We’ve all heard the saying “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, A Sixpence in your Shoe.” It is an old wedding day tradition to provide objects for the bride to carry or wear as good luck charms. “Something old represents continuity; something new offers optimism for the future; something borrowed symbolizes borrowed happiness; something blue stands for purity, love, and fidelity; and a sixpence in your shoe is a wish for good fortune and prosperity, although this remains largely a British custom.”* These items are often provided as gifts by the female relatives or attendants to the bride. They often hold sentimental value and are kept well after the wedding day as mementos. Jewelry, garters, veils and any number of other wedding day memorabilia is traditionally offered for these items. Specifically with the ‘Something blue...’ portion of the phrase, many brides add a touch of blue to their jewelry, bouquets, or garter. Carrie Bradshaw from HBO’s ‘Sex and the City’ ticked off this portion of the saying while starting the current trend of adding a hint of color to her bridal outfit by wearing blue shoes. Another new trend is sewing your husband’s name, ancestor’s names, new married name, etc. into the underside hem of your wedding gown in blue thread. In this new era of DIY and over-the-top detailed weddings, people are coming up with and abundance of new and creative ways to ensure they are carrying on with this tradition. Taking this as inspiration, our industry can easily provide products that fit in nicely with this tradition. You can make a scented lotion and package it in a beautiful cobalt blue bottle that’ll fit nicely in the bride’s purse. It’ll be great for the bride to use throughout the day and the bottle color will provide the perfect blue hue to satisfy the tradition. Any small guest soap in the perfect shade of navy, tiffany blue, cyan or cornflower could easily fit in a bride’s purse or pocket (yes! there are tons of wedding dresses with pockets these days - it’s about time, right?) and could provide a nice extra bit of perfume during the day and be a nice keepsake after the wedding day has passed. Take these ideas and the ones found in the following pages to help inspire a whole slew of bluetinted creations perfect for fall brides! Need help finding the perfect shade? Make sure to take a look at www.WholesaleSuppliesPlus.com for all of the different blue dyes we have available. While there, be sure to scope out all of the other supplies you’ll need to create ‘something blue’ for the brides in your life! * http://wedding.theknot.com/wedding-planning/wedding-customs/qa/wedding-traditions-the-meaning-of-something-old.aspx August 2013 4 www.WholesaleSuppliesPlus.com Featured Inspiration: Wedding Favors Inspiration ‘Favors’ the Bold! As wedding trends come and go, favors tend to have stuck around for the long run. Where once a box of matches or an embossed napkin were all the craze, now everyone is getting more and more creative with what they provide their guests as a nice ‘thank you’ for their attendance and a memento of the occasion. Some favors show up as a donation the couple makes to their favorite charity while other trends lean toward the more traditional individual gift per guest. These favors, however, have become more crafty and DIY than ever before. The three biggest categories we see out there in this DIY/craft-centered favor trend are edible favors (cake pops, candy, late-night snack packs), eco-friendly (plantable herbs, seeds, tree saplings) and keepsake home decor (photo frames, decorative soap, vases/mason jars). Did you notice? Decorative soap makes it on this list and is, quite frankly, all over the place. Check out any of the more popular wedding blogs (stylemepretty.com, 100layercake.com, greenweddingshoes.com) and you’ll see any number of weddings where soap has been front and center as a wedding favor. Some couples are making their own, but many are buying local products that they then package themselves to personalize for their wedding. For our industry, this latter option is a great compromise. It allows the couple to do a little DIY themselves, but purchase from a well-known expert soap maker. This type of sale is perfect for your online shop. Show a type of soap you’d love to sell in this manner, how the couple can personalize it (if you’d like), and list it on your online shop in a variety of quantities that will work for a number of weddings. For example, 100 guest soaps with personalized tags and packaging is $xxx.xx. The couple can then buy as many of that listing as they need and you have a predetermined order to deliver. Now for inspiration, any of the current trends listed above can easily be turned into cute soaps as well. Cake pops? Adorable soaps - just make sure everyone knows they can’t eat them! Natural/ eco-friendly soaps with all-natural ingredients - just what the eco-minded couple wants. As for attractive, decorative soaps that are themed toward the wedding itself, there are a multitude of options. We’ve stocked the following pages with ideas to help inspire a new line of wedding favor soaps! When you’re done reading through the information here, make sure to turn to