to registration numbers. Grade level refers to the grade a student will be entering in the 2015-2016
school year.
Program Title:
Clayton’s POWER Program

Program Description:
This program will help students master 1-2 two reading and/or writing
skills based on the Common Core Standards by participating in a projectbased, thematic reading/writing program. The teacher will identify 1-2
reading/writing weaknesses to focus on throughout the program. Data will
be collected and reviewed at the start of the program, and students will be
assessed on their progress at the end. Students will read a novel and
participate in activities based around this novel. An awards ceremony will
be held for the students and parents, and parents are welcome to come in
and see the work their child produced during this program.

English and Mathematics SAT Prep Summer Course

Program Description:
The overall goal of this program is to prepare students to take the SAT.
Students will focus on sample questions, take practice tests, and work
on the math, reading, and writing skills required on the test in a group,
individual, and whole class format.

Introduction to Robotics

Program Description:
This program will introduce students to the art and science of building and
controlling a simple robot. Students will assemble a basic robot from the
pieces contained in the LEGO Mindstorms NXT robotics kit. Once built,
students will be taught how to create basic programs to control the robots.
Inter-group challenge matches will be conducted to assess how well the
robot is built and how well the robot is programmed.

The Math of Tiling

Program Description:
The application of mathematics happens every day in the real world.
Contractors commonly use math formulas and theories to solve problems
and get the job done while still generating a profit.

Program Description:
Students will learn and perform music from contemporary artists and pop
music that can be used in a pep band venue such as high school football
games.

Program Description:
Have you ever wondered how investigators really analyze a crime
scene? In this course you will have the chance to work with a real crime
scene, solving an actual criminal case. This course will give students a
hands-on approach to using forensics and examining DNA, blood
samples, fiber samples, and hand-writing analysis. You will also get the
opportunity to work with Clayton’s water and determine the amount of
pollution in it.

Program Description:
This program runs similarly to the High School and Middle School Drama
Club seasons. The students prepare a production for performance at the
conclusion of the program (one show). The students are responsible for an
aspect of the production, under the guidance of a staff member. Students
will be participating not only as actors and actresses but also as interns for
every aspect of a theatrical production. In addition to providing the
students with a different viewpoint of the theatrical process, this program
prepares any interested High School students to serve as Student Directors
for the Middle School Drama Club during the 2015-2016 school year. The
production overall will be on a smaller scale than the annual musical in the
spring.
