Newton’s Spring Fling Seminar 2012
If you love knitting, crocheting, or weaving you won’t want to miss this!
Join us at our 25TH Annual Spring Fling Seminar, held at the Shrine El Bekal, 1320 S. Sanderson
Ave, Anaheim, CA 92806. We feature many world class instructors, who offer classes in Hand Knitting,
Machine Knitting, Hand Crochet, Circular Sock Knitting, and Weaving. Several classes offer hands-on
instruction and demonstrations for beginners, or those who need a refresher lesson. After reviewing all
three days of classes, you will find that many of the classes offered are just what you need as a progressive knitter, crocheter, or weaver. Daily Reservations are required to attend classes and demonstrations.
These classes are assigned on a first-come, first served basis. Register TODAY to avoid disappointment.
At this seminar, we will be featuring DesignaKnit 8. Morgan Hicks, a beta-tester for this new version, will
be introducing DAK 8 and covering all of the upgrade features. Morgan will be available each morning
before classes to assist you in loading and updating your DAK 8 program, or addressing any up and running issues you might have. DesignaKnit 8 now features a hand-knit version. New to this seminar, is
Patty Nance who taught at Vogue Knitting Live in Los Angeles. Check out her unique approach to sock
knitting and creative knit edge classes. Those interested in sock knitting machines “Crankers” can see Lu
Kelce in our retail area.
While attending our Spring Fling Seminar, allow yourself extra time to view our seminar vendor market.
We will be offering discounts up to 60% off retail. Our World Famous Parking Lot Sale offers prices as low
as $.25 per ounce. There is no charge for shopping or parking. The entire venue is wheelchair and
walker accessible!
Come to our Spring Fling Seminar Fashion Show on Saturday, April 28, at 8:30am. This is a great opportunity to view the demonstrators’ samples, and gain a better understanding of their demonstrations. We
invite you to share your knitted items. We hope that you will model your creations, and if needed,
models will be provided.

Detailed DAK8 – Stitch Designer; HANDS-ON
Creating knitting stitch
patterns in DAK 8 is almost as addictive as machine knitting itself! Explore the
steps to create and save your work, and then alter it to personalize it to a given
project or garment shape. This is a hands-on class and emphasis will be given

Dimensional Crochet Class “AKA”: Shakes, Shingles, Fish Scales, Fringes, &
other fascinating crocheted fabrics. Another way of explaining this technique is
to tell you this is double-faced crochet, derived from the crocheted Astrakhan
stitch. Usually this stitch is created with single crochet and is quite dense and
heavy. In this class we’ll open up and make it beautiful for practical use, including the creation of fabrics for garments, handbags, household articles, and trims.
Many different stitch patterns are presented in class including samples made in
rounds and worked dimensionally.
PRE-REQUISITE: You must already know how to crochet, including chain, single,
double, shell, etc.
SUPPLY LIST: Several same weight but different yarns, solid or multicolored.
Crochet hooks appropriate to the yarn chosen. Note-taking materials.
PATTERN AVAILABLE: Illustrated pattern folio, “Shakes, Shingles, Fish Scales,
Fringes, and Other Fascinating Crocheted Fabrics” by Morgan Hicks.

Steeks for Crochet The knit version of this technique was developed by the
Shetland archipelago for fairisle sweaters; which is knitting in the round, then
creating the armhole, and adding the sleeves at the end. Morgan has expanded
on this technique using it in crochet. He will share with you the creative process
for achieving this in crochet. We’ll look at the interesting trade offs with choosing
to steek your crochet: fabric appearance, chart interpretations, garment design
and construction, finishing, and more.

yarns, solid or multicolored. Crochet hooks appropriate to the yarn chosen. Notetaking materials.

Best Fitting Necklines The neckline of a knit sweater is achieved with shaping.
Linda will show you how to shape the best fitting necklines. Some necks, such as
a boat neck or square neck, don't require much shaping, while a v-neck and
round neck require decreases to achieve the desired look. The depth of the neckline is up to the knitter. Properly shaped necklines also make picking up stitches
easier for collars or additions to the neckline.

The ribber is perhaps the most versatile accessory for the knitting machine. The
ribber is a separate needle bed that attaches to the knitting machine and has its

simultaneously. Class covers any machine with ribber.
