SKATE DETROIT 2015
JULY 21-25, 2015
The thirty-fourth annual SKATE DETROIT competition will be held at the Detroit Skating Club, 888 Denison Court, Bloomfield
Hills, Michigan, beginning on Tuesday, July 21 for the lower level skaters and ending Saturday, July 25, 2015. Practice ice will
start on Tuesday afternoon, July 21. Skate Detroit is sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating and Skate Canada.
RULES - Skate Detroit - 2015 will be conducted in accordance with the rules set forth in the 2015-2016 U.S. Figure Skating
rules and any changes adopted at the May 2015 meeting of Governing Council. Please check for any technical updates on the
U.S. Figure Skating website. Intermediate, Novice, Junior and Senior Short Programs will be those announced by U.S. Figure
Skating for 2015-2016. At the referee’s discretion, group sizes may exceed the current maximums in rule 2466.
PLEASE NOTE: THE INTERNATIONAL JUDGING SYSTEM WILL BE USED FOR ALL JUVENILE THROUGH SENIOR
FREE SKATE AND PAIR EVENTS, JUVENILE SHORT PROGRAM WILL BE IJS. ALL PLANNED PROGRAM ELEMENTS
SHOULD BE SUBMITTED ONLINE NO LATER THAN JULY 15. There will be a $20 fee for failing to register online.
ELIGIBILITY - The competition is open to all eligible and re-instated persons who are U.S. Figure Skating or Skate Canada
members for the 2015-2016 season and shall be eligible to enter events based on U.S. Figure Skating and/or Skate Canada
test status as of May 30, 2015. Skaters representing a foreign association, except Canada, must include official permission
from their association or federation. High Beginner, No-Test, Pre-Preliminary, Preliminary, and Pre-Juvenile skaters will be
grouped by birth date. The competition committee reserves the right to place such skaters in the class it deems appropriate.
EVENTS AND AWARDS – High Beginner, No Test, Pre-Preliminary, Preliminary, Pre-Juvenile and Open Juvenile Free Skate
and all Pair events are final rounds. Juvenile Free Skate will have an initial round and final round. The Intermediate, Novice,
Junior and Senior combined events will consist of both short and long programs. If numbers warrant, long program will be
skated for final rounds. Medals will be awarded for first, second and third places in initial and final rounds.
ENTRIES AND FEES - Due to overwhelming response the last few years we must limit the competition to the first 600 entries.
Closing date is May 30, 2015. Register online at www.dscclub.com; follow the link for Skate Detroit. Only Visa and
Master Card accepted. (Late entries will be accepted at the discretion of the competition chair and referee only and must be
accompanied by a $30 late fee). No refunds after closing date unless event is canceled for lack of participation. There must
be two competitors to hold an event. No refunds will be given for any other reason, including medical. Fees are as
follows:

COACHES: All U.S. coaches will be required to have credentials based on the current USFS criteria. Your temporary USFS
coaches’ registration card will be sufficient. It is recommended that you register with PSA. Please make sure your students
enter your name and email address on the application so we can verify you are a current member of USFS, otherwise you will
be denied teaching rights at the competition. Canadian coaches should bring their current Skate Canada card.

PRACTICE ICE - Practice ice will be available beginning Tuesday, July 21, 2015. Please submit online with your application
and the appropriate fees. Pre-paid practice ice will be 30-minute sessions at a fee of $15.00 per session. Practice ice will be
available for purchase online once the competition schedule has been established and pre-purchased ice has been assigned
for $16 per session. Competitors will receive an email at that time. PRACTICE ICE WILL NOT BE SOLD OVER THE PHONE
OR BY FAX. THERE WILL BE NO SWITCHING OR REFUNDS OF PRACTICE ICE SESSIONS. No music will be played on
practice sessions. Practice ice times could be delayed because of competition; however, same schedule would then be
followed. Final round practice ice will be sold after the results from the initial rounds are posted. Additional practice ice
can also be purchased as a walk-up during the competition for $17 per session.
REGISTRATION - The official registration desk will be open 1 hour before practice ice on Tuesday and 1 hour prior to the first
event until the close of competition each day. COMPETITORS MUST CHECK IN AT THE REGISTRATION DESK AT LEAST
ONE HOUR BEFORE THEIR EVENT OR SKATER WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE COMPETITION ICE.
OFFICIAL NOTICES - An official bulletin board will be maintained in the Detroit Skating Club lobby. Posting of schedules and
announcements thereon shall constitute sufficient notice to competitors, coaches, chaperones and officials.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS - A competition schedule and practice times will be e-mailed to each competitor as soon as possible
after entry closing. Competition and practice ice schedule will also be posted on our web site at www.dscclub.com when it
becomes available. Check official bulletin board immediately upon arrival for any changes. NO ADMISSION FEE WILL BE
CHARGED FOR ANY EVENT.
OFFICIAL ARENAS - All competition events will take place at the Detroit Skating Club, 888 Denison Court, Bloomfield Hills,
Michigan. DSC has three (3) heated ice rinks. Surfaces measure 85’ x 200’ (A & B rinks) and 100’ x 200’ (C rink). The arenas
have locker rooms. Ample parking and a concession area are available.
MUSIC - Music will be reproduced through the arena system on CD’s furnished by each competitor. All CD’s must be clearly
marked with name, event and actual time of music ON THE SIDE TO BE PLAYED. CD’s (compact discs) must have only ONE
track on it. In the case of short and long programs, two separate discs must be used. Any disc with more than one track will
not be accepted. Damaged or improperly marked CD’s will not be accepted. COMPETITORS MUST HAVE A SUITABLE
BACKUP CD RINK SIDE DURING HIS/HER EVENT. ALL MUSIC MUST BE TURNED IN AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION.
CD/RW’s ARE STRONGLY DISCOURAGED.
COMPETITION EVENTS AND ELIGIBILITY
FREE SKATE - Skaters may skate one event above current test level. Only one free skate event may be entered. There will
be a final round for Juvenile Free Skate event. Intermediate, Novice, Junior and Senior events are combined and will have
final rounds if numbers warrant. Numbers advancing to final round will be at the discretion of the referee. Times for Free
Skate (Long Programs) are +/- 10 seconds; times for Short Programs are maximums.

