Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name (John 20:30, 31, NASU). Work Visitation Team Meeting: Because of the holiday, team 1 will pass out cards. Potter Children’s Home: The pantry item for the month of April is grape jelly. Primetimers/Sunshiners Meeting: Saturday, May 2 at 11 AM. Bible Bowl: The next Bible Bowl will be at Olive Branch on Monday, April 27. It will cover 2 Samuel 9-11. I enjoy the study of Christian apologetics, which is devoted to giving a defense of Christianity. Typical Christian apologetics studies cover stuff like the existence of God, creation, the nature of the Bible, and the Deity of Jesus. Bible Studies: We will be meeting each Thursday at 10 AM here at the building for Bible study. Also we will be having a Bible Study at Emeritus every Thursday at 2 PM. What can drive a non-believer to faith in Jesus Christ? Well, s/he must be convinced that Jesus is indeed who He says He is. A reading of the Gospels shows that His miracles prove His Deity. One may think, “But I have not seen a miracle, therefore I cannot believe.” N.C.I.S.: Noble Christians In Scripture: The N.C.I.S. reading list for this week is on the table in the foyer. There is also a sign up sheet on the board next to the office for those who would like to host a meeting. I heard Matthew Jones make a good point about using the Bible itself to bring someone to faith in Jesus Christ. This is the very design of the accounts of Jesus (John 20:30, 31; 21:24, 25). Not seeing the miracles firsthand will be no valid excuse for not coming to faith in Jesus, because the written testimony of those miracles is reliable. Apologetic discussions apart from Scripture are needed, and I believe Christians should study and be prepared to have such discussions. Having said that, let’s not dismiss the approach of asking an agnostic to read the Gospel of John and then discuss it. Youth Devo’s: Our plan for 2015 is to have youth devo’s throughout the year. We need our members to host these meetings. If you are willing to host, please see the sign up sheet on the youth board. Prom Alternative: This is scheduled for May 9th. We will be eating somewhere at 8 P.M. and taking pictures beforehand. More details are coming. We need commitments from 7-12 grade. Southaven Girls Day: Saturday, April 18. I recall hearing Blair Scott, in a debate with Kyle Butt, actually encouraging people to read the Bible, to say that actually reading it would bring them to unbelief. Kyle commented that is one thing on which they agree: Read the Bible. The more I read Scripture, the more I am amazed at its genuine ring of authenticity. It is too easy to get into heated arguments with unbelievers. We want to do our best to generate discussion, not heated arguments. Next time you converse with an unbeliever, how about recommending him/her to read a Gospel account and then talk about it? This gives a basis for discussion. It will also reveal if the unbeliever is actually willing to read it in its entirety, or just search for inconsistencies. If s/he is willing to read John in its entirety, you may have a great discussion on your hands. Don’t just think that his/her reading John will settle the matter. Certainly be prepared for an apologetics discussion. The point is though, don’t dismiss asking an unbeliever to read a Gospel account to establish a basis for discussion. Jesus’ miracles were written to provoke faith in people, so let’s ask unbelievers to read them. ~Trent Worship Leaders Song leader: Opening prayer: Scripture reading: Closing prayer: AM Worship Trent Childers Dennis Weber Chad Cox Charles Webster Wednesday Night: Song leader: Devotional leader: Closing prayer: Justin Wilson Renn Ferguson J.
