Impacted Fetal Head Release Device The C-Snorkel is an innovative, disposable device used for the release of an impacted fetal head from the pelvis during cesarean section. It is designed to alleviate the vacuum that is created between the fetal head and maternal tissue when the surgeon attempts to lift the head from deep within the pelvis after a failed vaginal delivery. The C-Snorkel consists of a molded, sterile, medical-grade polymer tube and a flat, anatomically curved polymer tip containing multiple ventilation ports. The device tip is inserted into the vagina posteriorly into the hollow of the sacrum, between the vaginal wall and the fetal head. The curved tube is placed between the patient’s legs, facilitating the free flow of air through the tube and ventilation ports, and releasing the vacuum of an impacted fetal head. The release of the vacuum on the fetal head lessens the force required to elevate the head out of the pelvis, enabling a less traumatic delivery and reducing the potential for maternal or fetal injury. The C-Snorkel also eliminates the need for an assistant to elevate the head from below the surgical drapes. C-Snorkel - Impacted Fetal Head Release Device Medical-Grade Polymer Tube Product Number / Order Information: CS-8000 C-Snorkel - Impacted Fetal Head Release Device 5/box Tip Neck (“Insert to Here” Mark) - device tip should be advanced until the junction point of the tip and tube rests just inside the introitus at the level of the hymenal remnant. DO NOT INSERT THE DEVICE BEYOND THIS POINT. Anatomically-Curved Polymer Tip Multiple Ventilation Ports Easier Elevation. Reduced Risk of Trauma. C-Snorkel Feature Clinical Value Soft, malleable tip The C-Snorkel’s soft, malleable tip makes insertion easier and more comfortable for mother and baby, and reduces the risk of injury. Natural, pelvic curve of tip The natural, pelvic curve of the C-Snorkel tip facilitates ease of insertion and enables proper placement of the tip posteriorly into the hollow of the sacrum, between the fetal head and maternal tissue. Multiple ventilation ports The ventilation ports in the C-Snorkel tip facilitate the free flow of air and release of the vacuum/suction created by the impacted fetal head. This multiple-port tip design prevents potential occlusion by the fetal head and/or maternal tissue. Curved polymer tube C-Snorkel’s curved polymer tube extends up between the mother’s legs, enabling the free flow of air up and down the device. Properly-sized tip The length of the C-Snorkel tip is 11 cm, the approximate length necessary to bypass the fetal head and reach the hollow of the sacrum, and the essential distance to help release the vacuum/suction of an impacted fetal head. Simple Usage Instructions* Insert C-Snorkel posteriorly into the hollow of the sacrum between the cervix and the fetal head. Advance device tip until the neck (the proximal junction between the device head and the tube) rests just inside the introitus at the level of the hymenal remnant. DO NOT INSERT THE DEVICE BEYOND THIS POINT. Ensure that the proximal end of the tube curves upward and is not occluded by the patient’s legs. The free flow of air releases the vacuum of the impacted fetal head, allowing the head to be more easily and safely elevated from deep within the maternal pelvis. * Follow complete Instructions for Use when using this device.
