PRESIDENT’S REPORT
MARCH – APRIL 2015
Hello,
Welcome to May’s Newsletter. I wish someone
would put the brakes on as this year’s going too
fast,
Our BIGGEST MORNING TEA is fast
approaching on Wednesday, 20th May, from 10am
onwards. All we ask for is a Gold Coin donation
(all moneys to go to Cancer research), so come
along, bring your friends and have a cuppa with us.
A big thank you goes to TWEED HEADS Bowls
Club who each year kindly donate the yummy
scones to us.
Our Hair/ Beauty Salon is nearly finished and looks
great. We are looking at extending trading hours
so that the salon will be opened all day on
Thursdays.
The AGM will be held on Wednesday, 24th June at
9 am. If you would like to nominate for the
Committee, please see the front office staff for a
nomination form.
Stay Safe, Healthy & Happy.
Cheers Sue.

CONCERT REPORT
Another fabulous afternoon of
entertainment provided by the wonderful
talents of “BILL ALEXANDER” who has just
returned to the entertainment circuit after a year of
fighting a nasty cancer. It was wonderful to have
you back Bill and if anything you are performing
better than ever. With your magnificent voice you
thrilled us with a variety of songs from opera to pop
and a rendition of a good old George Formby song,
“When I'm Cleaning Windows”. You were
absolutely fantastic and we hope to have you back
again soon. Once again a big thank you to our
volunteers, Shirley and Brian Finch at front of
house and Sue Wickham and Margaret Catt looking
after the kitchen. Your help is invaluable.
Our next FREE concert will be on Monday 25th
May 2015 at 1-00pm Qld. time and will feature the
fabulous “DIXIE JAZZ BAND”. This multitalented group of local professional musicians will
enthral you as they play many of the “Traditional
Jazz” songs that you know and love to hear. So
come along for another wonderful afternoon of top
class entertainment.
BYO lunch/nibbles. Tea/Coffee available.
For enquiries and bookings (recommended) phone
07 5536 4050 or call into the Centre. Please note
bookings will only be held up to 10 minutes before

were able to have our ride on the trains. Lunch was
at the Casino RSM - Roast & Sweets (Yum). Then
we headed homeward bound after another great

EIGHT BALL CLUB
SWING or SWAY
Bill Coleman lived up to
his nickname of William
the Conqueror when he
won the final of the 2015
championships. Using
clever tactics and being
well and truly on form he won three games straight.
Nick Lawry was gallant in defeat as he was most
unlucky to suffer from severe back pain for the last
month or so. Let’s hope he gets
better soon as we miss him
attending our games three times a
week. Pictured is our ever popular
president Sue Wickham presenting

We had a great time on 30th April dressed up in our
favourite footy colours. Kimberley once again

INDOOR BOWLS.
Good to see our numbers improving
with new members and visitors, all of
whom seem to be enjoying the friendly
environment.
Everyone seems to be coping with the earlier start
time of 8.45 am, although we did have a few
“hiccups” one day. This caused some confusion,
but we ended up having a laugh about it all.
Thank you bowlers for being so understanding.
Happy bowling

A LITTLE BIT OF HUMOUR
A SHOCK IN THE DARK
After breaking into the house, the thief was busily
rifling through drawers and cupboards when he
thought he heard a voice saying, “Jesus is watching
you!”
He continued searching and again he heard the
words, “Jesus is watching you!”
He turned around and shone his torch,
and there in a cage was a parrot.
The thief asked, “Did you say that?”
“Yes.” Replied the parrot.
“You’re a clever parrot aren’t you? What’s your
name?”
“Herbert,” said the parrot.
“That’s a funny name for a parrot,” said
the thief.
“Not as funny as ‘Jesus’ is for a
Rottweiler!” said the parrot.

COORDINATOR’S REPORT
When we are experiencing extreme weather
conditions and activities have to be cancelled we try
to make announcements on radio 4CRB. This is
particularly the case of after-hours activities e.g.
the Night dances. Members who participate in
these activities should listen to 4CRB for
notification. It also would be advisable for
members to set up a “telephone tree” so everyone
can be advised.
