May 4th through
May 8th. We have an event planned each day for our Staff and
Teachers. We want them to feel honored, appreciated, and loved
by our C2E family. This is our opportunity to give back to the ones
that not only teach our children but encourage, direct, challenge,
motivate, and inspire them!

SCIENCE FAIR!
Thursday, May 14th (grades 5-8) and Friday, May 15th (grades K-4)
Calling all budding scientists! C2E’s Science Fair encourages students’ interest in science,
develops their inquiry and investigation skills, and enhances children’s pride in completing
research projects.
The Science Fair is optional for Elementary grades and mandatory for Middle School
grades. Each teacher has established their own expectations, so please direct all questions
about specific requirements to your child’s science teacher.
The Science Fair organizers are looking for volunteers to assist prior to and during the
Science Fair. We will need chaperones for the younger children to guide them around the
projects, as well as set-up and clean-up crews. We are also looking for judges to observe
and evaluate the projects. If you are able to help, please sign-up using the link below.

Next Spirit Wear Days: Friday, April 3rd, and Friday, May 1st
Wow, there are only two Spirit Wear days left in this school year! Help
your kids show their school spirit by ordering quality C2E uniformapproved Spirit Wear items from our providers, Threaded Ink, right here

choose C2E), order, and pick up at your convenience.
On designated “Spirit Wear” days, usually the first Friday of the month, Spirit Wear may
be worn with uniform bottoms.
