NORTH CAROLINA SPECIAL REPORT 2014 SCHOOL PERFORMANCE CSUSA 2013-14 NORTH CAROLINA HIGHLIGHTS Charter Schools USA Exceeds Expectations in North Carolina North Carolinas Released Statewide Testing in September North Carolina’s state-wide testing results were recently released and in their first year, Langtree Charter Academy and Cabarrus Charter Academy had impressive results. In addition to “proficiency” scores of 3, 4 or 5, North Carolina schools are graded on the percentage of students scoring College and Career Ready (CCR) levels of 4 and 5. Across the board and compared to the state, counties, and local schools, Cabarrus and Langtree greatly exceeded proficiency and CCR expectations! Here are a few highlights: State Level • Cabarrus exceeded state proficiency rates by 16% in reading, 18% in math, and 14% in science. This is a net advantage of over 48% points! • Langtree exceeded state proficiency rates by 20% in reading, 19% in math, and 7% in science. This is a net advantage of over 46% points! • Langtree and Cabarrus outperformed the state, districts and local area schools on College and Career Readiness levels. •C ollectively CCR reading results were more than 15% points higher than the state and districts, and CCR math results were more than 16% points higher. County Level • At the county level, Cabarrus exceeded overall proficiency in reading by 12%, in math by 14%, and in science by 12%. This is a net advantage of 38%. 2 • At the county level, Langtree exceeded overall proficiency in reading by 17%, in math by 16%, and in science by 2%. This is a net advantage of 36%.
