Connecting
Community Links Program Guide is
published by Frog Media Inc and
is made possible by the generous
donation of Airdrie Pharmasave
The Connecting Program and Service Guide is our way of providing a “link” for you
or for someone you know through:
- Information about your community,
- Education on early child development and support for positive, effective
parenting strategies,
- Toy and Resource Library,
- Approved and accredited Family Day Home Program,
- Support for family violence and bullying,
- Short term, long term and walk-in individual and group counselling,
- Short term respite,
- Support for basic needs,
- Educational workshops,
- Referrals to other supports in your community,
- Volunteer opportunities.
Last year, our dedicated and qualified 45 staff members and 255 volunteers, provided
a “link” to over 13,000 community members. We are also proud to be one of 50
Parent Link Centres within the Province of Alberta.
We continue to be very grateful for the ongoing support from Airdrie Pharmasave
for sponsoring our Annual 2015 Connecting Program and Service Guide.
In addition, the support that we receive from community investors and funders
to offer our programming and community supports is invaluable and we are truly
appreciative. A special thank you to Frog Media for making this guide possible.

BOARD CoMMunitY
MEMBERS
LinKs
Faith Brace, Chair
In my previous position as pastor at
the Lutheran Church in Airdrie, we
regularly collaborated with Community
Links. I was excited to become a Board
member of this valuable community
agency in 2008. I bring experience in
leadership, organizational processes,
public speaking, and community
service.
Glenda Neufeld, Director
As a Board member since 2009, I
volunteer because I want to ensure all
North Rocky View Area residents have
access to needed programs and services
that help create stronger people and a
stronger community. My background
in Nursing, Community Development
and Business Management helps guide
the agency.
Tom Pfaffinger, Vice Chair
I wanted to contribute to the
community and found the opportunity
to work with the Community Links
Board in 2009.
I have a strong
business background in operating
budgets and capital projects and like
to think of myself as able to see the
“big picture”.
Diane Hill, Secretary
I want to support the work that is
being done within Community Links
for residents of all ages, which is
why I became a Board member in
2012. I bring an ability to balance
and understand the needs of staff,
children and families with the realities
of budgets and program expectations.
Byron Bradley, Director
I joined the Community Links Board in
2011 because I wanted to be a part
of an agency that mattered in my
community. I have over 10 years work
experience within communities that
are affected by poverty, homelessness,
mental health issues and other barriers
to sustainable independent living.
Janna Schrottner, Treasurer
As a Board member since 2012, I
currently serve as Treasurer. I became
involved with the Board when I realized
how much Community Links does for
the residents of Airdrie and Area. As
a Chartered Accountant, I bring my
financial expertise to the Board.
Maria Eligon, Director
I joined the Board of Community Links
in 2012 to give back to the community.
In all areas of my career experience, I
have developed a versatile, transferrable
professional skill set with carefully
nurtured business values.

Approved,

child care service
for children
0 – 12 years
Family Child Care
Family Child Care (FCC) strives to enhance the social, physical, intellectual
and emotional development of your child.
For a family looking for childcare, our FCC Homes offer carefully selected Child
Care Providers who work under the guidance of a qualified FCC Consultant.
Every Provider has had a Criminal Record Check and an Intervention Check
completed. Homes are screened for any physical safety concerns.
Every effort is made to match the needs of the child and families to the
FCC homes.
In the best interest of the child, three way communication is maintained
between the parents, the Providers and the Agency.
For those interested in being a Provider, all FCC Providers are contracted
according to the provincially approved standards and will receive support,
monitoring, training opportunities and access to resources. Becoming a
Provider of an accredited FCC Home enables you to be self-employed, earn an
income while staying at home, receive income tax deductions and benefits as
a self employed individual and allows access to funding grants. If you have a
positive attitude towards children and are interested in becoming a Child Care
Provider please contact us or come by to pick up an information package.

Toy and Resource Library
The Toy and Resource Library offers a wide selection of toys for
children up to five years of age. Parents, grandparents and caregivers
appreciate being able to borrow age-appropriate toys that will help
their children develop skills they will use throughout their lives. The
children enjoy the novelty of choosing toys that may be different from
the ones they have at home.
The Library includes activity centres, building blocks, puzzles, prop
boxes, games and toys that encourage gross motor activity. We also
have a selection of toys for children with special needs. In addition,
we offer a variety of resources (books and DVD’s) on topics such as
parenting, discipline, separation and divorce, bullying, self-esteem
and child development.
A one time Toy and Resource Library registration fee of $10
will be collected from each individual/family.
This fee will go directly towards maintaining and expanding our
inventory which will allow us to offer a greater selection of toys,
books and DVD’s. The fee may be waived for individuals or families
with limited resources.

Family Violence Services
program is a baby, who visits a classroom throughout
the school year. The students learn empathy by watching
parent(s) meet the needs of their baby. Classes are taught
by a certified instructor.
Community Links has provided support to those affected
by family violence in Airdrie and Area for the last ten years.
Individuals can also be supported through various programs
and activities including: individual and family crisis support
through the Family Violence Prevention Counsellor, intake,
assessment, parenting support, avenues to basic needs,
education, information and resources on a variety of topics
and appropriate referrals in a timely manner within the
agency or to community supports.
It is anticipated that Community Links will provide
comprehensive support to125 – 200 individuals affected by
family violence per year. Through educational activities and
programming, it is estimated that 400 - 500 children and
youth will be educated about the signs and effects of family
violence and what a healthy relationship looks like.
A collaborative community response between partners and
stakeholders is essential to raising awareness of how family
and intimate partner violence affects individuals, families
and communities as a whole. The Light the Night Event
hosted by the PEACE (Providing Education and Awareness
for a Caring Environment) Committee for November Family
Violence Prevention Month take place annually with the goal
in mind to continue to raise awareness in the community
about the impact of family violence. The date, time and
location for the event is to be announced.
Healthy Relationships Presentations
Presentations are offered to the schools in the North Rocky
View Region. The presentations are tailored to fit the
individual needs of the group and aim to educate students
on the different types of abuse, the link between bullying
and family violence, and how they can help someone who
might be in an unhealthy relationship.
Prevention of Bullying Services The Peace Coordinator
works part time at Community Links and part time at a
partner school within the community - Good Shepherd.
The Peace Coordinator’s main role consists of working one
on one or in groups with children and youth who might
be experiencing bullying or friendship issues. The support
can be provided for either the person being bullied or
the individuals who may be bullying others. The Peace
Coordinator also travels to different schools within the
community to present to students and/or parents on topics
such as bullying, cyber-bullying and healthy relationships.
Co-facilitation of groups such as Girls Circle in local schools
is also part of the role of the Peace Coordinator. On the topic
of bullying, the Peace Coordinator is not only a resource for
the schools, but to the entire community.
Roots of Empathy is designed to teach children about
positive parenting, human development, emotional literacy
