CLASSICAL DRAWING TECHNIQUES
INSTRUCTOR John
Chong
This is a systematic, step-by-step process to represent what
your eye sees. Typically, beginners of representational drawing
confuse what the eye sees with what the mind thinks it sees.
That confusion of information hinders accurate representational
drawing. Employing the classical method of drawing will enhance
your natural visual skills by keeping your thinking mind busy
with an analytic process of observation. That objective process
augments the visual authority of what you actually see and will
aid you in achieving accurate representational drawing. Please
see your course supply list online. Be sure to come prepared for
the first class.

Travel program - Laraos, Peru
Trip Escort: Gerald Forseth
Our travel program in 2013 to Laraos, Peru was such a success,
we’ve been invited to return!
Peru is a hot travel destination now, but experiencing visitor
fatigue at its most well-known sites. Come with ACAD off the
beaten track to see unspoiled Peru that enchants the world with
its magnificent vistas, ancient civilizations, delicious food and
lovely people.
The village of Laraos has maintained its traditional architecture
and culture, making it a rare example of indigenous, pre-Incan
ways of life still functioning in modern Peru. Its streets are narrow
stone stairways, houses are stone – some with traditional thatch
roofs. For at least the past three thousand years, citizens of
Laraos have worked the agricultural terraces that surround them
with ancient tools, producing year-round food and income for the
village.

ART TRAVEL | April 2014
Our trip to Peru last
spring was such a
success, we’ve been
invited to return!
This travel program brings a small group to Laraos during their
late summer-early fall when the weather is very pleasant. We stay
at their new hotel and venture out every day in our van with our
guides to visit other villages, hike to ancient ruins, participate
in local festivities and enjoy spectacular scenery in the Andes.
You can expect to be introduced to life customs, costumes,
dances, folk art and other aspects of the social and cultural past
and present and to hike to amazing ruins. An interpreter will be
available daily to increase your understanding of the sights and
activities. The trip will wrap up with a very special one-night
stay and culinary treat at Refugio de Santiago, located near
Lunahuana in the lower Rio Canete valley. Every day is full with
activities and different destinations, which you are free to join or

Travel program - Uzbekistan
Trip Escort: Gerald Forseth
The cities of Uzbekistan have been cultural crossroads where
East meets West for over a thousand years. Invaded, conquered
and ruled by a shifting mélange of Persian, Ottoman, Muslim and
Christian warriors, Uzbekistan is rich in archeological treasures:
palaces, mosques, and sepulchers immortalizing emperors,
tyrants, and caliphs; ancient cities and markets. The sweeping
scale of the scenery is a perfect counterpoint to the elaborate
turquoise mosaics that cover many structures.
Come with ACAD off the beaten track to see the splendor,
vastness and exotic markets of the rich Fergana Valley and its
Silk Road cities: Samarkand, Khiva, Bukhara and Tashkent. We
will travel by private van with a local guide and our Trip Escort,
Architect Gerald Forseth, jumping on a plane when the distance
is great.
This Travel Program brings a small group to Uzbekistan when
harvest is underway and the local food is diverse, fresh and
plentiful. We will stay in hotels and visit the architectural
highlights of each city as well as visit the markets with their silks,
carpets, brasswork and other artisans. Expect to eat well, see
fabulous structures and scenery, walk ancient streets with people
in local dress and participate in timeless customs like shopping
from camel caravans. An interpreter will travel with us to increase
your understanding of the sights and activities. Every day is full
with activities and different destinations, which you are free to
join or to venture off on your own.
Please join us for a presentation on Uzbekistan on Friday,
October 4th. Our Trip Escort, Architect Gerald Forseth, will
provide some history of the area, images from his travels in
Uzbekistan, and explain details of the program. The presentation
is free and open to everyone
