Learn to Knit
By appointment, one-on-one instruction
Want to learn to knit? We teach you the basics: cast
on, knit, purl, bind-off, increases, decreases and
more! We ask that classes be completed within a
four-week period. Knitting is fun and not as hard as
you think with our private lessons.
Class fee: $60/3 – 1.5 hour sessions
Drop in Project Class
Fridays: 10 am – noon
Drop in any Friday morning to work on the project
of your choice! A teacher will be there to guide you,
answer questions, give help and teach new things.
Class fee: $12/2 hours
Social Events
We welcome you to knit or crochet at YfY during
business hours. For social knitting we have set
aside special times for you to get together with
others. When working on your projects in the shop
we require that you use yarn purchased from
Yarning for You.
* Knitter’s Anonymous Weds, 6 – 8 pm
You are welcome every 1st and 2nd Wednesday of
the month. This is your night to drop everything
and come relax, laugh and knit with us. The shop is
open for customers during Knitters Anonymous
evenings.
* Knit-Along Thursdays Thurs, 11 am – 1 pm
Drop in and join a KAL. We will host different KALs
throughout each month. To find the current week’s
KAL just go to our website home page.
* Thursdays Evening Knitting Thurs, 5 – 8pm
Come, join in the fun every Thursday evening!
* Divas Book Club Wed, 6 – 8 pm
Join us every 4th Wednesday of the month for a
discussion and some knitting…what more could a

Rigid Heddle Weaving
January 18, Saturday, 9 am – 1 pm
The basics of Rigid Heddle Weaving, using the
“Cricket Rigid Heddle Loom,” make it easy to get
introduced to weaving. A simple scarf can be
completed in just a few evenings! In this class you
will learn to warp the loom, along with basic
weaving techniques. This is a beginner class: no
weaving experience is necessary. Any one can learn
this skill. The portable, light-weight rigid heddle
loom is a wonderful tool to begin weaving lovely
textiles featuring color and texture. It allows you to
weave items such as scarves, table runners,
placemats, purses, bags and more. These looms
make great stash busters for fiber enthusiasts!
Students need a rigid heddle loom for class; if you
have a loom, bring it to class. Looms are available
to rent at $25 for the week; the rental fee may be
applied to a loom purchase. A week’s rent lets you
experiment with weaving. We only take four
students per class, so sign up early. Waiting lists are
available for every session. But be for-warned: it’s

Plain Old Socks
Jan 18, 25 & Feb 1, Saturdays, 1:30 – 3 pm
Come join the sock knitting hordes! First time socks
knitters must apply. Using a traditional pattern knit in the round on double pointed needles and
using a traditional heel and gusset shaping - this
class will focus on basic sock construction.

Slouchy Cable Hat
Jan 25 & Feb 1, Saturdays, 10 am – noon
A very easy to knit hat with big draping cables. This
is a fantastic project for beginners or advanced
beginner knitters. Learn how to knit in the round,
knit cables, make increases and decreases, and knit
on double pointed needles. You can make the hat
slouchy, or not-so-slouchy and in one of two sizes.

Pick Up Your Stitches
February 8, Saturday 10 – noon
Do you cringe when the pattern says pick up
stitches? Learn the basics, along with a few tricks
and techniques to make picking-up-stitches as easy
as it sounds. Homework is required prior to class.

Mike’s Colorwork Mittens
Feb 8 & 15, Saturdays, 1 – 3:30 pm
Keep your hands toasty and add another skill to
your knitting résumé! Knit with three or four colors
of sport weight yarn. The patterned cuff and plain
hand of this mitten provide the ideal starting place
to learn stranded color work.

Buttonholes !
Feb 15, Saturday, 10 – noon
In this class you’ll make several different types of
buttonholes and learn which buttonhole to use
based on your garment and your stitch pattern.
We’ll provide step-by-step instructions that you will
use time and again. Homework is required prior to

Fingerless Mitt
Feb 22 & Mar 1, Saturdays 10 – noon
A fingerless mitt pattern showcases a traveling
twisted-stitch wave flanked by reverse stockinette
and seed stitch. We will learn how to “cable without
a cable needle” method for quicker results and
learn how to read a chart! Great first knitted mitt
project. Instructor: Debra Paradis

Knit Fix
February 22, Saturday, 2 – 4 pm
Do you know how to rip? Frog? Fix mistakes?
Tink? Fix dropped stitches? Take this class and
you will be able to identify mistakes and fix them
without aggravation and frustration. Learn the
anatomy of stitches how to fix them and much
more! Homework is required prior to class.

