PART-TIME EDUCATION & COMMUNITY RELATIONS SPECIALIST
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Represents Cobb EMC in the community through involvement with school systems, local community leaders, civic and non-profit
organizations. Provide assistance to the Director of Education & Community Relations.
EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or a related field
Minimum three years experience in Public Relations, Community Relations, with experience in event planning and newsletter
development

This is a Part-­‐Time position – max of 30 hours per week. Must be flexible with work schedule and have availability to work evenings and weekends as necessary. SKILLS:
Excellent listening, oral and written communication skills
Ability to appropriately handle confidential information
Ability to work with a computer and proficiency with Photo Shop, Digital Editing, and Microsoft Office Suite
Demonstrated expertise in project and event management skills
Excellent presentation skills
Good interpersonal skills to develop effective working relationships with community organizations and employees
Detail oriented
Possess valid Georgia driver’s license
PREFERRED:
Previous utility industry experience in education and community relations

Effectively works with the Marketing and Public Relations departments regarding member functions, promotional items
EXTERNAL:
Interact with customers, the educational community, as well as the community at large within the Cobb EMC service area to
promote a positive corporate image
Effectively serve all customers to achieve increased customer and public support of the Corporation

Develop and present programs for energy conservation, safety and other requested topics
Provide selected written communications, as requested to include event invitations, memos, etc.
Recommend promotional and event material purchases
Prepare and send out mass mailings and information packets related to community programs and projects
Participate in appropriate civic, community, and professional organizations
Coordinate March of Dimes event and fundraising activities
Assist in planning coordinating and facilitating community events, service programs, projects, and meetings in the counties
we serve, attend community events representing the corporation
Update and Maintain an accurate database for Home Owners Associations, Local County and Elected Officials, Public
Safety, and Partners In Education Schools
Attend Chamber of Commerce and Civic Organization Meetings
Engage employees and external member volunteers to participate and support corporate programs for Education and
Community Service
Assist with the organization of Cobb EMC Annual Meeting
Assist with the organization and delivery of the Cobb EMC Homeowner’s Association Meetings for the counties we serve
Develop and market community campaigns, related materials and review annual strategies for multiple Cobb EMC
Scholarship programs to include Walter Harrison, Youth Tour, and Operation Round Up Scholarships
Develop, organize and attend Cobb EMC Programs to benefit Foster Care Children and Families, Senior Services and
Special Needs Children and their Families
Area School Programs and Projects •

Coordinate and participate in STEM Programming with schools in the counties we serve
Coordinate and attend Teacher development initiatives and training opportunities
Update materials, schedule and present Electric Avenue Safety presentations to the counties we serve
Coordinate and promote , internal and external events, for the Cobb EMC Wattson Mascot program
Develop, coordinate and launch a wide variety of school system and community contests and educational events
Communications •

Develop community campaigns and strategies, social media, website, develop strategies for existing program enhancements,
event production and marketing for new programs in community relations and member education
Design, layout, and color suggestions for materials and promotions for education and community events and contests
Write copy for safety, conservation and associated presentations, general communications and assist with copy development

• Responsible for the copy, design, layout, printing and distribution of the School Power Newsletter and the Task Force Newsletter, Internal and External Distributions Reporting and Notification •
