Through Thick & Thin

This scarf is made using a thick yarn (TDF) and a thin yarn (CAPRA). The silk in
both yarns gives it a lovely shine. The technique of sliding one row across the
length of the circular needle creates a subtle zig-zag look. All stitches are knit,
but it will not result in garter stitch. Make it as a gift for someone special, or
treat yourself to this luxurious accessory!
MATERIALS
SCARF
Short (Long)
Using long tail method, cast on 15
(12) stitches with Capra. Knit two
rows, drop Capra and join TDF. Knit
one row. Now – slide the row just
knitted with TDF to the other end of
the circular needle. Gently push, do
not pull, the stitches across. You have
completed the set-up and are ready to
knit using the following steps.
1 skein TDF by Mango Moon , 75% wool, 18% silk, 7% nylon (33 yds/100 g)
1 – Drop TDF, and knit three rows
with Capra
1 skein CAPRA or CAPRA TOO by Mango Moon, 75% kid mohair, 25% silk (270
yds/25 g)
2 – Drop Capra, bring TDF to the
front, and knit across row
Needles – Circular, size 17 in any length (straight needles will not work)
3 – Slide the row of TDF stitches
across the needle to the other end

Repeat these steps (3 rows of
Capra, 1 row of TDF) until you no
longer have enough TDF left to
complete another row. Then – knit
two more rows with Capra, and
loosely bind off. Weave in all ends.
Lightly block for best appearance. Do not soak the scarf in water – lay it out straight and
lightly mist or steam, do not pin or stretch.
DETAILS

Gauge – not important, but length may vary. It is important to use all of the
TDF

Finished size – short version is about 5” wide, 60” long; long version is about
3.5” wide, 72” long

Important note – Capra is used doubled throughout. Hold the inside and
outside ends of the skein together.
