The 8th grade at CMS has been abuzz with the Bard these last few weeks. Starting with our annual Shakespeare residency program, students in Mrs. Pieplow
and Mrs. McNees’s English classes formed acting companies, selected scenes from
Romeo and Juliet, edited scripts, paraphrased lines, wrote character analyses, and
worked with the teachings artists from the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company to
from their scenes from page to stage. Students performed their scenes for
appreciative audiences of classmates and parents.
After returning from spring break, students attended a performance of
Romeo and Juliet at the new Chesapeake Shakespeare Company Theater in
Baltimore. They marveled at the theater’s transformation from a local historic
bank to a modern version Shakespeare’s Globe theater, and they enjoyed seeing a
professional production of their favorite play.
On Thursday, a group of 80 students traveled to the James Rouse Theater
to participate in the Howard County Shakespeare Festival where middle schools
throughout the county gather to perform Shakespeare. Our CMS thespians took
to the stage to showcase their best work, entertaining the audience with comic
and tragic scenes. All in all, our 8th grade students have had an outstanding
Shakespearience this year.
Congratulations to students Logan Kallini, Emma Schroeder, Michelle
Han, Matt Illei, Robbie Graham, Eric Valdesuso, Johnathon DiPietro, Matt
Hernandez, Kevin Hickey, Audrey Benton, Nathan Kim, Tabitha You, Marisa
Patel, Sarah Burnett, Dani Pazulski, Olivia Harold, Brook Gettier, Andrew
Orlosky, Darcy Luntz, Kim Munro, Lauren Mendes, Morgan Taylor, Hope
Rovensek, Jane Park, Suleman Khan, Janet Weng, Chantel Desmarais, Amogh
Thakkar, Ingrid Chang, Neha Benarji, Sein Yoo, Halley Maddox, Erin Duncan,
Sam Johnson, Diana Oh, Sarah Echols, Olivia Wood, Josh Burton, Sophie
Dubin, and Nico Sloane; their artwork was selected for exhibition in the 43rd
Annual Spring Student.
Exhibition at The Mall in Columbia. The show opened on
