During the 2015 Summer Music Clinic, students hone their skills in chamber music performance through coached sessions, interest-based class options, and faculty performances. Student ensembles perform a final concert for family and friends. Chamber music requires a high level of communication and commitment from each ensemble member for a positive artistic result. We encourage students to apply who have significant performance experience and are excited about the unique opportunity of working with other talented musicians in a concentrated week of study. COMPLETE BOTH SIDES of this application and mail with application payment of $595 by April 1, 2015. Staff Our teachers are experienced and knowledgeable chamber musicians who mentor ensembles through the creative process of rehearsal and performance. Schedule A typical day includes a coached chamber music session, individual practice time, choir for instrumentalists, and a class schedule chosen from the following options: Renaissance and Baroque History; The Sixties; String Fundamentals for Chamber Performance; Keyboard Topics; The Creative Musician; Composition; Percussion Ensemble; and Acting. The evening activities include faculty and student recitals, as well as yoga for performers. Individual coaching sessions cover topics such as intonation, note lengths, phrasing, visual contact, and musical interpretation. How to Apply The enrollment for the advanced chamber program is limited by ensemble grouping and levels. The application procedure requires participants to provide a current solo, chamber, and large ensemble literature list and performance background, as well as email contact information for a music teacher familiar with the student’s abilities and accomplishments. This allows Summer Music Clinic staff to contact a mentor familiar with the student’s performance background and ensure they are assigned appropriate level ensemble literature. Music for the program will be sent out prior to the chamber session to allow for practicing. Ten UW-Madison Tuition Remission Awards College Registrants who are permanent legal residents of Wisconsin, are completing their junior year at a Wisconsin high school, and will attend the 2015 Summer Music Clinic Chamber Session may audition for the tuition awards. Students may audition on a brass, woodwind, or string instrument (piano and guitar not included).
