Kennedy by way of his public—those who elected him to the presidency, provided crucial support during his term in office, and were profoundly affected by his assassination in 1963. Cardiac Rehab Phase III Fitness Center Mondays and Wednesdays 11‐12 p.m. Fitness Center Phase III is a cardiac rehab program committed to teaching a lifetime of fitness, educational programs and promote habits to ensure a satisfying, healthy lifestyle. This maintenance program is designed for those who have recently completed Phase II Cardiac Rehab in addition to those with known risk factors, for those with existing heart problems, or for those simply wishing to improve their level of cardiovascular fitness. Effective bystander CPR provided immediately after sudden cardiac arrest can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival, but only 32 percent of cardiac arrest victims get CPR from a bystander. The Trainers of American Medical Response (AMR) will provide free CPR training. Walk For Life Kayti Meehan Courses FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Westport Country Tuesday, January 28 Chad Kinsman Auditorium Playhouse at 2:30p.m. On Tuesday, January 28th, The Watermark at 3030 Park will host a presentation on the history of the Westport Country Playhouse, with guest speaker Chad Kinsman, Artistic & Management Coordinator for the Playhouse. The event will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the Auditorium Kinsman will discuss the history of the Playhouse and the inner workings of play development and creation, and offer a unique perspective of the behind‐the‐scenes production process that goes into his work. Attendees of the presentation are encouraged to ask questions and participate in an informal and open conversation about the Playhouse. Through education, conservation, research and recreation, Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo provides a wonderfully wild experience. BuildOn is a non‐profit organization that is working through service and education. At Central High school, BuildOn is engaging more than 50 students to do service within their local community, making connections with residents of Fairfield County. This year, Central has already worked with youth, elderly, city beautification projects, community gardens and even marches to promote non‐violence and the importance of education. BuildOn students are dedicating time to gain valuable experiences and life lessons partnering with residents at The Watermark and are looking forward to facilitating a variety of Watermark offerings. Chad Kinsman, Artistic & Management Coordinator. Starting as the Education Intern in 2008, Chad was hired as the Patron Services Supervisor in early 2009, where he helped run the day to day operations of the box office, as well as subscription renewals and new acquisitions. In August 2013, Chad was hired to assist WCP Managing Director Michael Ross and Artistic Director Mark Lamos. Working in conjunction with WCP’s Artistic Team, Chad contributes to season selection, finding new plays, and communicating with artists, Trustees, and donors. Originally from San Antonio, Chad graduated with a BFA in Performance from Stephen F. Austin State University. He also works with local theater companies in various roles. Christian Chapman, is a cinematographer from Easton, Connecticut. He holds an Associate of Science Degree in Digital Filmmaking from The Art Institute of California–Los Angeles. In 2012, he traveled to the Peruvian Amazon to shoot and co‐direct the documentary, La Selva Tranquila, which observes the efforts of locals to both protect and profit from their land. In 2013, he and co–director Paul Jason Hoffman founded the production company, Resonator Films, which produces documentaries focused on environmental conservation and humanitarian efforts. Christian currently lives in New York City, where he is the Operations Manager and a guest curator at the Maysles Documentary Center, a non‐ profit dedicated to inspiring social justice and action through documentary. Rosenberg is an award‐winning critic who writes a column and reviews for The Hour newspapers in Norwalk, Westport, Stamford and Wilton, as well as for local magazines. He co‐founded the Connecticut Critics Circle and is affiliated with Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and the American Theatre Critics Association. Born in Brooklyn, he was educated at Syracuse , Yale , New York University and SUNY/Purchase. His background includes working at CBS Television in New York and teaching English and Drama at several local high schools, as well as at Fairfield University . In addition he is a professional director, having guided over 50 plays and musicals. p g g author of many books, the latest being "My Habitat for Humanity". David was President of Habitat International for many years. He has been teaching at The Watermark for 14 years, as well as providing monthly worship. David is a graduate of Colgate University, with Seminary Degrees from Andover‐ Newton and Palmer Theological schools, and three years of auditing classes at Harvard Divinity School and its "School of World Religions". He is the founder and President of "Friends of Christ in India", a charitable organization that serves among the poor in South India. David is in his third year of teaching the course, "Literature that Feeds our Faith"....at each session the class discusses books, mostly novels, that wrestle with all the big issues