Healthy Northland Communications and Evaluation Specialist Position Description – 3/27/15 JOB TITLE: Healthy Northland Communications and Evaluation Specialist SUPERVISOR: Director, Carlton-Cook-Lake-St. Louis County Community Health Board (CHB) WORK AREA: Northeast MN Counties: Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Lake, Koochiching and St. Louis JOB SUMMARY: SHIP and 1422 are designed to prevent obesity and tobacco use through the implementation of policy, system and environmental change interventions in the communities, schools, worksites and health care sector. This position is 40 hours per week and housed in Duluth, MN, serving the seven (Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis) counties in northeast Minnesota. Employment is dependent upon grant funding. General Responsibilities  Monitor and compile reporting forms (monthly time, activity and outcome reports, match tracking, media log, supporter tracking forms, assessment results, and action plans)  Keep informed of best practices related to SHIP and 1422 strategies  Implement and oversee an evaluation plan in conjunction with MDH guidelines  Develop and coordinate regional marketing and communication tools, tailoring approaches for priority populations  Serve as a media contact and support media activities (i.e. PR, blogs, website development, etc.)  Implement Communications Plan for SHIP and 1422 Grants  Manage www.healthynorthland.org, social media, and other communications outlets.  Assists with special projects such as writing, graphics, infographics, PowerPoint, editing scripts for educational/informational videos  Handle multiple projects/tasks at once while maintaining deadlines and priorities  Coordinate Mini Grant RFP process – developing tracking mechanisms  Provide on-going support and technical assistance with communications and evaluation work Education and Experience:  A Bachelor’s Degree in public relations, communications, public policy, evaluation or a related field is preferred, as well as experience working in the community and with grant processes (i.e. management, reporting, administration, etc.)  Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: o Strong and effective communication and problem solving skills; including personal, written and public speaking skills o Ability to network with local and regional community members and agencies, and state staff and organizations o Self-motivated, with an ability to work independently. Ability to lead and follow as appropriate. o Strong organizational skills o Evaluation skills, specifically the ability to collect data and prepare accurate reports o Effective team leader and coalition member – willing to be creative o Proficient in computer skills specifically word processing (i.e., Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel), and use of the internet, experience with Adobe Design Software preferred. o Commitment to strengthening public health prevention work in Minnesota Work Environment: Work is performed within a passionate and dedicated team. Work is performed within a designated office space and in communities across the region. This Position requires use of employee furnished vehicle, valid driver’s license, and auto insurance for regional and in-state travel. Works flexible hours including daytime, evenings and weekends as the work requires.
