SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
AND SELECTION CRITERIA
Selection will be made without regard for race, color, national origin, age or gender of the candidate.
No members of the families of the Scholarship Committee, or employees of the Foundation, shall be
eligible for any scholarship. Scholarship awards typically range from $500 - $1,500.
The Foundation will not be under obligation to distribute funds if no suitable candidates are found in a
given period of time. Applications must be received by April 10, 2015.
Application Instructions & Check List
Review the criteria for each scholarship. Some scholarships are only available to graduating seniors
from specific high schools or school districts. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
____ Check the scholarship for which you are applying.
____ Complete all sections of the application. Applications must be typed
____ If already accepted at a college or university, attach the acceptance letter.
____ Submit one letter of recommendation with your application.
____ If under age 18, make sure the application is signed by a parent or guardian.
____ Paper-clip the application pages (do not staple or fold your application)
____ Please do not submit any personal financial information, tax returns, etc.
____ Berrier, Chavez, Hall, Langdon-Monzeglio, Harrigan-Haase Scholarships:

____ Submit the Rich Scholarship applications to La Costa Canyon’s counseling office.
____ Applications must be received by April 10, 2015.
Scholarship Criteria
Bill Berrier Scholarship Fund
1. Scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors who plan to prepare for a professional career
in the field of education (teacher, counselor).
2. Students from San Dieguito Union High School District are eligible to apply.
3. Students must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average.
4. Financial need will be considered.
5. This scholarship is renewal for up to 3 years. Requires satisfactory completion of full time course
work, maintaining a minimum of 2.75 grade point average (4.0 scale) and continued pursuit of a
career in the field of education.

Joe W. Chavez Educational Fund
1. Scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors who will be studying medicine or
government.
2. Students from Oceanside, Carlsbad and San Dieguito High School Districts are eligible for
this scholarship.
3. Students must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average.
4. The scholarship is not need based. Awards will be made to students whose grades and personal
activities demonstrate an ability to achieve their goals.
Eric Hall Scholarship Fund
1. Students from San Dieguito and Carlsbad Union High School District are eligible for this
scholarship.
2. Scholarships will be awarded to students pursuing a degree in the areas of engineering,
architecture, construction management or those interested in urban & city planning.
3. Applicants will be judged on a combination of scholastic achievement and personal
merit. Students must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average. SAT test scores will not be
considered. Community work in the specified fields will be considered.
Eric Scott Langdon and Diana Monzeglio Memorial Scholarship Fund for Artists
1. Scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors who will be studying the arts, music or
dance at a college or university.
2. Students from San Dieguito Academy and Canyon Crest Academy only are eligible for this
scholarship.
3. Preference will be given to students who excel in fine arts, dance, or music.
4. Preference will be given to students who need financial support to attend college.
5. Students must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average.
Jackie Harrigan Haase Memorial Scholarship Fund
1. Scholarships will be awarded to students who are pursuing a career in nursing, the medical
field, counseling, psychology or special education.
2. Students from the San Dieguito Union High School District are eligible.
3. Students must be attending a two or four year college or university.
4. Students must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average.
5. Preference will be given to students who have been in special education.
Deanna Rich Trustee Award
1. Scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors from La Costa Canyon High School who
plan to prepare for a professional career in the field of education (teacher, counselor).
2. Students must have a minimum 2.9 grade point average.
3. Student’s community service and extracurricular activities will receive equal weighting
4. Selection of the recipient will be based on merit and financial need.
5. One $500 award will be made in 2015.
6. Submit the Rich Scholarship applications to La Costa Canyon’s counseling office.
Scholarship Awards
Scholarships announcements and awards will be made at your school’s award ceremony, at a separate
award ceremony or by mail.
