Common Thread Saratoga 508 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 518.583-2583 Wingspan Seaming Cost $15 Instructor: Cookie H. Tuesday May 20, 6-8 pm Cost $15 Instructor: Carol Puntel Monday August 27, 6-8 pm This asymmetric shawl is a wonderful way to learn to do short-rows. Knit in 8 right triangles, the end result is a dramatic sweeping garment that can be customized to your personal style based on the yarn you choose. The key difference between a garment looks “handmade” rather than “homemade is the finishing. After spending many hours with the knitting (and not a little bit of money on the yarn), it is important to know how to seam the pieces to finish things off well. Seaming is NOT difficult. As with anything else it takes a little practice and that is what we will do in this class. You will learn how to make vertical and horizontal seams in both garter and stockinette stitch. You will learn how to seam a vertical piece to a horizontal piece. We will also talk about some special seaming techniques. Level: Advanced Beginner Fix-It! Cost $22.50 Instructor: Carol Puntel Monday June 25, 6-9pm Some of you know about humility stitches, but there are times when humble means actually having to fix something. Do you want to learn how to pick up those pesky dropped stitches (even when you are working in pattern or they have dropped down more than one row)? Do you want to learn about “frogging” and “tinking” and getting your stitches back on the needle with them all going in the right direction? What happens if you finish the row and there are too many or too few stitches? Are your yarn overs going in the correct direction? How about your increases and decreases? Is there a hole in your garment (or socks) that you want to repair? What happens when you get all done and the sweater is too big or too small----is there a way to fix this other than giving it away? Come to this class and learn these and other “Fix-It” techniques to help reduce your stress. Level: Advanced Beginner HOMEWORK REQUIRED! Level: Intermediate/ Advanced Level: Advanced Beginner HOMEWORK REQUIRED! Common Thread Saratoga 508 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 518.583-2583 Faroese Shawl The “Waymore” Cost $30 Instructor: Carol Puntel 2 Mondays, June 4th & 18th, 6-8pm Cost $30 Instructor: Jill Ramos Tuesdays June 5th and 19th 6-8 pm Learn the secret to knitting this fun and versatile accessory. Use any yarn and any needle to make a truly fabulous, one-of-a-kind piece. Part shawl, part scarf, even make it with a hood – you will make this pattern again and again. Level: Advanced Beginner It's going to be cold this winter and we are going to need all the shawls and sweaters we can make to keep us warm with energy prices rising! This practical and pretty shawl takes its name from the “fairies” of the island off the coast of Scotland by the same name. It is a simple garter stitch pattern with interesting shaping to help it cling. The lace border and center gusset add a little interest. Make it in fingering weight yarn and it is a shoulder shawl. Increase the yarn weight and needle size and it can be larger. The best part is that you work from the bottom up so it goes more quickly as you get closer to the end. Level: Advanced Beginner HOMEWORK REQUIRED! We will have more single classes in the summer months.
