Issue 36
Ed Nordland passed away in October 2014. Prior to his passing he
had decided to simplify his life and
committed to having an auction for
his classic cars and automobile
memorabilia.
Ed was a life-long resident and
had been in the insurance and real
estate business since taking over his
father, Louis’, agency in 1965.
Ed had always been a collector
and especially loved all things from Ed Nordland’s first “old Ford” to be auctioned May 29th.
the Ford Motor Company. He built a collection of over 60 classic Ford vehicles
and hundreds of Ford and auto signs, promotional items, parts, and tools.
Ed’s classic car auction is scheduled for May 29th-31st and will take place
on the Page County Fairgrounds in Clarinda, beginning at 9:00 AM each day.
The first “old Ford” Ed purchased was a 1917 Model T Roadster. Ed drove this
car in numerous Clarinda Homecoming and New Market 4th of July
parades. It was not the most valuable car Ed owned, but it held a very
special place in his heart as it was
his first car in his collection.
Ed’s children, Holly Stansbury
and Andy Nordland, have decided
to donate the proceeds of this car
to the Clarinda Foundation and the
Cardinal Fund. It is their belief that
whatever funds are generated from
this car’s sale should stay in the community. For more information on the auction go to: richpennauctions.com.
CLARINDA SINGS 2014 “THE BEST YET”
All reviews of the 2014 Clarinda Sings Concert are in and indicate it was a
huge success. In fact, several attendees remarked that this year’s concert
was the best yet. 2014
marked the 20th year of the
event that began as a fund
raiser to support the work of
the Clarinda Foundation.
This year also marked the
20th year the choir was under the direction of Linda
Kruger and Sherrill Lisle. In
addition to the two directors,
there were five individuals
that were recognized for
their participation as choir members in each of the concerts; members recognized were Elaine Armstrong, Alan Bellairs, Darlene Eglehoff, Bill Richardson, and Ron Richardson.

DIRECTOR’S CORNER
There are many ways for philanthropic individuals to make a charitable gift.
One option that you should not overlook is giving through life insurance.
The most significant advantage of giving through a life insurance policy is
that it makes possible a larger gift at death than would ever have been possible during life.
Other advantages include:
 Gifts passed outside the probate process are not subject to contest.
 Gifts are confidential; not a matter of public record.
 Little or no expense to change beneficiary clause or transfer ownership of
policy.
 Payment is prompt, in cash, guaranteed, and any attributable estate
settlement costs are negligible.

career in education. This one-time scholarship was established in memory of Don
by his family. Don served as the Clarinda High School Guidance Counselor for 27
years. Don also served 7 years in education prior to his move to Clarinda. Don’s family had an extensive history serving in the education field that continues to this day.
The Norm Mier Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Norm by his
family. This is a recurring $1,000 scholarship offered to a graduating senior of the
Clarinda High School who plans to pursue a degree in higher education. Norm graduated from the CHS in 1970 and loved his alma mater and emphasized to others how
important education was. Norm farmed for over 40 years in the Clarinda area and
also drove a school bus delivering children to and from school and transporting students to numerous athletic events.
