A Project Linus Blanket is like a HUG when it is needed the most
What is Project Linus? Project Linus is a national volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, named after the
security blanket-toting character from the Peanuts comic strip.
Project Linus has a two-fold mission:
First, to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized,
or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer
“blanketeers.”
Second, to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local
communities, for the benefit of children.
Project Linus is active in all 50 States with over 400 chapters. As a result of the combined efforts of dedicated
“blanketeers,” over 4.4 MILLION blankets have been donated to children in crisis since 1998. The South Bay /
San Jose, CA chapter was formed in April 2002 and our volunteers have lovingly hand made and donated over
50,000 blankets to date. Some of our blanket recipient organizations are:

How You Can Help:
Become a blanketeer. Make a blanket (some don’t even require any sewing!) and donate it to the local chapter of
Project Linus. Find out more about making blankets and where to donate them at our website www.sjlinus.org.
Donate blanket making supplies and/or money to the chapter to purchase blanket making supplies. You can
donate online at www.sjlinus.org or mail donations to Project Linus c/o 11061 S Stelling Rd Cupertino CA 95014.
Organize a group (Scouts, school service clubs, church classes, sports teams, family, friends) to make blankets;
Project Linus is an ideal Service Project for children to help other children.

NATIONAL MAKE A BLANKET DAY

Get Involved! Have fun! No Experience Necessary!
* Come to St. Edward’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, February 16th from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and help make blankets.
Join us for the entire event or a couple hours – all help is appreciated!
* You may bring your own Project Linus blanket project to complete or try one of our group projects:
** To make no-sew fleece blankets, bring 1-1/2 yards of kid-friendly, patterned fleece for each blanket
you’d like to make. (We may have a few pieces of fleece available, depending on recent donations.)
** Knitters and crocheters - bring bright or pastel machine washable yarns, knitting needles, and/or]
crochet hooks to make 10” squares and/or help us join 10” squares together to make patchwork blankets.
** Quilters - bring your sewing machine, scissors and rotary cutter. We will be making simple strip quilts
and there will be supplies available. We will supply batting and backing and someone to quilt or tie them.
We already have some quilts which need to be tied and some quilt tops which have been donated which we
need to have backings made, be ‘pillow-cased’ and then tied.
* Drop off completed blankets or knitted/crocheted 10-inch squares (and acrylic yarn donations)
* Come help label, tag and bag blankets for distribution as needed or help with other non-blanket tasks that keep
our chapter going (eg tie quilts, prep fleece for ‘skip-stitching’, make blanket tags, newsletter prep and more)
* We will have door prizes and a potluck lunch this year (bring a dish to share)
Just a reminder, all blankets must be handmade with all new, machine washable materials. Our minimum blanket size
is 36”x36” (no fringe on small/baby blankets please). Donations of new handmade quilts, single layer fleece blankets
with a handmade finished edge, crocheted and knitted blankets are all welcome.
