BASIC SWEATER WITH HOOD

Barbie Knitted Pattern
October, 2013
Materials Needed
#2 double-pointed knitting needles
2-3 ply fingering yarn, baby yarn, or angora
Stitch-Place Markers
Hood:
Cast on 28 stitches. Knit in garter stitch (knit all rows)
for 24 rows.
Note: When working in garter stitch a rule to remember
is the right side (RS) is the side that has the cast on strand at the beginning of the row.
The wrong side (WS) does not have the hanging
strand at the start of the row.
Next Row: K7, K3 tog, K6, K3 tog, K7. 22 stitches.
Place Markers: K5,PM, K3, PM, K6, PM, K3, PM. K5. 22 stitches.
Knit across, increasing BEFORE and AFTER each marker – 8 stitches increased.
Next Row: (WS) knit, slipping markers – no increase.
Continue to knit and increase until stitches are divided, as follows: 11 right front, M, 15 sleeve, M, 18
back, M, 15 sleeve, M, 11 left front. 70 stitches. Knit 1 row, slipping markers.
Sleeves:
K11, remove marker, K15, remove marker. TURN and knit 15 stitches on these same sleeve stitches.
NOTE: Leave all other stitches in place on both needles. They will be worked later.
Knit only the 15 sleeve stitches, for 12 rows. Bind off in knit. Cut 8” strand to sew sleeve seam.
Hold knitting with RS facing you and completed sleeve on the right. Attach yarn at underarm and
knit across the 18 stitches for the body of the sweater. Remove marker, K 15 sleeve stitches, remove
marker.
TURN and knit the 15 sleeve stitches. Continue to knit each row for 12 rows. Bind off in knit. Leave an
8” strand to sew sleeve seam. Hold garment with RS facing you and the completed second sleeve on
the right. Attach yarn at underarm and knit across remaining 11 stitches. NOTE: All stitches are now on
one needle. 40 stitches. (WS) knit across row. At underarm areas K2 tog. 38 stitches.
Body of Sweater:
Knit each row for 24 rows (on right side of sweater, count down 12 “ridges” from underarm area).
Bind off in knit. Leave 10” strand to sew front seam. Turn sweater wrong side out and sew sleeve
seams. Sew front seam from bottom up to slightly more than ½ inch from neckline – do not overlap
fronts when sewing. Fold top of hood together and sew seam on wrong side.

Finishing:
Cut two strands of yarn 12” long. Thread on darning needle and
weave in and out of sweater –
around the neckline from right front around to left front. Leave a 5”
strand hanging on both sides
of sweater. Tie 3-4 knots near end of each strand – to form one big
knot. Use these strands to pull
hood together, gathering at neck – tie under doll’s chin.

Materials Needed
Main Color - MC – dark yarn
Coordinating Color – light yarn
#1 and #2 knitting needles
Place-Stitch Markers
Instructions
With MC and #1 knitting needles, cast on 26 stitches. Rib in K1, P1 for 6 rows.
Knit across and place markers to increase for hipline, as follows: K5, PM, K4, PM, K8, PM, K4, PM, K5.
26 stitches. Knit across, increasing BEFORE first marker, AFTER second marker, BEFORE third
marker, and AFTER fourth marker. 4 stitches increased. Increase in this manner until there are 42 stitches
on needle, as follows: 9, M, 4, M, 16, M. 4, M, 9. 42 stitches. Purl, slipping markers.
Knit and increase in first and last stitches for next 3 knit rows. Purl back on all rows. End with 48 stitches.
Divide for pant legs:
Working with MC - Knit 24 stitches. TURN and purl back on these 24 stitches. Work in stockinette
stitch for 4 rows. (K 1 row, P1 row). Change to #2 knitting needles to begin pattern:
Drop MC – do not cut yarn. Attach CC.
Row 1: With CC (light yarn), slip 2 (MC), K2 CC, slip 2 (MC), K2 CC across row, ending K2.
Row 2: With CC, K2, slip 2, K2, slip 2 across, ending slip 2. (Knit on light stitches as for Row 1)
Row 3: With MC, knit across all stitches.
Row 4: With MC, wrong side, KNIT across.
Row 5: With CC, K2, slip 2, K2, slip 2 across, ending slip 2.
Row 6: With CC, Slip 2, K2 across, ending K2.
Row 7: With MC, knit across all stitches.
Row 8: With MC, wrong side, KNIT across.
Continue working pattern rows 1-8 six times (approx. 48 rows). Cut CC. With MC, knit 2 rows. Bind off
in knit. Cut MC strand 12” long to sew leg seam.

Hold garment with right side facing you and completed leg on the right side of the needle, attach MC at
end of right leg. Knit across remaining 24 stitches, from inside leg to outside. Purl back. Work in
stockinette stitch for 4 rows. Change to #2 needles to begin pattern. Drop MC – do not cut yarn. Attach
CC.
Begin pattern with Row 1 and complete second leg. Cut CC.
Cut MC strand 12” long to sew leg seam and back seam to
waistline. Weave ends. Turn right side out.
NOTE: Additional photos are included for two sheath dresses
with the same "honeycomb" pattern on the skirts.
