Please sign-in upon arrival and sign-out upon
exiting the building . Member sign-in is located in
the foyer and guest sign-in is located in the office.
Bus Transportation
Bus transportation is available to members on a
first call, first reserved basis. Please call the office
to make or to cancel a reservation. To help defray
the cost of transportation, a suggested donation
of $1 each way is greatly appreciated.
Shopping is available four afternoons each week.
Shoppers leave from the Center at 1:00 p.m. for
an hour at the store and are then taken home.

Alzheimer’s Disease is a progressive deterioration of
neurons in the brain, and is considered to be a
significant public health problem. Can Alzheimer’s
Disease be inherited? Learn how genetic tools and
research may lead to better diagnostic and treatment
strategies to slow or alter the course of the disease.

No time for a siesta, it’s time to fiesta! Amigos, join us
as we add a little South of the border flavor to the Center
and celebrate Cinco de Mayo, an important date in
Mexican history. This date marks the victory of the
Mexican Army over the French at the Battle of Puebla
and has come to represent a symbol of Mexican unity
and patriotism. Lyle Stang will entertain us with a
mixture of Latin music, as well as our old favorites.
Margaritas and light snacks will be served.

Buffalo History Museum

Take a docent led tour of the History Museum’s 3000
square foot feature exhibit showcasing the Pan–
American Exposition. See the combined features of
the Museums 100+year old renovated streetcar barn
and trolley plus the “Little Building” . Explore the
expositions funny and serious sides with artifacts and
hands– on displays. The bus departs at 2:15 pm.

The Erie County Poorhouse Project”

The Erie County Poorhouse, Hospital, and Insane
Asylum were located on the ground of what is now the
University at Buffalo’s Main Street Campus. In 2012,
building improvements brought about the need for an
excavation of skeletal remains on the site of the
Poorhouse. Learn what the team of archeologists and
anthropologists from UB uncovered, and what skeletal
analysis can tell us about the lives of people at the
Poorhouse. Instructor: Rosanne Higgins, Adjunct Prof.,
Dept. of Anthropology, SUNY Buffalo.

During World War II, mathematician Alan Turing
tries to crack the enigma code with help from fellow
mathematicians. Famously leading a motley group of
scholars, linguists, chess champions and intelligence
officers, he was credited with cracking the so-called
unbreakable codes of Germany's
World War II Enigma machine.

We all know of Benjamin Franklin and his great
contributions to our country and to science. What do we
know of his beloved younger sister Jane, with whom he
carried out a lifelong correspondence until the year of his
death at age 84? Jane Franklin’s life and letters to her
famous brother provide a revealing look at life as it was
lived by everyday Americans during the Revolutionary
War. It also sheds much light on her brother, one of the
most famous Americans. The program will be based on
“Book of Ages: The Life and Opinions of Jane Franklin”
by esteemed historian Jill Lepore.

the growing use of torture around the world. What are
the definitions of torture and enhanced interrogation?
Have recent US government policies normalized the use
of torture as part of national security expectations?

In 1803, France sold 530 million acres of territory in
North America to the US for $15 million, doubling the
size of the Union. The Louisiana Purchase ended
French colonial ambitions in the New World without
firing a shot. Learn about this decisive moment in US
history and the political maneuvering of Jefferson,
Madison, Napoleon, and others as they tried to advance
their nations’ interests and their personal ambitions
through diplomacy, threats, lies, bribery, and treachery.

Cell Phone Collection
Do you have an old cell phone that you no longer use?
Please recycle your cell phone to benefit the Center.
A collection box is located in the Center foyer.
Soldier Care Packages
The CSC is a drop off site for donations for our
military troops. Many thanks to the Clarence
American Legion Auxiliary 838 for assembling
the packages and getting them to the soldiers.

Please save your Dash’s receipts and drop them off
in the box located in the front lobby. For every $100
worth of cash register receipts collected, Dash’s
Market will donate $2.50 to the Center.
Suggested Items:
Travel size soaps, shampoos, conditioners, lotions &
creams, disposable razors, hand sanitizer, lip balm,
sun block, small combs, small pkgs. of tissues, pens,
pencils, note pads, small hand held games, playing
cards, puzzle books, gum, hard candy, black socks.
Monetary donations are also needed and appreciated.
As a 501 (c)(3) charitable not-for-profit
organization, Clarence Senior Citizens, Inc. is able to accept tax deductible
contributions. .Honor a special person by making a memorial donation.
Your donation will help to make a difference in the lives of seniors by supporting
a wide range of programs provided at the Clarence Senior Center.