of life. Each class also looks at current items of "Religion in the News". Jon Haight has worked as a wine retailer, consultant, wine journalist, and as a wine educator. For over 20 years he has taught wine appreciation classes at the University of New Haven and is also a Certified Spanish Wine Educator. Jon has traveled to many of the world's greatest wine producing regions and has been making wine for over 25 years. Currently Jon runs weekly educational tastings at a wine shop, does public and private classes throughout Connecticut and conducts wine classes at Jones Winery. Kayti Meehan began training to be a group exercise instructor in 1999, after the birth of her second son. She received her National Certification from the Aerobics and Fitness Association (AFAA) in March 2001. In the same year she became a certified teacher of the Silver Sneakers Fitness Program. Silver Sneakers is the nation's leading exercise program designed exclusively for older adults. In 2004 she received the AFAA Personal Training Certification enabling her to train individual clients and customize workout programs specifically to their needs and fitness goals. In the past ten years she has completed numerous workshops enabling her to teach a wide variety of group exercise classes to all ages including: mat science (Pilates), aqua aerobics, stretch and flexibility, cardio circuit, resistance training and step aerobics. She appeared in the winnning Tony award and Grammy nominated revival of Stephen Sondheim’s musical, Company , in which she played a leading role (Sarah) as well as flute, sax and piccolo. This revival also won the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Drama League Awards for Best Revival of a Musical. The production was filmed and aired on PBS’s Great Performances and is available on DVD. Kristin has performed with professional operas, theaters and symphonies around the US and in Europe, including: Papermill Playhouse, Cincinnati Playhouse, Opera Columbus, Maine State Music Theatre, Indianapolis, Alabama, Seattle, Portland, Lake Charles, Columbus and Alabama Symphonies, Ogunquit Playhouse, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Ford’s Theatre, Civic Light Opera of Pittsburgh, Lancaster Festival, and the European tour of Phantom.Her varied background includes Miss Ohio and Runner‐up to Miss America, a reporter/broadcaster for NBC, The PBS series “Young American Heroes”, commercials and many appearances and performances for charity organizations. She continues producing and hosting charity events for many including groups involved with breast cancer, Alzheimer’s, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Children’s charities, Special needs groups and created “The Powerful Image Event” series to help teach non profits and businesses how to work together synergistically to not only survive in this economy, but to prosper. Norma Schmidt, M. Div., SolAmor Hospice chaplain. Norma has been leading bereavement support groups since 2007. Peter Greenwood, Peter's work has been shown in museums and galleries throughout the United States, and is included in numerous private collections worldwide, including the Louvre in Paris. Peter has been the recipient of multiple awards for excellence in his craft. Paul Jason Hoffman graduated from The George Washington University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs. He concentrated on International Development Studies and minored in Political Science. He has interned at the United States African Development Foundation (USADF) and the World Food Program USA (WFP USA), and most recently, at 4th Row Films. He is currently producing content for Resonator Films. Ross Crolius recently retired from the Metropolitan Opera after spending twenty‐five years with the company as a full‐time chorister. During that time he performed an average of 180 performances each season in operas ranging from Handel to Philip Glass, singing in 6 different languages. He performed in nearly 50 “Live from the Met” telecasts as well as singing in a half dozen opera recordings under the direction of Maestro James Levine. During his career at the Met, Ross was chosen to perform a number of small solo roles in many operas including Rigoletto, IL Trovatore, I Pagliacci, La Boheme and Der Rosenkavalier. Despite the demands of his rigorous Met schedule, Mr. Crolius continued to remain active as a concert soloist and recitalist in the New York area. An avid enthusiast of small vocal ensemble singing, Ross founded and managed a male vocal quartet called Songfellows that was originally formed from the ranks of the Met chorus. Mr. Crolius’ prior musical background includes two seasons performing with the Gregg Smith Singers, a three year enlistment in the Soldiers Chorus of the U.S. Army Field Band, and degrees from the Peabody Conservatory of Music and the Eastman School of Music. Since his retirement from the Met, Ross has shifted his focus to teaching voice and lecturing about opera. Courses FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Suri Levow Krieger is the Rabbi of Kerhonkson Synagogue, in upstate New York, and Chavurat Bet Chai in Westchester, NY. She also teaches at University of Bridgeport, Sacred Heart University, and Merkaz Hebrew High School of Bridgeport. Her first love and connection to Judaism has always been through the arts; she was the music and drama director at Solomon Schechter Day School, Bergen County, NJ for some 20 years. In