Summer Reading Program Begins June 2 Our tails are waggin’ in anticipation of the start of summer reading. The program starts June 2 and continues through the dog days of August. Kids, begin counting your minutes and register for the great classes outlined in the library newsletter section for kids. Grownups, become a reading leader of your pack, and start tracking your titles to participate in the Adult Summer Reading Program. Read or listen to a book/eBook/magazine; watch one of the Library’s “special display” DVDs. The entire family earns fabulous prizes together this summer by Paws(ing) to read! Celebrate with the family this Mexican holiday featuring dancing, crafts, and food. Dance the Salsa and wear your bright colors. Peggy Garvin from Garvin Gardens will bring fresh flowers, decorations, and her expertise to help you make a Mothers’ Day Centerpiece. Please bring garden pruners. Cost is $12 per person. Forests of Northern Illinois Knitting for Grown-Ups Thursday, May 8 at 7 pm Join us for an afternoon of fun with yarn. Whether you know how to knit or want to learn, come to this afternoon event. We will use yarn and either knitting needles, a loom, or just your arm to create a soft and cozy knitted fashion statement for your fall wardrobe. Thursday, May 15 at 2 pm Christopher Johnson, a nature writer and coauthor of Forest for the People: The Story of America’s Eastern National Forests, will give a dramatic presentation on local forests and the efforts to save and restore them. Container Gardening Great Chicago Fire Friday, May 23 at 7 pm Friday, June 20 at 7 pm Celebrate the upcoming planting season with Peggy Garvin of Garvin Gardens as she shows us how to create a beautiful container garden for your summer patio or porch. Animals for Awareness, an exotic animal education and rescue center, brings exotic animals to entertain and educate the public about how these animals live in the wild and the responsibilities of exotic pet ownership. Climbing stairs, playing with hula hoops, it’s all in a day’s work for the pack at Robin’s Dog Stars. Robin Bengtson, famed Chicago area dog trainer, brings her Dog Stars to do amazing tricks for the crowd. Do you want to be a dog trainer? She will share some of her favorite dog training tricks you can try at home with your very own pet. PAWS TO READ!
