Outdoor pool opens this month!
Spring is getting into full bloom and temperatures are on the rise. Summer vacation for the kids
is just around the corner and hot days are quickly approaching! There are many great things
planned for this summer at the Berea Recreation Department!
Later this month, on Memorial Day Weekend, the ever popular Berea Outdoor Pool will open to
the public. We have activities and things to do for people of all ages. Maybe your child is new
to swimming or maybe it’s time for them to take the next step in our huge summer Learn to
Swim program that kicks off in June. Soon we will be launching our newly named Titan Sharks
Swim Team into competition! Do you know someone who has a birthday coming up this summer? If so, we offer party packages for both the Recreation Center and the outdoor pool! Maybe you would simply
like to spend your days at our outdoor pool with friends and family. If so, program registrations, memberships and party rental reservations are all for sale right now at the Berea Recreation Center.

Berea Slow Pitch Softball
The Berea Recreation Center is offering a slow pitch softball program for girls ages 11- 15 and 15 - 18. Girls will
play in the Southwest Suburban Softball League.
(Graduating seniors age 19 also eligible). League schedule is not yet available, but season typically begins in
June and ends in late July. Practices begin in mid/late
May. Games played evenings and weekends. You can
register in person anytime at the Berea Recreation Center.

Pink Ladies Baton Corps
The Pink Ladies Baton Corps of Berea, Ohio teaches baton twirling
classes at the recreational and competitive levels to girls
ages 4 and up. We perform at special events like parades, festivals, fundraisers, and half-time shows. Our
twirlers come from cities all across Northeast Ohio including: North Olmsted, Avon Lake, Parma, Lakewood,
Strongsville, Brunswick, Columbia Station, and Berea.

The Tri City United Soccer Club is in

Become a certified lifeguard through the American Red

Learn-to-Swim Water Safety Aide

The Berea Rec Center is proud to sponsor Pony Camp.
We have partnered with Pony Tales Farms, located at
13360 Cowley Road in Columbia Station to present this
fun, new activity. Your child will learn to communicate
with horses, care for them, feed, saddle, bridle and ride.

Safety Town
In Partnership with the Berea Police and Fire Departments,
Safety Town offers a variety of interactive activities and field
trips plus the use of bikes, traffic signals and classroom activities to teach children safety measures. The children will focus
on safety skills that can be used on a daily basis. They will
practice walking to school and riding the bus and will learn
how to react safely in an emergency. They also will work on
learning their phone number and home address. Safety Town is
for children entering kindergarten.

New! Learn to Kayak
Berea Recreation Department is excited to announce our
partnership with LoCo ‘Yak Shak to teach those interested in learning about the sport of Kayaking. LoCo
‘Yak Shak will be teaching classes on Sundays this
summer at the Berea Outdoor Pool before heading out
onto Coe Lake for guided tours.
The LoCo 'Yak Shak offers kayak rentals, group classes, private lessons, local guided tours, and overnight
adventures with ACA Certified Coastal Kayak Instructors Stephanee & Robb Koscho.

The Open Water Scuba Diver course is an entry-level
certification course designed to give you the necessary
skills to safely conduct open water dives. Upon successful completion of Academic and Confined Water skills,

Enjoy a magical afternoon with Singing Hands, Dennis
and Dee Rundle. This husband and wife team will perform uplifting, positive, fun songs to pre-recorded music
using sign language. The audience does not need to know
sign language. They will be able to hear the words and
music to their favorite songs.

Boxed Lunch and Movies
Once you sign up for the Boxed Lunch & Movie, you will need to pay
and give your lunch order one week in advance. You may drop your

Box lunches are from Café Ah Roma. The sandwich
choices are: ham, turkey, veggie, chicken salad, or tuna

Policies for Cancellation of Bus Trips:
Last Revised: 2/26/09
If you have already paid for a bus trip and decide to cancel your reservation, you must
do so at least one week prior to the scheduled bus trip in order to receive a credit.
You will not be reimbursed for the trip, but will receive a credit that can be applied
toward the next bus trip. This credit is valid for only one year from the date of the
cancellation. If the next bus trip you attend costs more than what you previously paid,
you will be responsible for the remainder of the cost. However, if the trip costs less
than what you previously paid, you will NOT be reimbursed the difference.
If you have any questions regarding how the credit works or to cancel your reservation, please call the Division of Housing & Community Services.

Computer Access
Take advantage of the computers available to you at any
time in the Active Senior Network Room. Check your email, play games, surf the Internet, etc. A printer is available for your convenience.
Other Amenities
The Active Senior Network room is equipped with a large
television, couches, computers, tables and a kitchen for
your use. The Active Senior Network room maintains the
same hours as the Recreation Center. Feel free to utilize
these amenities at your own leisure. We also encourage
you to attend the many activities and events that are offered such as Wii Bowling, luncheons, movies, corn hole,
cards and much more!

Wii Bowling Absentee Policy
*To ensure that the scores are posted in a timely fashion, the Active Senior Network
staff is asking that if a player is not able to attend a week of bowling that he/she make
it up. Making up a bowling session can be done by pre-bowling or by coming in the
following week. Please call Michelle at 234-6080 to schedule a time. You can make up
your bowling during Rec. Center hours. If you are unable to pre-bowl or come in the
following week, a blind score of 140 per game will be added to the team total.

Berea is one of the few communities that continues to
offer grass cutting, leaf raking and snow removal.
These programs are available to income-eligible senior
residents who meet all qualifications:





Be a senior citizen (60 years or older) or disabled
Own and occupy the home in Berea
Make $28,000 a year or less
Not reside with an able-bodied individual
Must provide proof of income for every individual
in the home
If you meet all qualifications and did not receive an application, please call Byll Stallworth at (440) 826-4891.
