Primary Two PE Curriculum Swimming & Water Safety Programme 2015
Swimming is a lifeskill given due importance so that all our pupils have the opportunity
to learn and further develop essential water survival skills. One of the PE department's
targets is to train every child to be water-safe and to swim 15m before she completes
her primary school education. Thus, as part of this programme, the school has engaged
qualified instructors to conduct swimming lessons for the Primary Two pupils. All P2
pupils are strongly encouraged to attend the P2 PE Curriculum Swimming & Water
Safety Programme.

• Pupils should put on their costumes and report in their PE attire.
• Pupils are given time to have a quick wash and change after each swim lesson.
• Pupils with eczema or other skin conditions will be excused earlier to allow them
time to have a proper wash with their own special cleansers.
• Pupils who are exempted will need to be with the class at the pool.

(page 3); Schedule & details of lessons (page 4);
• Do complete the Consent form (page 5) and return it to the class teacher by Monday
13 April.
• All pupils should pack the following into a small bag:
o slippers, swimming gear, underwear, towel & comb.

FAQs : Primary Two PE Swimming & Water Safety Programme 2015
1. Why Swimming/ Water Safety Programme?
Swimming is a lifeskill given due importance so that all our pupils have the
opportunity to learn and further develop essential water survival skills. The
programme aims to inculcate essential water safety and survival skills and to
minimize preventable drowning occurrences and water-related accidents.
Through this progamme, pupils will :
i. have fun and enjoy aquatic activities.
ii. be able to gain water confidence and acquire basic skills such as float, glide
iii. be equipped with basic water survival skills
iv. build stamina and improve swimming techniques
v. learn to be independent in taking care of herself such as showering, dressing
herself, packing one's bag and being responsible for one's belongings
2. Do all pupils have to attend?
All pupils are strongly encouraged to participate. Pupils with medical conditions will
be exempted. We provide a programme specially designed to equip our pupils with
basic aquatic movement skills, We have engaged experts to come in and
complement the teaching. One of the PE department's targets is to ensure that
every child is at least water-safe and can swim 15m unaided before she leaves the
primary school.
4. How are the pupils grouped?
All girls are screened and grouped according to their swimming competency. Pupils
will then be provided coaching/training pitched at their level of competency. There
are two rounds of assessment to ascertain pupils' level of swimming competency as
follows:
1st Assessment - through a survey form prepared by the school and completed
by the parents nd
2 Assessment - screening at the first & second swimming lesson 5. When are the lessons conducted?
The lessons are conducted during school hours. (Please refer to the attached schedule; actual swim time is an hour) 6. What will happen if my child does not participate in the programme?
She will travel with the rest of the class to the pool but she will not swim.
7. Is there any cost involved?
Yes, as qualified instructors have been engaged. The subsidised fee of $20 has been
included in the Resource & Enrichment Programme letter issued by the school. You
are not required to make any further payment.
