Summer Updates
As we go into our cherished summer season – trying to forget the many feet of snow that
once covered the now reawakened ground – there are a few things that I wanted you to
know about:
 The Harris House Working Group has been busy over these last two months interviewing 3 general
contractors. Once a firm is selected, a process begins to create design drawings for possible construction
of a new parish house. No decision has been made to either repair or rebuild. At the same time we need
an architect to convene conversations with parishioners beginning over the summer to begin to determine what kind and size of building might serve our ever-changing needs as a parish. Our goal is to have
clarity on a consensus-based decision by our Annual Meeting January 24, 2016. I look forward to this
stage of the conversation as we assess both the opportunities and challenges of such possibilities.
 Our staff continues to find new ways to do our work with Darla Watt working part time in the office
and a new 10-hour a week building manager Mark Antlitz learning his way around the grounds. We are
grateful for these new additions and continue to ask for patience and understanding as we find the right
balance of how to carry out our work.
 Speaking of the staff: we met for our annual planning day to look back at the program year and look
ahead. We asked: what worked and what might need adjustment? Our new Sunday School curriculum
was well received, and we need to work to find new ways to group the children for activities and learning
that best suit their energy. We are finding it helpful to gather in Harris Hall to begin the morning. Thank
you to the parents who helped out!
 Sunday morning Bible study will return in September. We began using BibleWorkbench materials last
fall and regularly gathered 10-12 people for study. You are welcome to come in and out of this group as
your time allows. If and as we grow, we can form another group. Deepening our faith with regular Bible
study is a vital part of growth as individuals and as community.
 We are scheduling a few Community Forum times over the next program year. Let me know if you
would like to help with those programs.
 The midweek offering, Living in Faith, was rich in conservation yet was not well attended Wednesday
evenings this past year. We are thinking about what might be the best time and format to add opportunities for study, prayer and sharing next year.
 Finally, the interest with our growing ministry with the Episcopal Church in Cuba continues to grow
and deepen. I am planning to offer another trip in April or May of 2016, perhaps in conjunction with the
Exeter Rotary Club of which I am a member. Christ Church has a unique window to be part of the opening up of the island after decades of isolation. Praying for and visiting our Christian brothers and sisters
is a wonderful way to live out our vision to serve the global community.
Enjoy the summer. Take in these long days. Give thanks for this time. 

Summer Fun!
How many times since late January did I long for the days of May through September?
Those lazy hazy crazy days of summer, along with the allergies that go with the territory!
But since Mark and I are going with briefer homilies during the weeks of summer schedule,
I will also offer you a briefer article this time. Savor this time of re-creation with God! Join us
when you can for worship at 8:00 or 9:30 with “coffee hour in the courtyard.” Do the Saturday night camp over if that works for you. Keep your eye on the weekly email while you enjoy the beach, golf
course, tennis court, or your back yard grill. Live in the moment and have a good time!
And finally, I won’t allow you to forget July 19 until it is past. Join us for the fifth annual outing to the Fishercats
game. See the article in this Anchor and weekly email. Email me right away at dholroyd@christchurchexeter.
org to tell me if you are going and how many tickets you would like. See you at the tailgate party and the game
between the New Hampshire Fishercats and the Portland Sea Dogs–baseball the way it should be! 

Fishercats Game on July 19
Everyone who is riding on the bus to the Fishercats Game on Sunday, July 19 is invited to join the choir to
sing the National Anthem. We will rehearse the piece on the bus ride to Manchester. There’s just one requirement, and that is dress. In order for the group to have a uniform appearance, we ask that singers wear khaki
casual slacks and light blue shirts.
Steinway Piano Restoration Project Update
The Buy-A-Key campaign for the restoration of the Steinway grand
piano in the church’s sanctuary is continuing. A piano has 88 keys
and we will reach our goal of $24,000 if 88 Christ Church families
give $275 each. You can buy one key, or two, a triad, or even an
octave! Checks can be sent to the church with “Piano Restoration”
in the memo line.
As of today, we have sold 68 keys, and have only 20 left to sell.
People have bought individual keys, groups of keys, even a scale
spelling out the first name of loved one. Check the keyboard diagram in Harris Hall for an update of our progress!
Thanks to all those that have participated!

Needed for our Children at the Church
You may have noticed that our wood jungle gym in the back yard is now gone. It did yeoman’s duty for many
years but it unfortunately rotted out and had to be removed. We would love to replace it so if you have a gym
your kids are too big to use any more and it is in good condition, please call the church office. We will be glad
to come and take it down for you and re-erect it in our yard!
Cinderella – Open Auditions
In the past, the Youth Theatre Program has created a safe space for children, youth and adults to discover new truths about themselves through
storytelling, acting and singing and present those truths to the community.
Auditions are open to all Christ Church & community members ages 8

is a need for adults both on and off stage. Please visit christchurchexeter.

Watts ([email protected]) to sign up as a volunteer.
• Providing Food: Volunteers provide food by 6:00pm on one evening during a hosting week.
• Evening Host: Volunteers spend the evening (5:30pm-8:00pm) with the guests, eating dinner with them and
being the Christ Church presence to answer questions, open doors, and handle any urgent situations that
may arise. Please note, Safe Church Training is required for this position.
• Overnight Host: Volunteers spend the night with guests, arriving for duty by 8:00pm and leaving by 7:30am.
Volunteers are responsible for locking and unlocking doors, and being a presence in case of an overnight
emergency. Please note, Safe Church Training is required for this position.
• Laundry Volunteers: Volunteers collect and clean dirty laundry at the end of each host week and return it
clean before next host week.
Part of the national Family Promise organization (formerly Interfaith Hospitality Network), Seacoast Family
Promise unites congregations of various faiths to assist families experiencing homelessness due to a crisis.
These families are no different from you or me; they have just had one too many things go wrong. When they
enter the SFP program, they are given hope and encouragement.
Please Help Children with Gift Certificates for the First Day of
School in August
As we do every year, Christ Church will once again help with the SAU16 drive
for children whose families could really use some support. We will supply gift
certificates for new clothes for the first day of school, along with a gift certificate for a new pair of shoes. We would also like to do gift certificates to L.L.
Bean, for their backpacks (they specified L.L. Bean, because it will last for a few
years, and if anything happens to them, they will replace them with no questions asked). Gift certificates can be left on Darla’s desk in an envelope marked “Project Reach Out”. If you do
not like to shop, you can make a check out to Christ Church and put “Feed My Lambs/Project Reach Out” in
the memo section. Gift certificates should be from WalMart, Target or Payless. Thank you, and if you have any
questions, please call Darla in the church office at 772-3332.
