October Newsletter
Are you interested in going to Stitches East in October? The October meeting
will be a great night to get together and talk about carpooling.
We're looking forward to seeing everyone's creativity in our Name Tag
Challenge. Bring and wear your name tag. We will be voting on the name tags
and there will be a prize for the most popular!
Jules Means will be holding a hands on workshop and talk to give us all a taste
of Needle felting. Jules was a former member of our group and enjoys many
different kinds of crafts and handwork. Jules has been a knitter, a quilter, a
spinner, a felter, a painter, and is now sewing leather bags and wallets that she
sells om Etsy. Jules will have kits for this project and we will be making an
embellished flower that can be used as a pin, or can be attached to a bag, a
sweater or even a hat. Bring your creative self to the meeting and be ready to
create your own beautiful masterpiece.
If you have not paid for the needle-felting kit, please don't forget to bring
$6 to pay at the meeting. There will be some extra kits so if you didn't sign up,
you will still be able to take the workshop. And if you want to bring friend to the
meeting, they should also be able to pay for a kit.
Next Month
In November, Kate Ellison will be teaching us about Brioche knitting. You will
need to bring 2 colors of contrasting worsted weight yarn and size 7 doublepointed needles, or a small circular needle. We will learn “What is Brioche?”,
knitting Brioche in one color, knitting Brioche in two colors and Kate will have a
pattern for a scarf.
Trip to WEBS!
Start saving your yarn money! Plan ahead! The Guild will be going via bus to
WEBS on Saturday, April 27, 2013. Members only may sign up until January 10,
2013. The cost is $25.00 each. If someone wishes to join the Guild in order to
sign up for the limited seating (25), encourage them to do so. If we have not
SOLD OUT, seats will be available for $35.00 for nonmembers after January
10th.

There are so many tools that we knitters need, but there are two that we
really need: Yarn and needles. We all know how many yarn choices are
out there, but what about knitting needles?
The choices are amazing. Did you know that there are certain types of
needles that work better for certain types of yarn? And there are also
needles that work better for different types of knitting. Pointy needles for
lace knitting, for example.
One thing I know is that when a project and knitter find their perfect
needle match, stitches slip by effortlessly.
Whether it's hardwood or bamboo knitting needles, plastic or metal
knitting needles, straight or circular knitting needles, fixed or
interchangeable knitting needles, the perfect pair are out there just
waiting for you.
But we don't want you to have to buy a pair of every needle type out
there to figure out which you like best, so we did it for you! We tested

Portuguese-style knitting class
2 Saturdays, October 27th & November 3rd, 10-12 noon

Whether you're an English-style thrower or Continental-style picker, come try
your hand at the Portuguese-style of knitting, where you tension your yarn
around your neck or knitting pin. Some find it faster, more efficient & easier on
the hands.
