DA cracks heroin, oxy rings

LOWELL -- The Middlesex district attorney's office announced a
string of drug trafficking arrests Friday, including three men allegedly
found with 14 kilos of heroin in Everett and seven people suspected of
distributing oxycodone pills they obtained from pharmacies
throughout the county, including Lowell, Billerica, and Tewksbury.
"We have been aggressively pursuing a multi-pronged approach to
combat the flow of opiates and their effect in Middlesex County,"
District Attorney Marian T. Ryan said in a statement.
Around 12 p.m. Thursday, state troopers arrested Felix ValerioRodriguez, 27; Jose Fernandez Del Rosario, 23; and Manuel
Gutierrez-Cunillera, 27 near the TGI Friday's restaurant on Mystic
View Road in Everett. Police seized two vehicles belonging to the men

and allegedly found a suitcase containing 18 bricks of heroin weighing 14 kilos, according to the
district attorney's office.
The men are scheduled to be arraigned in Malden District Court today on charges including
trafficking in more than 200 grams of heroin and conspiracy to violate drug laws.
Also on Thursday, courts unsealed indictments of seven people who allegedly obtained more than
3,000 oxycodone pills worth $90,000 from pharmacies between June and November 2012.
Howard Barter, 32, and Joseph Khabbaz, 33, both of Tewksbury, were scheduled to be arraigned
Friday on charges including conspiracy to distribute oxycodone, distribution of oxycodone, and
uttering a false prescription for a controlled substance.

A judge set bail at $3,000 and on the condition that Barter and Khabbaz wear GPS monitoring
bracelets.
Richard Bernier, 33, of Billerica was arraigned on charges of uttering a false prescription. He was
released on personal recognizance.
Steven Cabral, 23, and Kyle Carroll, 29, were arraigned on charges of conspiracy to distribute
oxycodone and uttering a false prescription. Their bail was set at $300 each.
Another suspect, Erin Murphy, 32, was not arraigned today because she is in custody in New
Hampshire on unrelated charges, and an arrest warrant was issued for the seventh suspect, Timothy
Pelletier, 30.
