Coral Reef Coders Competition Fifth Grade 2015 Overview: Coral Reef Coders is holding a competition that will allow its members from the Fifth Grade to demonstrate their depth and breadth of knowledge in the areas of computer science. Competition Areas: Eligible members will be allowed to submit their own works in the following areas: Multimedia/Gaming Creation Web Page/Web Site Creation Learning Progress Competition entries must be received before 12:00AM – May 9th, 2015. Rules: Eligibility: Must be a member of the Coral Reef Coders as of 4/16/2015 Must be enrolled in the Fifth Grade at Coral Reef Elementary School as of 4/16/2015 Individual members only. No teams or groups. You may accept the assistance of other club members but awards will only be presented to the individual member. Submission of Entries: Multimedia/Gaming Creation – Email a link to the creation from its hosting site to [email protected] before 12:00AM – May 9th, 2015. Web Page/Web Site Creation – Email copies of all of the created HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, etc. files to [email protected] before 12:00AM – May 9th, 2015. Learning Progress – Add [email protected] as a teacher to your Khan Academy account. Lessons completed before 12:00AM – May 9th, 2015 will be considered. Multimedia/Gaming Creation Entries Original creations hosted by one of the following websites: o https://www.khanacademy.org/ o https://scratch.mit.edu/ o http://code.org/ Creations must be original. Spinoffs, Remixes or copies of other code or work will not be accepted. Creations must be shared directly from its respective hosting site and be accessible via a link. Web Page/Web Site Entries Web Page/Web Sites must be original creations. Files that include code that has been copied directly from other sources are not eligible. (No cut and paste) Web Pages must be able to be loaded from a web server and shown in Google Chrome. Web Pages may include links to external sites and resources. However, these will not be considered as part of the original creations. Web Pages may include script code such as JavaScript provided any additional script code held outside of the submitted web pages be included as part of the original work. Submissions may include multiple page and content files, such as images, script code, audio, css, etc. provided they are all submitted together and are properly linked to each other. Learning Progress Learning Progress will be measured by the number of completed lessons, quizzes, challenges, tests, etc. in the Computing area of Khan Academy under a single Khan Academy account. This includes Computer Programming, Computer Science and all of the lessons in the Hour of Code sections. Completed lessons must be sequential. No credit will be awarded for completed lessons that follow incomplete lessons, quizzes, challenges, tests, etc. (No gaps). This only applies to tutorial groups such as Intro to JS: Drawing and Animation or HTML/CSS: Making Webpages. Tutorial groups may be completed independent of each other. Award Selection: Winners will be selected by vote of the eligible members in the areas of Multimedia/Gaming and Web Page/Web Site Creation. Winners will be decided by the number of lessons completed on Khan Academy in the area of Learning Progress. Eligible members may submit only one creation per competition area. Votes will be collected via email from eligible members once creations have been made available online. Winners will be announced at the final meeting on May 14th, 2015. Prizes will be determined at a later date.