Portland Gusset Socks
March 1 & 8, Saturdays, 12:30 – 3 pm
Twisted stitches lend an architectural feel to the
undulating rib pattern of these socks and the very
non-standard construction makes them fascinating
to knit. This class is the perfect cure for anyone who
hasn't marveled at the magic of a heel turn in a
while! Socks are knit using either magic loop or two
circular needles. Homework is required prior to
class. Instructor: Amy Cordero

Cloche
March 8 & 15, Saturday, 10 – noon
A sweet and slightly slouchy cloche adorned with an
oversized but oh-so-proper bow. Tres beau! This
hat is knit with clever techniques for you to learn.
We will learn the provisional cast-on, knit & purl
stitches, the kitchener stitch, increasing,
decreasing, and picking up stitches.

Techniques You Should Know
March 8, Saturday, 3 – 5 pm
Let’s make your knitting projects easier. Learn how
to cast on loosely and work a provisional cast-on.
Practice the proper ways to work a variety of
increases and decreases. At the end of this class
you’ll also be able to choose and work a loose bind
off, add yarn, change colors, and weave in those
pesky ends. This workshop welcomes all skill levels.
Homework is required prior to class.

Getting Gauge
March 15 1pm-3pm
Everything you ever wanted to know about gauge
will be answered in this class. Understanding and
“getting gauge” is the most important step for your
knitting projects to be successful. It will also
ensure the proper fit of any knitted project.
Understanding gauge will allow you learn how to
design your own garments, to substitute alternative
yarns, or change the style. Come to this class and
you can say “I get gauge”. Homework is required
prior to class. Instructor: Debra Paradis

Cat Hat
March 22 & 29, Saturday, 10 – noon
A hat that will inspire all cat lovers! Little felines
circle the hat displaying their white whiskers which
contrast well with the background. This is a great,
fun project to learn stranded knitting. This hat is
worked in the round and may be topped with a
pompom. A folded hem is attached to the main
piece by knitting with no need of a provisional caston. You will knit the tails while working the hem
and you will embroider whiskers at the end. Easier
then it sounds! The hat can be made in a range of
sizes from 3/ months to adult/large.

Seaming
March 29, Saturday, 1 – 4 pm
Hooray! Here is a workshop that will teach you how
to seam your knitted pieces together using the
proper techniques. Additionally you will learn how
to pick up for front bands and neck bands. A great
workshop to build upon your skill set. Homework is
required prior to class. Class size is limited in order
to give individual attention, so sign up early!

Specialty Workshop

This class is scheduled when you want! Schedule
one hour of personal 1-on-1 instruction. Need help
with a project? Want to learn something new? This
personalized class is just for you and only you.
Class fee: $25/1 hour
Students must register and pay in advance for
all classes.
Please arrive early, prepared, and ready to knit.
Materials are purchased separately and that
project supplies, specifically yarn be purchased
at Yarning for You.
Please note that missed classes cannot be made
up.
Class fees are fully refundable up to one week
prior to the beginning of class. After that time,
fees will be non-refundable and nontransferable.
Cancellation: Yarning for You may cancel a
class in the event registration is fewer than 3
students. In the event that Yarning for You
cancels a class, registrants will receive a full
refund.
Yarn Winding
As of January 1, 2014 you can wind your YfY
yarn in the shops new winding station. We will
be happy to show you all the tips and tricks
needed to wind yarn. If you prefer to have us
wind your yarn we will gladly have it ready for
pick up in 3 days. As a courtesy service to our
customers, Yarning for You offers yarn winding
on regularly priced yarn free of charge. Yarning
for You does not wind yarn purchased from
other shops or yarn that is sold in ball form or
sale yarn.
