You will work side-by-side with talented young musicians from around the Midwest and still have time for camp socializing and recreation. After a week of concentrated rehearsals and classes, your family and friends are invited to hear you perform at the final concerts. Many campers arrive at our program and meet their roommates for the first time. Campers make new friends as a natural extension of the Music Clinic residence and learning experience. Our caring counselors and daily floor meetings make it easy for dorm residents to get to know new people. If you do not include a friend’s name on your registration form, you are paired by grade for your dormitory assignment. You can select a schedule that matches your interests, starting with your involvement in band, orchestra, choir, musical theater, and jazz ensemble. Then choose from class options that are more specific to your personal interests, such as string topics, jazz percussion, or music theory. Our enthusiastic counselors offer upbeat and creative activities for recreation time. You can unwind after classes by joining others in ultimate Frisbee, aerobics, volleyball or basketball, board games, jam sessions, arts and crafts, and, maybe something spontaneous like a water balloon contest. Highly Qualified Staff Our teachers are chosen for their talent and excellence as music educators and are drawn from around the country. Music Clinic group lesson teachers are specialists, and students acquire knowledge on topics specific to their areas, such as tone production and warm ups. If you choose to be a residential student, you will live in Ogg Hall, the newest residence on the UW-Madison campus. You’ll spend your week in spacious rooms, designed as doubles, that are air-conditioned and have small refrigerators. College-age counselors supervise you in the residence halls and plan daily recreation including athletics, crafts, and social activities. In the evening you also attend concerts performed by guest artists, faculty members, and students. If you choose this option you need to include that person’s name on your camp application, and your friend must include your name on his or her application. The Clinic office needs to receive requests from both roommates by the application deadline to honor your preference. Commuter Option The commuter camp day begins with Music Clinic rehearsals and classes at 8am and finishes at 4:30pm. Campers are asked to check in with commuter counseling staff in the morning and to check out at the end of the day before leaving campus. The commuter fee includes tuition, lunch, and a camp T-shirt.
