Things Above from Fr. Bilot
I would like to re-cap some of the
events that occurred here at Divine
Child last weekend. (I want to give you
a sampling of what weekends are like
here on campus.)
On Friday evening, parishioners
attended the ChristLife series to enrich
and enliven their faith in the Lord and
the Church. On Saturday, after 8:30 AM
Mass, we had a funeral and, in the
early afternoon, a wedding, followed by
Confessions, Mass and Confessions. In the midst of these
beautiful Sacraments and Rites of the Catholic Church, there
was play practice for the elementary school and the Mark
Carpenter Track Invitational hosted by the high school with
hundreds of people coming to our campus from all over the
State of Michigan. There was the elementary school chess
club event and a lacrosse home game. On Sunday, after the
celebration of the Masses to praise the Lord for his love for
us, we celebrated the Sacrament of Baptism. There was the
Spring High School Jazz and Symphonic Band concert, the
high school Fine Arts Department Art Show, a CYO track
event and Youth Ministry. This doesn’t even take into
consideration all of the home baseball games that were being
held across the street at Levagood Park. The parish is very
much alive and filled with excitement, and I am grateful for all
those who help to make our parish a thriving community of
prayer, service and activity.
As of this writing, we were preparing for Bishop Hanchon
to be here on Tuesday, May 5, for the celebration of the
Sacrament of Confirmation. On Saturday, May 9, we
celebrated First Holy Communion for our young faithful of the
parish. These children are on fire to receive the Lord! I pray
that the desire and hunger for the Lord never leaves our
youth, as it has for so many touched by the deception of the
one I will not mention. Please say a prayer for our youth, that
the Holy Spirit will always guide them in the ways of the Lord!
Happy Mother’s Day! Today, we celebrate the great gift
of motherhood. All of us are blessed to be here because of
our mothers (and fathers) who said “yes” and gave us life!
Despite our humanness and the fragility of life, I pray that we
all take some time to thank God for our lives and for our
mothers, living and deceased. I ask that we also remember
our spiritual mother, Mary, who said “yes” to God to be the
mother of Our Savior, Jesus Christ. Without her "yes," we
would still be floundering, awaiting a savior to open the gates
of heaven. With her love, confidence and humility, she
submitted to the Will of God and gave us all the gift of God’s
Son, Jesus. Please make an effort to pray the rosary each
day. Even if you cannot do all five decades, at least do one
or two. The calm, peace and assurance the rosary provides
is truly a gift!
Finally, we are trying to wrap up our CSA (Catholic
Services Appeal) for 2015. Unfortunately, we have not made
our goal of $205,502...we are short $39,212. I ask that if you
Page 3
have not contributed to the CSA, which provides
great works of service in the Archdiocese, please
do so. If we do not make our goal, we have to take
it out of our savings and our budget is very tight. I
do not desire to take money out of reserves for
something if it can be avoided by all of us
participating.
If you have any questions or
concerns, don’t hesitate to call me or stop me after
Mass.
In gratitude for life, for the hectic pace of our
parish, for God’s abiding presence in the
Sacraments and our Blessed Mother’s calming
presence, we can continue to be a people of faith,
hope and love! And thanks, Mom (and dad), for
giving me the gift of life!

Commentary
Corpus Christi
Eucharistic Procession
As you know, Holy Mother Church
encourages us to adore our Lord Jesus
Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. The
Solemnity of Corpus Christi (or The Most
Holy Body and Blood of Christ) is a
specific day within the liturgical year in
which the Church encourages us to adore Jesus Christ in the
Eucharist by way of a Eucharistic Procession. The Code of
Canon Law tells us, “"Wherever in the judgment of the
diocesan Bishop it can be done, a procession through the
streets is to be held, especially on the solemnity of the Body
and Blood of Christ, as a public witness of veneration of the
Blessed Eucharist. It is for the diocesan Bishop to establish
such regulations about processions as will provide
participation in them and for their being carried out in a
dignified manner" (Can. 944 §1,2). It is also helpful to know
that, “such processions can take place throughout the
liturgical year but are "especially" encouraged on the feast of
Corpus Christi. No other devotion has received such attention
in the Code of Canon Law which shows the importance the
Church attaches to this feast. It is one of the few feasts which
is
mentioned
along
with
Holy
Days
of
Obligation” (www.therealpresence.org).
This year we would like to have a Corpus Christi
Eucharistic Procession here at the Church of the Divine
Child. We would have the procession on Corpus Christi,
Sunday June 7th (which just so happens to be the one year
anniversary of my priestly ordination). The procession would
begin at the Church and then we would process through the
neighborhood and then back to the Church. I would like to
know how many of you would be willing to join the
procession on Corpus Christi. If you would want to be a
part
of
it,
please
email
Marilyn
O’Brien
([email protected]) or call the rectory office and let
us know. A Eucharistic Procession is a powerful public
witness to our faith as Catholics, and it impacts those who are
a part of it and those who witness it. Please consider being a
part of it!