U.S. FIGURE SKATING QUALIFICATIONS
Not passed U.S. Figure Skating tests higher than basic skills
free skating badge tests or its equivalent. Maximum 5 jump
elements: jumps with no more than ½ rotation (front to back
or back to front including half-loop); single rotation jumps;
salcow and toe loop only. Maximum 2 jump combinations or
sequences; maximum 2 of any same jump. Maximum 2
spins: 2 upright spins, change of foot optional, no flying
entry, minimum 3 revolutions. Connecting moves and spins
should be demonstrated throughout program.
Not passed the Pre/Preliminary Free Skate test or its
equivalent. Maximum 5 jump elements: single jumps with
the exception of a single axel are allowed; up to 2 may be
jump combos or sequences; jump combos are limited to 2
jumps; jump sequences are limited to 3 single jumps (half
loop is not considered a single jump at this level). No single
axels, double jumps or triple jumps.
Maximum 2 spins:
Spins may change feet and/or position; spins may start with
a fly; each spin must have a minimum 3 revolutions; spins
must be of a different character (See rule 4103E). Step
sequence must utilizes ½ of ice surface; moves in the field
and spiral sequences are permitted but not counted as
elements. Jumps may be included in step sequence.

IN ORDER TO PURCHASE PRACTICE ICE IN ADVANCE, PLEASE SUBMIT ONLINE WITH YOUR
APPLICATION AND THE APPROPRIATE FUNDS NO LATER THAN MAY 30, 2015. ALL FEES ARE NONREFUNDABLE. WARMUP SESSIONS WILL BE ASSIGNED ON THE DAY OF THE COMPETITION AND THE
ADDITIONAL SESSIONS WILL BE ASSIGNED ON NON-COMPETITION DAYS. (Please note that some
practice ice sessions may start as early as 6:00 am or end as late as 11:00 pm).

IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO PRE-PURCHASE PRACTICE ICE UPON REGISTRATION, OR IF YOU
WOULD LIKE ADDITIONAL PRACTICE ICE, YOU WILL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO PURCHASE ONLINE
FOR $16.00 PER SESSION. ONLINE PURCHASE WILL BE AVAILABLE AFTER THE COMPETITION
SCHEDULE HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED AND PRE-PURCHASED PRACTICE SESSIONS HAVE BEEN
ASSIGNED. YOU WILL RECEIVE AN EMAIL WHEN THE PRACTICE ICE SCHEDULE IS AVAILABLE
ONLINE.

PRACTICE SESSIONS CAN ALSO BE PURCHASED IN PERSON EACH DAY OF COMPETITION FOR
$17.00 PER SESSION AT THE PRACTICE ICE DESK.

PRACTICE ICE IS ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS.

THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS OR SWITCHING OF PRACTICE ICE SESSIONS PERMITTED. IF YOU
SCRATCH FROM THE COMPETITION, YOU WILL FORFEIT ALL FUNDS PAID AND YOUR RIGHT TO SKATE
ON ANY PRACTICE ICE PURCHASED.

WE WILL TRY TO ACCOMMODATE EACH COMPETITOR WITH PRACTICE ICE CLOSE TO THEIR
EVENT TIME. NOT ALL PRACTICE SESSIONS WILL BE ON THE COMPETITION SURFACE.




MUSIC WILL NOT BE PLAYED ON PRACTICE ICE SESSIONS.
THE PRACTICE ICE SCHEDULE WILL BE POSTED ON OUR WEBSITE AT www.dscclub.com PRIOR TO
THE START OF THE COMPETITION.
WE WILL NOT GIVE PRACTICE ICE SCHEDULES OVER THE PHONE OR BY EMAIL.
FINAL ROUND PRACTICE ICE SESSIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE ONLY AFTER
INITIAL ROUND IS COMPLETED FOR $15 PER SESSION.

The Detroit Skating Club invites you to submit an acknowledgment for the 2015 Skate Detroit Program.
Historically, Skate Detroit is one of the largest non-qualifying competitions sanctioned by the U. S. Figure
Skating Association. The 2014 competition attracted more than 650 skaters from thirty states and
Canada, as well as hundreds of spectators.
In order for an acknowledgment to be included in this year’s program, all camera ready art should be
submitted by June 20, 2015. If you have any questions, please email the Detroit Skating Club at
