The issues addressed by the Voter Guide are limited specifically to the position of candidates on matters of the Biblical Family and Protecting the Lives of Unborn Children. It is not meant to be the sole source of information for making your decision. Sources used for this guide are believed to be genuine and accurate. Every voter is encouraged to seek out information independent of this guide to make their own, informed decision. Biblical Family issues will be an important element of the City Commission Election in this next cycle. In 2012, the City Commission wrestled with the question of an ordinance to establish Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, Gay, and Transgenderidentified individuals as a specific group for whom provisions were to be provided. The law was titled Ordinance 2012-296 and lost by a single commissioner’s vote. Communities in Duval County, namely Atlantic Beach and Neptune Beach, have passed laws enacting such provisions. The outcomes of these provisions are having a significant impact on the faith communities through out the United States, including here in Florida. Candidates’ positions on Protecting the Lives of Unborn Children have an important role in the ability to work on a local level to save women, men, families, and unborn children from the devastation wrought by local abortion facilities. KEY ELECTION INFORMATION DATES Election Day: March 24, 2015 Early Voting Begins: March 9, 2015 Early Voting Ends: March 22, 2015 VOTING SITES Found at the Supervisor of Election website: www.duvalelections.com WHY SHOULD CHRISTIANS BE INVOLVED IN THE PUBLIC SQUARE? A Christian view of love and compassion compels us. Matthew 22:39 John 11:33-38 Luke 10:25-37 A Christian View of human being assumes it. Matthew 25: 31-46 Effectiveness of our evangelism depends on it. Galatians 5:5 Titus 2:14 Ephesians 2:10 Matthew 5:16 A Christian view of government requires it. Mark 12: 13-17 Romans 13:1-4 1 Tim 2:1-4 Acts 5:29 The character of God and the Lordship of Christ requires it. Isaiah 58 Daniel 4:32 Psalm 146: 7-9 We must love our neighbor as ourselves. Love involves a sense of outrage in the face of evil. Love requires we take action. We must take seriously man’s physicals, emotional, and social needs. Good works are a consequence of evangelism. Good works are a bridge to evangelism. Good works are a consequence of evangelism. Government is ordained of God to reward good and punish evil. Government maintains the social order so that the gospel may go forth. Our submission to government is limited; we must hold it accountable to a higher standard. God is the God of the secular as well as of the sacredHe is critical of superficial religion. God is Lord over all nations. God is concerned with justice as well as mercy.
