Leadership Change Press Release

P R E S S R E L E A S E Ciudad de Angeles, Inc. April 1, 2015 The Board of Directors of Ciudad de Angeles, Inc. announces several leadership changes.  JAMES MACLASKEY NAMED INTERIM PRESIDENT  GARY GARDNER STEPPING DOWN AS PRESIDENT  JOHN CHERRY CONTINUES TO SERVE AS BOARD CHAIR James Maclaskey will assume the position of Interim President of Ciudad de Ángeles, Inc. on April 1, 2015. Mr. Maclaskey has volunteered and supported Ciudad de Ángeles for over ten years in a variety of capacities, including as a member of the Board of Directors, as Mission Team Coordinator, and as a child sponsor. Mr. Maclaskey will lead Ciudad de Ángeles during a transition period as the Board of Directors considers the best organizational structure and staffing requirements for the future. Gary Gardner will step away from his current leadership responsibilities as President and as Founding Member of the Board. Mr. Gardner has served the organization since its inception in 2002. Mr. Gardner will immediately turn his focus to supporting the transition effort until his departure later this year. John Cherry assumed the position of Chair of the Board of Directors in September 2014, replacing James McCreary. Mr. Cherry brings nonprofit leadership experience from his years of service work with the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Cherry has previously volunteered as a mission team coordinator for Ciudad de Ángeles and is a child sponsor. Mr. Cherry is a member of the Campus Church of Christ in Norcross, GA. The Eastside Church of Christ in Colorado Springs, Colorado, has become an anchor congregation for Ciudad de Ángeles. Mike Nicolls will be the representative to the Board of Directors from this congregation. In addition, the other new members elected to the Board include: Hilda Wilkins representing the East Cobb anchor congregation; and Randy Bostic who joins as a Resource Director and worships at the Harpeth Hills congregation in Brentwood, TN. James McCreary, Susie Winnett, Paul Evans, David Fowler, and Gary Gardner left the Board for a variety of reasons, primarily due to attaining their term limits of service. Brian Coffin continues in his current role of American Director, responsible for the day‐to‐day operations in Mexico. Mr. Cherry stated, “The founders of Ciudad de Ángeles showed wisdom and best practices to include term limits in their Bylaws. Those rules resulted in several members completing their terms of service at the end of 2014. This is a significant loss of experience and institutional knowledge for the orphanage, but also allows for a renewing of the Board that brings new energy and ideas.” The incumbent members provide great continuity, having combined experience of over 30 years of service to the orphanage. Mr. Gardner stated, “Organizational change is always a challenge, but Ciudad de Ángeles has a solid base of staff, volunteers and donors to lead the organization forward. The potential, skills, and energy that the organization will receive from this new Board alignment are important in the development of the home. This change provides an opportunity to affirm strategies, policies and organizational structure while maintaining the core mission of Ciudad de Ángeles.” The Board of Directors has established several teams to review and consider the current strategy and policies. The Board will also take a fresh look at several ongoing and major projects of the organization including the launch of the second location in Cuernavaca, mission‐centered programming for transitional living for the older children, and the proper rate of growth of the orphanage as it relates to the appropriate level of service that can be provided.
