All contestants must be at least the minimum age and no more than the maximum age for their division on the day of the competition, May 16, 2015. 2‐ Any act running over four (4) minutes will be disqualified. An act is timed from the first vocal utterance. 3‐ A contestant may compete in only one category. 4‐ For contestants entered in any vocal act, accompaniment tracks with vocal utterances are strictly prohibited. This includes recorded live voices and voices that are produced and recorded synthetically (i.e. synthesizers or digitally sampled). 5‐ A P.A. system will be provided for all contestants. Music accompaniment must be provided by the contestant(s). 6‐ Accompanists are permitted on stage. 7‐ Contestant(s) may choose to play their own instrumental accompaniment or provide a CD. 8‐ All persons assuming visual importance in the act must meet the age qualification of the Youth Talent Contest. 9‐ Judges will be instructed to consider the appropriateness of material used in competition. The Youth Talent Committee recommends that all presentations be tasteful and appropriate for the contestant’s age and for a Family Entertainment Venue. 10‐ The first place overall winner of a sanctioned preliminary contest will be guaranteed an invitation to compete in the Mid‐
South Fair Youth Talent Contest (providing eligibility). 11‐ If the first place winner of a preliminary contest is ineligible to enter the Mid‐South Fair Youth Talent Contest, or has already received an invitation to the Fair, it is up to the Fair Representative as to which act will receive the official invitation. 12‐ All contestants may only enter and exit from designated areas on the stage. 13‐ Anything thrown from the stage at any time will be cause for immediate disqualification. The following are policies in place for the SpringFest Youth Talent Contest and will be strictly adhered to: CONTEST POLICIES 1‐ Judges are not allowed to discuss contestants with anyone other than those on the Judges Panel. Please do not approach judges for explanations regarding their decisions. Anyone attempting to discuss a performance with a judge before, during or after a contest will be disqualified. 2‐ Any protest concerning rule violations must be made prior to the announcement of the winners. Once the winners are announced, the decisions of the judges are final. 3‐ The SpringFest Youth Talent Committee will not tolerate offensive conduct by participants, teachers, parents, or associates. Such conduct can result in future expulsion from the SpringFest Youth Talent Contest. CONTEST CATEGORIES 1‐ Vocal Solo‐ Shall consist of a solo performance by an individual vocalist. Instrumental accompaniment by others is allowed, but must assume the pure character of accompaniment. Contestant(s) may choose to play their own instrumental accompaniment. The test shall be whether the performance would stand alone if the accompaniment were removed. 2‐ Vocal Duet or Group‐ Shall consist of two or more vocalists, male and/or female. Instrumental accompaniment by others is allowed, but must assume the pure character of accompaniment. Contestant(s) may choose to play their own instrumental accompaniment. The test shall be whether the performance would stand alone if the accompaniment were removed. FOR CONTESTANTS ENTERED IN ANY VOCAL ACT, ACCOMPANIMENT TRACKS WITH VOCAL UTTERANCES ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED. THIS INCLUDES RECORDED LIVE VOICES AND VOICES THAT ARE PRODUCED AND RECORDED SYNTHETICALLY (I.E. SYNTHESIZERS OR DIGITALLY SAMPLED). CONTEST AWARDS 1‐ The three (3) highest scores of the overall competition in the junior division and senior division will be awarded trophies. 2‐ Cash prizes will be awarded as follows: Top Junior $100, Top Senior $200. 3‐ Entry fee to the Mid‐South Fair Youth Talent Contest will be paid for by SpringFest Youth Talent Contest for the top overall winner chosen by the judges.
