The objective is to provide compounded annual returns
that track the benchmark S&P 500® return in rising markets and to attempt to provide protection to client capital
in declining markets. Risk control utilizing stock selection
and sector weighting is a major feature of the portfolio’s
strategy. *
Accounting for gains, the maximum single-stock concentration is limited to approximately 5% of the portfolio.
Sector concentrations are limited to predefined multiples
of the S&P 500® benchmark. When fully invested, the
portfolio typically holds 38 to 48 stocks and 5% cash. Up
to 25% of the portfolio may be invested in US listed Canadian stocks and American Depository Shares (ADRs) of
major foreign companies. Initial single-stock positions are
typically 2% to 3% of the portfolio at cost.
Stock holdings and their weight in the model portfolio are
replicated in client portfolios. Client portfolio returns may
differ from the model portfolio due to variations in share
allocation and external considerations such as when a
client funds the portfolio or withdraws funds from the
portfolio.

The firm uses well-defined money management processes. Unlike attempts by some to ‘time the market’,
portfolio equity exposure in down-trending markets is
decreased as individual stocks meet sell criteria and
fewer stocks meet buy criteria. The opposite occurs in
up markets. Cash level is a dynamic of the buy–sell
process. The portfolio seeks to be fully invested consistent with market risk and the number of stocks
meeting buy and sell criteria.
