Discover. Know. Transform. MOE Interschool Competition Win a share of $30,000 for your school! 50 Years on, Remembering Our Everyday Pioneer Heroes - a Digital Story Competition Do you know someone who helped lay the foundation for Singapore’s nation building? Civica is pleased to announce the MOE interschool competition Remembering Our Everyday Pioneer Heroes – A Digital Story. This competition is about remembering Singapore’s unsung heroes – everyday people – who exemplified the spirit and action in building our nation. They led ordinary lives - among friends and neighbours, some in the kampungs, others in estates, harbouring similar hopes and dreams for a better tomorrow and sharing the same struggles, joys and tears. These were ordinary men and women who had the will to achieve against all odds. They came from all beginnings: humble beginnings, shopkeepers, tradespeople, business communities, government workers and from the education sector. While their backgrounds varied, they were united by one singular mission to serve their fellow countrymen and create a better life and a better home for generations to come. Many of these everyday heroes went unnoticed, their contributions unknown to us. But some of them could be known to you. Through oral, pictorial or video archives, this is your opportunity to uncover and reveal personal stories of those who made a difference and helped make Singapore what it is today. Take a journey back through time by reliving the memories of your grandparents, parents, neighbours, teachers and their friends. Seek out newspaper archives and historical narratives to identify those who had simply given for the good of others. Then, using audio, pictorial, video, graphical and/or text, design a multimedia tribute suitable for posting on the web. Civica will award $30,000 across the three school levels. The winning entry for Primary and Secondary schools will receive a total prize of $7000 ($5500 for the school and $1500 divided amongst the winning team members). The second and third prizes (school only) will be $3000 and $1500 respectively. Junior Colleges will have one top prize of $7000 ($5500 for the College and $1500 divided amongst the winning team members). The school’s/JC’s prize money is to be utilised within the school/JC library for the purchase of resources, technology, materials or services. All school entries will be loaded into the individual school/JC Spydus library system for sharing within the school/JC. All prize-winning entries will be loaded into all MOE school/JC Spydus library systems for sharing across all schools and JCs. Objective The objective of this competition is to highlight and promote the creativity of Singapore students in recognising and remembering our everyday heroes. Students will have the opportunity to further build 21st century skills and multiple literacies such as critical thinking, collaboration and information skills as they collaborate to conceive, design and create a multimedia content piece with a focus on Singapore’s history in the last 50 years.