her teaching she weaves a tapestry of story, song, prayer and poetry. Her credentials include a PhD and Rabbinic Ordination. Rabbi Suri’s mission includes building bridges between communities and peoples of different faiths by learning, singing and doing together. Susan Kennedy joined us as a fitness instructor in the Vitality Fitness Center a few months ago. She resides in Trumbull with her husband and two children. Her certification is with A.C.E. (American Council on Exercise) and with A.F.A.A. (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America) as a personal trainer. She is also certified with Yogafit and Youth Fitness through A.C.E. Her experience and education covers a range of interests, including women’s strength training, BOSU training and has taught and trained clients in various settings for 10 years. She believes in principles and programs that work safely and effectively to promote better health through physical activity. Sue states “I am dedicated to fitness and look forward to helping people not only achieve their personal fitness goals, but live healthier lives. Our health and well being should be a top priority for all of us!” Amen. Suzanne Palazzi settled in the states from England after traveling the globe as a professional dancer. She took her first Zumba Training workshop with Tanya Beardsley and was truly inspired by her! "I try to bring her energy and attitude to every class I teach!" Suzanne's certifications include AFAA, CPR, and AED. Walt Matis works as Program and Volunteer Coordinator for the Fairfield Museum and History Center. He loves to read and he considers himself a student of history. He is a wealth of historic knowledge that he shares with others on a daily basis. Wayne Hiller is a self taught musician who has his own band The Wayne Hiller Band. This well‐known band has brought much enjoyment to his audiences for many decades. Wayne not only plays the piano beautifully, he gives interesting background information about the songs he plays and the artists that performed them. Resident Bio: Gloria Cole Sugarman has been an editor, theater critic for the United Press International, travel writer for the New York Times and the Connecticut Post, and her work on documentaries has been seen on NBC TV. She has been an on‐camera theater reviewer for Connecticut Public Television and written free‐ lance features for Ladies Home Journal, Seventeen. Connecticut Magazine, Westport Magazine and London Theater News. For Gannett newspapers and the Connecticut Post, she has covered the world of theater, interviewing and profiling countless actors, directors, writers and producers. Her intimate professional association with theater is reflected by her membership with Drama Desk, American Theater Critics Association, and the International Theater Critics Association. Courses FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Irene Backalenick has been reviewing theater for the past 30 years, serving in recent years as theater critic for the CT Post. Originally a journalist, writing for The New York Times and other national newspapers and magazines, she returned to school, gaining a Ph.D in theater history and criticism… numerous writing awards and membership in professional groups (including the Conn. Critics Circle, which she and David Rosenberg co‐founded), the Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk, and the American Theater Critics Association.. Marilyn Diamondstone, mother of a daughter, and 3 grandaughters in Westport. A Nusrse and Social worker for over 30 years. Her passion includes a love for animal of all sorts. Since moving to 3030 Marilyn has been involved in 3 fundraisers raising over 4k to benfit local charites. Marilyn is an Ambassador, the Head Librarian, the Vice President of teh Resident Council, Chair person Health & Wellness committee In her spare time she enjoys spending time with friends. Mary Scoran, joined the Watermark family in January 2010 with her husband Gene. Mary's passion for knitting began at the tender age of 10 when her mom began to teach her. Mary always liked to be constructive. Knitting hats is her favorite project because it is so easy to do, it is also very simple to teach. Mary was born in Connecticut but raised in the Bronx until the age of 17 when she returned to Connecticut. Mary looks forward to welcoming new members to the knitting group this semester. Susan Chrien and her husband Robert moved to The Watermark from Long Island. Together they have two sons and two daughters of whom they are so proud. Susan graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art, received a B.S. in Education from Kent State Ohio and a Masters in Art History from Western Reserve. Susan spent many years as an Art teacher working with children from Kindergarten on up. If she is not attending a show, spending time at church or with her family, Susan enjoys counted cross stitch and reading. Associate Bios: , , g born in NYC and grew up in Norwalk, CT. He graduated with a BA in Political Science from Rockford (IL) College where he was a collegiate swimmer. He has three grown children and one granddaughter. He is an avid sports fan with his favorite teams being the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. Carol Gonclaves, Since April 23, 1979 she has been a staple in our community. As the Assistant Plant Director she works hard, but she also finds time to have fun with family. She enjoys going to the