who are we?
where to send your stockings
We’re Knit, a local yarn shop based in Midleton. Over the past several years we’ve
worked with a number of charities - Irish Premature Babies, Feilecain, The Simon
Community, The Chernobyl’s Children’s Trust and Global Missions Ireland – knitting items from baby blankets to hats and scarves, not forgetting our most recent
campaign where we knit 118 blankets for elderly people in Armenia.
You have plenty of time to knit loads of mini stockings! We will be accepting your
knitted and crocheted creations up until Saturday 1st November. You can simply drop
them into Knit in Midleton - our opening hours are Thurs-Sat from 10:30 to 17:00.
Or you could pop them in the post to: Knit, 4a Main Street, Midleton, Co. Cork. Do
include a little note with your name and email address.
For this campaign with East Cork Rapid Response we needed to come up with
an idea that would help them to raise valuable funds. And so the “knit a stocking
campaign” was born!
We will then begin selling the mini stockings for EUR2 each in the shops of East
Cork until Christmas Eve, 24th December. All money raised will go directly to the East
Cork Rapid Response team. Our wonderful sponsors will cover the cost of design,
printing, marketing and distribution.
These miniature stockings are easy and quick to knit, don’t use a lot of yarn (approx.
11 metres) and most importantly are a cute little knitted or crocheted item perfect for
hanging on your Christmas tree (shh, let’s pretend I didn’t just say Christmas!).
who are we doing this for?
We came up with this campaign to support the work of the East Cork Rapid
Response team who support the Ambulance Service, Fire and Rescue Service, the
Coast Guard and RNLI delivering pre-hospital emergency medical care to the victims
of sudden illness such as heart attacks. They also provide immediate medical care
to victims of trauma such as those arising from road traffic incidents, industrial and
farming accidents.
If you are a retailer (or know a retailer) in the East Cork area and would like to help
us out, we would be hugely grateful for some space on your counter for our little
boxes of stockings!
If you have any questions
about the campaign you can
call us on
085-157 8969.
Since January 2013, East Cork Rapid Response has been involved in over 200
emergencies in the East Cork area. These have included: 80 trauma case and 121
medical cases including 21 cardiac arrests. The service is now responding to almost
two calls every three days.
The cost of providing this valuable service is EUR3,000 each month. We hope our
“Knit Happens” campaign will go some way to raising money to fund this service.

Throughout the campaign we will be giving out prizes for the best stockings so be
creative with your stockings! Our favourite stocking of each week will win one of
our ‘knit happens’ badges and will be entered into a draw to win EUR100 worth of
knitting goodies (the draw will take place in December).
How about topping your stocking off with a different coloured garter stitch section
at the top. Knit a striped stocking featuring your favourite colours. Or knit a stocking
featuring the colours from your local GAA team! Knitters are a creative bunch so
we’re sure you’ll come up with some amazing variations during the campaign!
We will be posting up new ideas and new patterns throughout the year on our
Facebook Page to give you some inspiration.
We’d love to see how you’re getting on so you can also post photos of your stockings onto our Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/KnitHappensStockingCampaign for everyone to admire!
Happy Knitting xxx