Evangelization
This fall we would like to have tables or “stations” set up
at our campus held athletic events. These stations will have
religious articles and information regarding our Catholic faith
available to those who attend these athletic events. We would
like to have “teams” of parishioners who would be willing to
run these stations and evangelize. How does one evangelize?

OPENINGS FOR DIVINE CHILD PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL
Divine Child Parish Council has one opening for a Representative-at-Large. Duty of the Rep-at-Large is to serve as a
liaison between the parishioners and the Parish Council. If a parishioner has a concern or suggestion, they may relate
this to the Rep-at-Large who, in turn, would present it at a Parish Council meeting for discussion. Serving on Divine
Child’s Parish Council is an excellent opportunity for parishioners to actively participate in our parish and provide
feedback to the pastoral and educational staff regarding visions, hopes and needs for our parish. Candidate for this
position must be a practicing Catholic, at least 18 years of age, a registered parishioner of Divine Child and serious
about their faith. No other particular expertise or academic credentials are required.
Parish Council Meetings are held on the third Monday of the month at 7:00 PM in the Elementary School MPR from
August through June. Meetings last approximately 1-1/2 hours. Names will be drawn by lot at the 9:30 AM Mass on
May 24, 2015 (Pentecost Sunday) to fill this position.
Please consider submitting your name as a candidate for Rep-at-Large by filling out the form below, putting it in
an envelope, and dropping it in the collection basket or mailing it to the Rectory Office, Attn: Marilyn. Deadline
for submitting your name is Thursday, May 21, 2015.
Thank you and may God bless you as you consider answering this call!

When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there
whom he loved, he said to his mother, “Woman,
behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple,
“Behold, your mother.” And, from that hour, the
disciple took her into his home. (John 19:26-27)
Behold your mother...
Children do not choose to whom they are born, or, for that
matter, to whom they are given in adoption or foster care.
Every day, mothers in our community nurture their families
as best they can. Some struggle to provide basic essentials for
their children: housing, clothing, food and a consistent, secure
environment.
And, like Mary at the cross, they are frequently surprised by
new, unforeseen circumstances, which they often embrace with
courage and conviction. Like another mouth to feed. And,
sometimes, it is the mothers themselves who need care.
Thanks to your generosity, the St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP)
is always able to assist those women who call the church office
for help. On behalf of all the families we serve, thank you for
your support, and Happy Mother’s Day! May God continue to
bless you and your families!

A Prayer for Mothers
All loving God,
we give you thanks and praise for mothers, young and old.
We pray for young mothers,
who give life and count toes and tend to our every need;
May they be blessed with patience and tenderness
to care for their families and themselves with great joy.
We pray for our own mothers
who have nurtured and cared for us;
May they continue to guide in strong and gentle ways.
We remember mothers who are separated
from their children;
May they feel the loving embrace of
our God who wipes every tear away.
We pray for women who are not mothers
but still love and shape us
with motherly care and compassion.
We remember mothers, grandmothers
and great-grandmothers who are no longer with us
but who live forever in our memory
and nourish us with their love.
Amen.

“Today, those who fill the role of mother are honored. Today, those who
can hug their mothers and say ‘I love you’ are blessed. Today, those who
can remember a touch, a fragrance, an embrace are warmed by these
memories. Today, all of these can say, ‘Thanks, Mom – for life!’ ”

Christian Worship
At the end of Holy Week, the Archdiocese of Detroit welcomed
more than 900 new Catholics into our local Church. Each of
them participated in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
(RCIA) to prepare for full communion with the Catholic Church.
The Christian Worship Office, which is part of the archdiocesan
Department of Parish Life and Services, uses CSA gifts to
develop certification programs for RCIA ministers and formation
for RCIA teams, as well as for RCIA consultation to parishes.
On May 16, the office is offering RCIA Topics 3-B (The
Catechumenate) and 7 (Presiding at the Minor Rites of the
RCIA) at Sacred Heart Major Seminary.
For information about CSA-funded ministries, programs, and
services, please go to www.AOD.org.
