Guided Reading
Grades TK-2
Strong reading skills are vital to meeting the common core’s focus on
increased text complexity and rigorous reading. Guided Reading is an
essential tool in ensuring best first teaching of early reading behaviors and
creates a foundation of support for English Learners and struggling readers
as well. Along with providing young readers with timely differentiated
instruction, Guided Reading fosters strong metacognitive behavior as
students actively attend to their understanding of text.
Participants will learn how to:
•
Structure and deliver well-crafted guided reading lessons
•
Use a variety of assessment tools (running records, miscue
analysis, anecdotal noting etc.)
•
Build strong student self-monitoring behaviors
•
Match readers and texts
This course will build upon the guided reading overview presented in the
