Most of the faculty would not embrace on-line classes
Faculty make the decisions about curriculum
Faculty structure does not embrace change

Classrooms of the future
On-line classes?
Students come to UCD to learn from world renowned professors and their research
Multi-media presentations
Perhaps electronics will be outlawed in the classroom
Increased number of students
Address the diversity of students
Address the growing student population
Purpose of on-line education will be to support more students and to enrich their
education
On-lin education should also support the faculty and their teaching
Will it change the price of the courses?
Financial efficiency – change the delivery of lectures
Students don’t come to UCD to get an on-line degree
Technology will allow work to be done anywhere
Availability of phones and computers
New designs on the configuration of classroom space
Removable walls and swiveling chairs
Libraries are being digitized
Students may not need to be in classrooms
Discussion sessions will be important
Video conferencing will be better and more interactive
Gathering places could be classrooms outdoors
Tests and labs on line
Require higher degree of training by professors and TAs
Buildings need to be planned for the future
As main frame computer rooms have become obsolete, buildings need to be evaluated
Libraries of the future will be quite different than the libraries of today
New Recital Hall is a dual model sculpture with moveable walls
Buildings need to last 10-20 years and be adaptable and not rigid structures

Holograms, life like images of the Professor giving a lecture
Museums use holograms so they can be viewed from many angles
Students working across disciplines and collaborating on projects
Create new spaces for labs and meetings for this collaboration
Ability for students to have access to classrooms and labs for their work
Evaluate degrees
Top down organizational structure of degrees needs to be appraised
Physical and cerebral breaks – pantries for food
Evaluate the governance of UC campuses by OP and the Regents
The value of the Regents and the governance and policy structure
Regents not engaged with the campuses
Shared governance – more grassroots
Each UC campus is unique
Ideal university would have shared governance
Develop meaningful structure and ownership of the university
Students are transient and only here for a short time
Build a stronger relationship with the alumni – particularly young alumni
University should have a life long relationship with their students
Greater meaningful relationship with alumni
Committee and Board members need to see decisions being implemented
UC Graduates 250,000
State funding 10%
Need new ways to engage and connect with alumni
Mentorship
