For those who have completed the Introduction to the Folk Harp
course or who have some prior experience on the harp. The focus
will be on learning one simple piece that either shares the melody
between two hands or alternates hands for melody and harmony.
Music handouts will be given at the end of each session for home
practise and the real work of learning! Emphasis will be on a patient,
gradual learning of new skills, enjoying the company of others and
sharing music and laughs. It would be ideal if you have your own
instrument you could bring with you for the workshop. However
some lap harps will be available to borrow for the workshop time
only. Note: These borrowed harps will not be available for home
rental as there is an Intro course starting the following week that the
instruments are needed for.

SEVEN SPIRITUAL LAWS OF SUCCESS
GRIEF & LOSS EDUCATION
WORKSHOP
Experiencing loss and the process of grief that
follows is one thing that we all go through in life,
and yet there are not many places to have an open

the purpose of grief? How do different types of
losses affect my grief? What is a healthy range of
grief responses to loss? How can I help myself or
others I care for? You will gain insight into these
questions, dispel popular grief myths, and explore
your own understandings of the grief process.

CULTIVATING MINDFULNESS TO
COPE WITH STRESS & PAIN
Mindful awareness means paying attention to the
experiences of the present moment: with
openness, curiosity, and a willingness to be with
things as they are. It invites us to stop, breathe,
observe, and connect with our inner experience.
Mindfulness can be learned by anyone, regardless
of age or background. These four classes lay the
foundation through brief talks, sensory awareness
practice, simple yoga movements (done seated,
standing, or lying down), attentive discussions,
and suggested at-home practice.

HEART WARMING - DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know?..that heart disease is the #1 killer of women?..that heart disease kills more women than men each year?..that most women
consider breast cancer to be the deadly disease they fear most, even though heart disease kills more women than ALL types of cancers
combined every year?..that 84% of women have one or more heart disease risk factors (and almost half have three or more!) yet only 1/3
believe they are actually at risk?..that up to 80% of all heart disease is preventable? Carolyn Thomas is a heart attack survivor and 2008

GENEALOGY
MONTEREY
The great contribution of Hobbes to English political ideas is widely acknowledged.
This course will focus on his masterpiece, Leviathan, but also look more broadly at his
philosophy. We will seek to place him in his 17th-century context and illustrate his
work by examining his biography, and by setting his thought in its contemporary
intellectual context. Participants will need a copy of Hobbes’ Leviathan and can find
inexpensive editions—the Penguin or Oxford World’s Classics editions are
recommended—at Bolen Books, Munro’s, or the UVic Bookstore.
