Could you be an occasional helper? If you’ve seen the Lent
Prayer Journey, you’ll know that there were a lot of sticky feet
that needed cutting out. Occasionally, Fun@4 or events like
the Prayer Journey require some cutting out or folding-up type
of preparation. Could you be on a list of people who would be
happy to help with such jobs? These may be tasks to be done
centrally or in your own home. If you think you could help,
please let Colin Resch know and he will keep your name on a
list.

From the Vicarage………..
Speed is addictive. We are always looking for ways to do
things quicker. Too many of us speed when we are driving.
We use microwave ovens or halogen cookers to speed up
our cooking. We want computers that go faster with the
quickest broadband speeds ever.
If we’re not careful, we may find that when we look back
on our life, everything looks like a blur. Now that we have
entered Lent, may I encourage you to
s–l–o–w d–o–w–n
Many people find it useful to give something up for Lent, to
make time for God; or to put some money aside for one
charity or another. These are excellent disciplines and, if this
is helpful for you, may I encourage you to continue doing so.
I would also like to suggest that you take time to pause in
the midst of your rushing to give some extra time for prayer
over and above what you would normally do. When at his
busiest, even Jesus took time out in a solitary place to pray.
If you’ve not yet had chance to experience the Lent Prayer
Journey in Christ Church, let me encourage you to find some
time to walk through the prayer stations. The Prayer
Journey will be available before and after Sunday worship;
and also before the evening Lent Course sessions. It is our
intention to leave the Prayer Journey in place until the start
of Holy Week. I hope you find it beneficial.
May you find God’s peace as you seek His presence

Choosing the next Bishop of Leicester – have your say
In order to hear the views of people in the Diocese, there will be four open
consultation meetings:




Friday 6th March – Samworth Centre, Melton Mowbray
Wednesday 11th March - All Saints Church, Thorpe Acre
Tuesday 17th March – St John’s Church Hinckley
Wednesday 18th March – Grand Hall, St Martins House, Leicester
In each case the meeting will run from 7.00 for 7.15 to 8.45. All are
welcome, whether or not you are currently involved in the life of the
Church.
At each meeting, members of the diocesan Vacancy in See Committee will
be present to listen to your views on questions such as:

What are the key challenges and opportunities for the Church in
Leicester and Leicestershire in the next 5-10 years?

What are the qualities we should be looking for in our next Bishop?
You will also be able to ask any questions you may have about how the
process of choosing the next Bishop works.
If you are unable to attend any of these meetings, or would like to submit
your views in writing, please email the Secretary of the Committee,
Jonathan Kerry [email protected] or write to Jonathan Kerry, St
Martins House, 7 Peacock Lane, Leicester LE1 1SY, to arrive no later than 27
March 2015.
All the feedback from the consultation meetings and correspondence will
be used to draw up a profile of the Diocese that will be used during the
appointment process.

This Lent, help us raise money for WaterAid and
turn your small change into a big change for
children in Africa and Asia.
Take a bottle of water home with our compliments. Enjoy
the water inside and then fill it with your loose change.
Perhaps put a coin in each time you flush the loo or turn on
a tap. Don’t forget that notes will fit in the bottle just as
well as pennies. Then return it to school or church before
Easter.

Fundraising
St. Peter’s -Monday 2 February
Our thanks to all those who attended the Candlemas Service at
St. Peter’s on Monday 2 February. Their support for the
‘Bring and Buy’ stall raised the sum of £60 for the Children’s
Society..

We had a full house for our annual Community Lunch for older
residents on 24th January. The catering was organised by Jo and her
team who run our MyCafe Community Cafe on weekday mornings, but
the stars were undoubtedly the young people from the youth cafe
“Come Dine With Me” initiative who not only waited on but also
helped with the clearing up afterwards. We combined the lunch with
the unveiling by Nicky Morgan MP of a plaque marking the continuing
support given to us by the Rotary Club of the Soar Valley. Also present
were the Mayor and Mayoress of Charnwood, Cllr and Mrs Paul Day of
Anstey, who, along with Nicky, joined the lunch party.
January activity continued with a very successful fundraising rummage
sale on 31st organised by members of the parents support group. This
event was the first of our rolling fundraising efforts for the year and
continued with the equally successful Smartie Tube Change campaign.
Youth activities for February sees both a Valentine’s meal run by the
Come Dine with Me Team and on Saturday 21 st, a Juggling and Circus
Skills Workshop.

We continue to look for more Volunteers both to support Youth Work
activity but also to support Jo with the Community Cafe, if you are
interested please pop in and talk to Graham our Youth Officer or Jo.
We are also trying to widen the Trustees group and add to our skill set
in supporting and managing the Cafe, if you are interested please talk
to me about it. In the meantime your continuing support and prayers
for the work of SYCafe, both for the core youth work in the afternoons
and evenings and for the community cafe on weekday mornings are
really appreciated by us all.

Christ Church Fund-raising event
Saturday 14 February
The Bric-a-brac and Brunch event held at Christ Church on
Saturday 14 February was well attended.
The catering team worked hard preparing and serving meals and
snacks which were much appreciated.
Sales of refreshments and bric-a-brac amounted to a total of
£285 for the Leprosy Mission.
Many thanks to everyone who helped make this possible.

Soar Valley Community Food Project
The Soar Valley Community Food Project is open at
Rothley Baptist Church on Mondays from 11.00am to 1.00pm
If you would like to make a donation, there is a box at the back of
Christ Church to receive gifts of canned meat and vegetables and
packets of dried food.

Mountsorrel Heritage Group
13 & 14 March 2015
‘Mountsorrel People’ Exhibition
The Mountsorrel Heritage Group will be holding an
exhibition in Mountsorrel Library on Friday 13 March and
Saturday 14 March 2015. The exhibition is entitled
‘Mountsorrel People’ and will trace the involvement in the
village’s development of a number of village people who
were part of not only its working life but also in its personal
and recreational life.
This will take the form of pen portraits of some of the
notable families of Mountsorrel’s past and present such as
the Martin, Harrington and Preston families and a number of
audio interviews with older residents of the village recalling
how the village was in days gone by. It is intended that the
audio interviews will be linked to specific places of work or
events that occurred in village life.
All of this will be backed up by a considerable photographic
gallery picturing the village at work and play.
Opening times for the exhibition will be:
Friday 13 March – 10am to 5pm;
Saturday 14 March - 10am to 6pm
