ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
“A Grand Night for Singing” is made possible by the efforts of
many. The event depends upon the generosity of hundreds of
businesses and benefactors of the Choir School, as well as volunteers who contribute countless hours. We would like to thank
the following generous individuals who have made this event a
success:
The Gala Team and the BACS Parents Guild
whose time, talents, and generosity have made this event possible;
The BACS Advisory Board, the BACS faculty and staff,
and the Men's Schola and priests of St. Paul Parish
whose collective efforts on a daily basis make the Choir School
a unique spiritual, educational, and musical experience
for our boys;
Dan Flynn, our guest auctioneer
who has donated his time, talent, and humor for many years, both
entertaining us and bringing in the high bids;
Emery and Sonny To, 128 Coach
whose donation of limousine service enables the choirboys to ride
home in style while their parents stay and enjoy the event;
Mary and Larry Bannon
whose generous underwriting of our new auction software
will benefit this event for years to come;
Janet and Richard Fougere, J & R Graphics, Inc., Hanover
whose talent, professionalism, and superior service have made
the printed materials for the gala second to none.
We wish to thank all the businesses identified in this program as
sponsors and donors of auction items. This event would not be
possible without their generosity. Kindly consider frequenting
these businesses and mentioning to the managers or owners that
you stopped in because of their support of the Boston Boy Choir.
Finally, a special thanks to you, our guests tonight. Please “bid
high and bid often.”
It has been our pleasure to coordinate this event. We owe a lifetime of gratitude to all who have made the Choir School such an
extraordinary experience for our three sons and all of our family.
The Choir School has been one of our many blessings.

AUCTION GUIDELINES & RULES
2011 live auction guidelines
The Live Auction will begin at 8:40 p.m. The Auctioneer will announce each
item. The highest bidder acknowledged by the Auctioneer shall be the purchaser. At that time, the bidder will be asked to announce their bidding number.
Live Auction items cannot be claimed until the Finance Table opens. A paid receipt from the Finance Table is necessary in order to claim all items.
2011 silent auction guidelines
Browse and bid as much as you like. Each item has a bid sheet. To place a bid,
fill in your BIDDER NUMBER and the bid amount on the bid sheet. Your
bid must exceed the previous bid by at least the minimum increment listed on
the bid sheet in order to constitute a valid bid. A few items have minimum
opening bids.
The closing bid circled by an auction official constitutes the winning bid. In
the event of a dispute, a Gala Committee co-chair will be the final authority and
will determine the successful bidder.
All sales are final, and subject to the terms stipulated by the donor. No exchanges or refunds are permitted. Unless specified in the item description.
Everything will be sold “as is” to the highest bidder.
The winning bidder must make full payment on the night of the Auction. Payment may be by cash, check (payable to BACS), MasterCard or Visa. No item
may be removed until payment is received. All items must be removed the
night of the Gala.
The Gala Committee has endeavored to catalog and describe each item correctly. The descriptions of all items have been made in good faith, and every effort has been made to describe each accurately. Items are sold without warranty
or representation of any kind as to the correctness of description, authenticity,
condition, or quality of fitness for any purpose. The Gala Committee reserves
the right to make verbal corrections and provide additional information at the
time of the sale. Values listed are as stated by the donor or discerned from other
sources in good faith and not warranted by the donor, the Gala Committee or
BACS Parents Guild.
By purchasing an item, the buyer waives any claim for liability against the item
donor, the Gala Committee, the BACS Parents Guild, or the Boston Archdiocesan Choir School, none of whom are responsible for any personal injuries or
damages to property that might result from the use of the item.
Unless otherwise specified, all auction items and services must be used within
one year. If applicable, dates and times are to be arranged at the mutual convenience of the donor and the winning bidder. Contact with the donor should
be made within 30 days. Please deal personally with the donor. If necessary,
the Gala committee will put the buyer in touch with the donor.
The Gala Committee reserves the right to withdraw or amend any item at any
time before its actual sale, and reserves the right to reject a bid from any bidder.
The Gala Committee co-chairs will act as the final authority on any bidding dispute.
tax information
For tax purposes, please check with your own accountant. However, in most instances, goods or services purchased at the auction are not tax deductible. The
person who donates an item to the auction may be able to claim a tax deduction, and should also check with a tax advisor.
In the eyes of the IRS, an auction sets the fair market value for an item. One
exception is when a gift certificate is purchased for more than its value. In this
case, the amount in excess of its value may be tax deductible. For definitive information, please contact your tax advisor.