beach, dancing salsa and enjoying margaritas in the back yard. She loves to travel when she can and looks forward to one day visiting Hawaii. Cindy Fallon McGuire has a BS in Recreation and Leisure Education from SCSU (Southern CT State University) and a MS in Biology with a concentration in Nutrition from UB (University of Bridgeport). She is also certified with AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America) as a group exercise instructor. With over 25 years of experience in the fitness profession teaching a variety of fitness classes as well as managing multisport facilities, her interest in fitness and wellness is to provide practical healthy lifestyle information to all ages. In addition to fitness, she also teaches Anatomy and Physiology at Sacred Heart University and St. Vincent’s College. Cindy lives in Shelton with her husband and son who keeps her fit and young at heart. Denise M. Rozelle, Sales Associate, is a lifelong Fairfield resident. She and her husband Jim have two children, Owen and Madison. Denise came to The Watermark with 16 years of Sales Management experience. She chose The Watermark because it's such a beautiful community and she wanted to work with seniors. Donna Jones, Director of Nursing, Mom of 2, Grandmother of 3 and long time resident of Connecticut. Since the age of 14 Donna has always known that nursing was the career path for her. What she loves best about nursing is her ability to touch lives and meet new people every day. Donna's favorite pastimes include dominoes, karaoke, cooking, gardening and meditating to keep centered and focused. d Roman, xecutive irector, has lived in Fairfield for the past 5 years with his wife and two sons. Ed’s background in health care started in hands‐on nursing care. The former Marine earned his RN degree in 1995 at Bridgeport Hospital. After serving as a staff nurse, private duty nurse, surgical nurse and RN administrator for individuals with spinal cord injury. In the seniors housing industry, Ed worked his way up the ranks from Director of Resident Care to Associate Director and Executive Director, and served nine years at Edgehill Retirement Community in Stamford. He has earned top honors along the way for his leadership and performance, including a 5‐star Medicare quality rating and deficiency‐free state surveys. Erle Gerangaya, Assistant Director of Nursing, is an avid boater and fisher. In the warm weather he enjoys sailing the shores of Connecticut with his wife and two year old daughter. He says "it's a great way to relax, reconnect with family and take in the beautiful Connecticut Coast Line". Erle is excited to share his passion with the residents of The Watermark. Courses FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Marlane Argianas Community Life, PR Liaison, is most proud of her children: Garett a meteorologist and Stephanie a student. She comes from a close knit family and loves to cook for them on holidays. She enjoys reading especially mysteries and historical books. Marlane has worked at The Watermark for over 14 years and thinks of the residents as her extended family. Lewis Sperro, Plant Operations Director, long time Connecticut resident, avid animal lover and father of 6 pugs, 1 rabbit and 2 turtles. In his spare time he enjoys riding his motorcycle along coastline. Lewis also volunteers for the Audubon society and is excited to share photos from some of his most memorable encounters with North American Birds. Michael Stevens, Chef at The Watermark. Michael is originally from Jamaica and has studied under many international Chefs while establishing his expertise in cooking. Michael has a passion for food which has lead him to cook for over 30 years thus far. When he is not at work, he likes to focus on teaching responsibility to his 2 daughters ages 14 and 16. Pradheep Shankar, Director of Food Services, responsible for overseeing all the communities dining rooms, culinary operations, bar's lounge and catering activities. He previously worked at the Hartford Marriott Hotel and has held various positions throughout the industry with Hilton, Radisson, Intercontinental Hotels, Water's Edge Resort and Spa and Scandinavian World Cruise Lines. He is a graduate of Kilburn Polytechnic, London and University of Salzburg, Austria. Robert (Bob) Ferri, Business Office Manager, is a native New Yorker. After attending Iona Prepatory School and Iona College, he worked in a number of Industries including publishing, software development and healthcare. He enjoys gardening, cooking, reading and going to the Giants football games. Currently Bob lives in Norwalk with his wife Debbie and two miniature poodles, Liza and Fred. He is very happy to be part of The Watermark Team. Kelly Green, Assisted Living Program Director, born and raised in Connecticut and a graduate of sacred Heart University. Kelley is very outgoing she enjoys traveling with her husband, crafting and entertaining in her spare time. Tracy‐Ann Samuel, Director of Community Life, is the mother of a very outgoing little girl. She enjoys experimenting with crafts and going to museums. Tracy received a Bachelors in Psychology from Hunter College and a Masters Degree in Public Health Administration from Mercy College. She is constantly amazed by the amount of inspiration and energy found within residents and the associates. Tracy considers herself an ambassador for fun, always seeking out ways to enjoy life by creating fun experiences for others.
