Educational Objectives
Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to:
• Examine differential diagnoses for youth presenting with possible depression in primary care;
Compare and contrast assessment tools for depression, including crisis assessment, for youth in
primary care; Discuss treatment algorithms for youth with depression in the primary care setting.
• Educate patients in your practice about the current science regarding the impacts of marijuana
on the developing brain in the setting of recent marijuana legislation in Colorado and
recognize the current trends of marijuana use among youth.
• Identify at risk youth in your practice and provide them with resources and/or referrals for
interventions.
• Discuss the ways in which the health care landscape is changing nationally and
within Colorado.
• Describe how payment reform, quality
measures and health information
technology will affect your practice.
• Outline challenges to assuring that
changes in payment and practice
improve the health of children.
• Participants will: Differentiate the
etiologies of constipation associated
with multiple age groups and utilize
evidence-based medicine to guide
clinical work up and treatment for acute
and chronic constipation; Identify and
diagnose the various etiologies of fussy
infants, distinguish infant colic from
digestive causes and counsel families
when treatment is or is not indicated.
• Distinguish IgE from non-IgE mediated
or combined food allergies and illustrate
how each type commonly presents to
the PCP’s office. Develop a practical
approach to the evaluation and
management of a child brought for a
suspected IgE-mediated food allergy
including important components of the
history, typical clinical presentations,
the role of skin testing and serum food
specific IgE testing, counseling points
and when to refer to an allergist.
Educate parents about prevention
strategies regarding the introduction of
solid foods.
• Initiate work up and management of
common adolescent gynecologic issues
including: evaluation and management
of dysmenorrhea and abnormal uterine
bleeding, and contraindications to
estrogen therapy.
OVerview
Overview
PEDIATRICS 2015 is full day conference
specifically designed to address clinical
issues of particular interest to general
pediatricians and other health care
professionals who care for children.
The format will include a brief didactic
presentation and will focus on integrating
interactive case-based discussions relevant
to a primary care practice. Each session
will include sufficient time for questions
and when appropriate will include a panel
to offer different perspectives. Technology
will be used to make the activities interactive
and will conclude with digital stories.
This year’s annual meeting will be
interactive, stimulating and pediatric
professionals will undoubtedly learn
something new to apply to their clinical
practice!
Cancellation Policy: COAAP member registrations cancelled
in writing by April 15, 2015 will be fully refunded. Nonmember registrations cancelled in writing by April 15, 2015
will be refunded minus a $25 processing fee. Any cancellations
made after April 15, 2015 are non-refundable.