PERSONALIZED
PHOTOGRAPH COLLAGE
Mark Hornbuckle, our resident photographer and father of sixth grader,
Christopher Hornbuckle, with the cooperation of the BACS faculty and administration, has been busy taking one-of-a-kind photographs of the choirboys and
St. Paul Church.
This is your chance to obtain your own, unique five-picture collage personalized
with four photographs of your choice. Each collage begins with the photograph
of the Choir School stained glass window, a gift from the Class of 2008. You
pick the other four photographs: choose from photographs of the choirboys,
the church, the school, or your son.
The collages are priced at $200. You may use your bidder number. At a later
date, you will have the opportunity to leisurely view and choose the photographs from Mark’s vast collection for your keepsake collage.
ONLINE AUCTIONS
Occasionally, items or services are donated to the Choir School which would be
logistically impossible to sell at the Gala or could not achieve their true value at
an event like the Gala. (Examples would include a stamp collection or rare
coins, which require some expert knowledge, and at least two competing buyers,
or items which would attract buyers in more distant locations.)
The administration at St. Paul Church and the BACS Parents Guild will partner
with eBay, the online auction service, and MissionFish, a collaboration of the
Points of Light Institute, to place such items before a broader audience. This
arrangement provides an ongoing opportunity to support the boys, as hopefully,
more items of this type are donated to the school. Through these online auctions, the Choir School can achieve the highest monetary value at the lowest net
cost.
Announcements of these listings will be made on the BACS website, bostonboychoir.org, and through email channels and online networks.
Watch for the following items in the coming weeks:
Two tickets to the Red Sox vs. Chicago Cubs, Sunday Night, May 22
Donor: Judy Beatrice
Autographed, limited edition Arnold Palmer putter and autographed book.
Donor: Richard Connolly
Rare silver dollar collection.
Donor: Frank Snyder
Signed artwork.
Donor: Michael Lewis and Butch Hartman
If you have items you think would be appropriate for this venture, kindly contact the school office or Gala committee.

being one of those efforts. Tonight you can place a bid to help fund one of
these partial scholarships. Let's see how many partial scholarships we can fund

Harvard Catholic Chaplaincy by His Eminence, Sean Patrick Cardinal O’Malley, Archbishop of Boston.
Father Drea studied for the sacred priesthood at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton earning a Master of Divinity and was ordained
on May 22, 2004 at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston. At
the time of his ordination he was assigned as Parochial Vicar to St.
Ann’s Parish in the Wollaston section of Quincy. While there he
began a series of evangelization programs for young adults including
a highly successful Theology on Tap program.
Prior to ordination, Father Drea served as a transitional deacon
at St. Mary of the Nativity Parish in Scituate Harbor. Father Drea
was born and raised in Whitman, Massachusetts, and is the oldest
of four children.
His belief in and commitment to Catholic education was nurtured in his youth having graduated from St. Bridget’s School in
Abington and Cardinal Spellman High School in Brockton.
Father Drea is a loyal Boston College Eagle having earned his
Bachelor of Arts in 1988 and a Masters of Arts in Higher Education
Administration in 1994.
Following his undergraduate education he began a career in institutional advancement and alumni affairs at Cardinal Spellman
High School and St. Sebastian’s School in Needham.
In the fall of 2009, Father Drea was invested as a priest-knight
in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem at St.
Paul’s Cathedral in Worcester.
