33 APPENDIX H – Drake Stadium Emergency Action Plan
Drake Stadium is an 11,500 seat soccer and track facility. The stadium is open to the UCLA community
for recreation except during events. Operational plans for Drake are based on the composition and profile
of particular events - expected attendance, make-up of anticipated attendees, etc. Stadium control
begins two hours prior to an event - Game Management Staff monitor the three public entry gates (North,
South and Lower), Game Management confirms that the Access Road gate is locked, Game Management
Staff provide admission control and visual surveillance of entering attendees for prohibited items. In
conjunction with visual barriers, Game Management Staff in key locations prevent intrusion into sensitive
areas; provide direction, information, visual surveillance of attendees, medical and disaster assistance.
The University of California Police Department (UCPD) is the agency responsible for public safety on the
UCLA Campus. They provide both sworn officers and emergency medical personnel. The UCPD
Headquarters and Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center are located less than ½ mile from the stadium.
Los Angeles City Fire Station 71 and 37 are located less than 1 mile from the stadium. Depending on the
operational plan, UCPD may provide an on call or onsite response. The operational plan may call for the
onsite use of private peer security from Contemporary Services Corporation. In the event of an on field
emergency, participant medical response is provided by UCLA Sports Medicine Division in accordance
with the NCAA Sports Medicine Handbook. Game Management coordinates getting medical help for
spectators. The stadium is ambulance accessible at the South, Lower and Access Road entrances. Game
Management provides clearance for ambulances and assistance in keeping spectators clear of an
emergency.
In the event of a disaster, evacuations can be made at the North, South, Lower and Access Road gates as
well as onto the field. Drake Stadium is a regional campus evacuation area. University emergency
command posts will be set-up there.
