RULES & REGULATONS
Every class offered is conducted and judged in accordance with the rules and specifications of
the current CHSA, CHJA and NEHC rule books. In order to compete for annual awards in these
organizations membership is required. Membership is required to enter CHJA & NEHC Medal
classes. Membership forms, rule books and class specs are available at Secretary’s Stand and
at chsaonline.com, ch and nehc.net.
1. Please Pre-Enter: All entries received by mail or fax prior to 6:00 PM, the Friday, before the
show will cost as listed. Payment not due until day of the show. After 6:00 pm. Friday a $20 post
entry fee will charged for the day. No payment due until picking up number.
2. Open to all riders. It is not necessary to be a CHSA, CHJA or NEHC member, however, to
compete for those Annual Horse Awards, the horse or pony must be registered by a member of
the respective Association. All ages are as of 12/1/14. Juniors under 18.
3. Management may cancel/combine/add/divide classes or alter the schedule, or not delay
classes due to conflicts with exhibitors or trainers. It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to notify
management of conflicts in advance to institute reasonable holds. No refunds.
4. Decision of Judges is final. No one may approach a Judge regarding a decision or check a
Judge's Card unless s/he first obtains permission from the Steward
5. Proper attire required. In hunters, hunt equitation and jumpers hard hats with full harness
required for all jumping, in competition or in schooling.
6. Entry Fees must be paid or an open check left before numbers are issued.
7. Judges or Show Committee may excuse any horse, rider or spectator considered un-sound,
unmanageable or discourteous. Entry fees will forfeited.
8. Dogs must be leashed for safety purposes. A $25 fee will be charged for loose dogs.
9. To be eligible for Championship and/or Stake classes, the exhibitor or horse must have
shown in at least one qualifying class in that division.
10. Class fees: $25; Stake classes $30. Medals $30.00.
11. No alcohol permitted on the grounds.
LEAD REIN - CHSA , CHJA
Children under 7 (Hunt Seat) or under 8 (Stock and Saddle Seat) as of 12/1/14 who have not
competed in other than lead rein classes. To be led by an adult.
WALK, TROT / JOG - CHSA, CHJA, NEHC ‘B’ Open to riders 10 and under as of 12/1/14, who have not shown in classes requiring them to
canter or jump. May not enter into any other classes. Hunt Seat, Saddle and Western Seat
SHORT STIRRUP EQUITATION - CHSA , CHJA, NEHC ‘B’ (Equitation)
Riders 12 and under as of 12/l/14 who have never competed over fences exceeding 18" in a
recognized show. 18” X rails. Riders may not enter into any other classes except Short Stirrup
Hunter and Pleasure. Classes.
BEGINNER RIDERS 11 AND OVER (as of 12/1/14) - CHSA, NEHC ‘B’
Juniors and Amateurs in their first years of showing and who have not cantered or jumped at
any recognized show. Riders are not eligible for any other divisions. To be shown at a Walk,
Trot or Jog only. Will divide English & Western/ Adults and Juniors if entries warrant.
MAIDEN HUNT SEAT - No Points - Open to all ages
Riders who have not won a blue ribbon in Hunt Seat Equitation at a recognized show.- 2’
PRE-CHILDREN’S HUNT SEAT EQUITATION - CHSA, CHJA
Junior riders eligible for Limit Equitation and who have never shown over fences exceeding 2’6”
at a recognized horse show. At the same show riders may not cross-enter into
Children’s Equitation, Children’s Hunter Pony, Pony Hunter, any medal class over 2’ or any
classes where fences exceed 2’6”. Horses or ponies - fences 2’0”
CHILDREN'S HUNT SEAT EQUITATION - CHSA , CHJA, NEHC ‘B
Exhibitors not to have shown over 3’. Fences 2' for small and medium ponies. Large ponies and
horses to jump 2' 6" . No combinations. Riders may not cross enter into Junior Equitation or
any classes with fences over 3’ .
LONG STIRRUP HUNT SEAT EQUITATION

Riders 13 and over in their first years of showing. Riders not eligible for any other classes other
than Pleasure. Fences 18” - 24”.

Three obstacles set in a straight line. Beginning at 2’9”. Those going clean will return for
next round at raised height. Must have 4 to run. There will be a 50% additional cash

local rules of the competition. Should any dispute or question arise, it shall be referred to the Show Committee, whose decision shall be
final. I, THE UNDERSIGNED, agree that I choose to participate voluntarily in the competition with my horse, as a rider, driver, handler,
lessee, owner, agent, coach, trainer, or as parent or guardian of a junior exhibitor, and am fully aware and acknowledge that horse sports
and the competition involve inherent dangerous risks of accident, loss and serious bodily injury including broken bones, head injuries,
trauma, pain suffering or death. I agree to indemnify (that is, to pay any losses, damages or costs incurred by) the competition, the show
management, the Bethany Lions Club, the Sleeping Giant Pony Club, CHSA, CHJA, NEHC, AHCC CMHA, the Town of Bethany, and to
hold them harmless with respect to claims for harm to me or my horse and from any harm caused by me or my horse to others, at the competition. If I am a parent, guardian or trainer of a junior exhibitor, I consent to the child’s participation and agree to all the above provisions
