STUDENT PRODUCED NEWS SHOW 4th CONSECUTIVE YEAR
The Suncoast Chapter of the Television Arts and Sciences includes Florida, parts of Georgia, Alabama
and Louisiana and Puerto Rico.
In what has been an unprecedented year for the Lee Schools TV student intern
program, the group was recently awarded 3 Suncoast Television Awards of
Excellence (Student Emmys) from the National Academy of Television Arts and
Sciences.
The School District’s student-produced news show, CURRENTLee, was recognized as
the best student-produced newscast for the 4th consecutive year. Student interns
also received awards for best feature-news package and for writing. The students
also received honorable mention for news story – light news, sports and directing.
The Suncoast Emmy is a regional award given by the National Academy of Arts and
Sciences (NATAS), the same group that has been awarding the famous Primetime
Emmys since 1949. The Suncoast region includes all of Florida, parts of Georgia,
Alabama, Louisiana, and Puerto Rico.
Over 8,000 entries are received for regional Emmys nationwide and less than 10% of
the entries are recognized.

The Florida Scholastic Press Association recently announced its All-Florida winners for
2015. Lee Schools TV is proud to announce that the students of its intern program
received 7 All-Florida awards (3 Best of Best) and 4 Excellent ratings in the
programs first year of participation. In addition, the School District’s student-produced
news show CURRENTLee received an All-Florida ranking from FSPA.
TWO STUDENT INTERNSTO REPRESENT FLORIDA AT NATIONAL CONVENTION

Lee Schools TV student interns Vince Marcucci and Paige Renyhart are 2 of 3
students selected to represent the State of Florida as hosts and on-camera reporters for
the 2015 National Scholastic Press Association Conference at the Walt Disney
World Dolphin, Orlando - November 12th-15th. Both students were recently featured
as Media Magic reporters and hosts for the 2015 FSPA convention at the Wyndham
Orlando Resort in April.
All of the students were recognized at an awards banquet during the 2015 FSPA
Convention April 23rd-25th, at the Wyndham Orlando Resort.
Founded in 1946, the Florida Scholastic Press Association represents more than
300 student publications, online media teams and broadcast programs throughout the
state. The primary aim of the organization is to educate, train and support scholastic
journalists and their advisers.
