It continues to be the practice of the elementary schools in Chehalis
to make class placement decisions at the building level. Many factors
are considered when the building principal makes placement
decisions:
➤specific academic needs
➤specific behavioral needs
➤equal balance of gender and academic ability
➤information from a student’s current teacher
➤information from parents
If you feel there is specific information about your child that should
be considered when making an appropriate placement for next year,
there will be a Special Consideration Form available for you to pick
up in the school office the week after Spring Break. Compiling class
lists involves a great deal of preparation and thought, therefore it
will be important to return this form by W edn esd ay, Ap ril 22 nd in
order for your input to be considered. Your feedback is important to
us and you can rest assured every effort will be made to select a
placement that is well suited to your child.
Parents of students who will be in 4th grade next year at Olympic
Elementary may schedule a meeting with Mr. Brett Ellingson, school
principal after spring break until April 30th if they have input
regarding placement.
The Smarter Balanced assessment will be administered to all third grade
students M arc h 24-26 and M arc h 30 -Ap ri l 2 using computers. The
Smarter Balanced tests are based on the Common Core State Standards.
Pr ac tic e Tes ts provide a good idea of what the tests will look like. The
Practice Tests are available for grades 3-8, and 11th grade in both English–
Language Arts and Math. Each Practice Test has about 30 questions, as
well as an answer key.

teacher who has been provided professional
development in this area. Parents may
nominate their students for this program.
Nomination forms are available in the R.E.
Bennett office and must be submitted between
M ay 1 st & M ay 21 st to receive consideration.
