COURSE OVERVIEW AND OBJECTIVES
Continuous advances in clinical science require pediatric and family primary care
practitioners to obtain comprehensive, up-to-date information on a wide range of
medical issues encountered in daily practice in the care of children and adolescents.
Based on identified clinical challenges of physician learners and recommendations
from expert faculty, Practical Pediatrics 2015 will focus on current evaluation and
clinical management strategies in selected clinical areas including: non-surgical
scar and keloid treatment, management and sequelae of concussion, hip injuries,
neurological conditions, failure to thrive, premature puberty and testicular disease.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Ť Develop a strategy to utilize silicone gel as a mechanism of scar reduction
Ť Identify the signs and symptoms of post concussive syndrome and develop
strategies for management
Ť Evaluate sports injuries of the teenage hip through physical examination and
formulate a treatment plan
Ť Assess common pediatric movement disorders
Ť Differentiate common from worrisome pediatric headaches and develop a strategy
to treat appropriately
Ť Develop a plan of care based on new epilepsy classifications and treatment updates
Ť Assess the nutritional considerations in the child with failure to thrive and
determine when further evaluation and management is necessary
Ť Perform a clinical exam and work up for early puberty and strategize a
treatment plan
Ť Evaluate and manage unique testicular disorders of the adolescent male
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Pediatricians, family practice physicians, nurses and interested allied health
professionals who provide care for infants, children and adolescents.