www.WholesaleSuppliesPlus.com to get all of the supplies you need to start stocking up for the fall wedding rush. September is now the most popular month to get married*, so be prepared for any last minute orders that could come through! * http://weddingindustrystatistics.com August 2013 5 www.WholesaleSuppliesPlus.com Featured Inspiration: Primp & Prep Prepare for Bridal Primp Inspiration! For everyone else involved, weddings are a one day event full of fun and love. For brides, their ‘wedding’ starts as soon as they are engaged and, for many brides, they have been planning since childhood. While the main source of this wedding activity surrounds the preparation of the event itself, the bride also starts paying extra attention to her appearance. Planning for that one day where everyone’s eyes will be on her as she shines in her carefully chosen wedding dress, with perfect makeup and hair. Many brides start a regimented fitness and diet program to drop that dreaded ‘last 5 pounds’, while other brides start to take more notice of their skin, nails and hair so that they are in tip-top shape for that day. To some extent, all brides begin the road to prepping for that big day with some level of attention thrown toward their appearance. Spas and salons have eagerly started catering to this segment of customer and it’s a great opportunity for those of us in this industry to start doing the same! There are a multitude of products this industry produces that are perfect for bride-to-bes. From exfoliating facial scrubs to moisturizing foot balms, you can create products to cover every bride from head-to-toe. Creating packages of these items is a smart way to market specifically to this type of customer and can be a great way for you to get started in this side of the industry. Having a full line of bridal products can buoy your business during a seasonal slump. While there are definitely busier wedding seasons than others, couples continue to look toward all types of dates in the year to provide the best, most personal wedding date for them. This means wedding customers will always be ready to shop and buy the items that are important to them, creating a steady purchasing schedule that can help out when other typical buying seasons are slowing. Bridal shows open up another market of customers and selling opportunities. We are all familiar with the Farmer’s Markets, Craft Shows and online sales we currently use as our main selling outlets, so why not add Bridal Shows for an extra added bit of income? For the eco-friendly/natural bride, it can be difficult to find the products they desire from the mass markets. This creates a the perfect opportunity for the smaller handmade soap and cosmetic maker to generate the products they are craving. Creating all-natural products and marketing them as both bride AND earth friendly is sure to bring in this business. Looking for more inspiration? Then turn no further than the following pages and on www.WholesaleSuppliesPlus.com! We’ve got plenty of inspirational ideas and all of the supplies you’ll need to create these products. Prep now for the busy fall wedding season and let the products you create start a new line of business for years to come! Once soap has cooled to this temperature, spritz first soap cavity with alcohol 17.Pour blue soap over white ribbons. Spritz top to release air bubbles. Continue until entire soap tray is poured. Set aside until set up. 18.While soap is setting up, you can make the soap curls. For this step you will need a vegetable peeler. 19.Taking the white squares made in Step 5, use a vegetable peeler to shave off soap curls for top of gift box. Peeling all 4 squares will be enough for all 12 soap bars. 20.Once soap has set up, remove from mold. 21.If clear soap is left from Step 8, remelt for this step. Otherwise, melt about 1 oz. of clear soap in plastic beaker. 22.Spritz top of first box with alcohol. Using a plastic dropper, drizzle a small amount of clear soap in middle. Spritz some curls with alcohol and place in melted soap. Drizzle extra soap if they do not all stick. 23.Continue in this fashion will all soap boxes. NOTE: If you are making these products for sale, good manufacturing practices recommend you wear a hairnet, gloves and a mask. We also recommend a clean apron. 2. Weigh 4 oz. of Clear Suspension MP soap. Cut into small chunks and place in glass measuring cup. Heat in microwave about 30 seconds until soap is melted. 3. Taking the white soap cube, cut in half and add one half to the melted soap. Stir until all melted. Heat soap further if color bar is not completely dissolved. 4. Add 3 ml. of fragrance to colored soap. Mix well. 5. Divide the soap between all 6 mold cavities. Spritz with alcohol to dissolve surface bubbles. Allow soap to set up. 6. Once hardened, unmold the squares. Take 2 of the soap squares and cut each square into 6 separate strips for the ribbons. 7. Take 2 of the white strips and place one on top of the other to make a “+”. Cut off strip where it overlaps the other so they will fit in the cavity without overlapping. 8. Continue until you have enough for 6 gift soaps. 9. Weigh out 5 oz. of Suspension MP soap. Cut into chunks and heat in microwave until melted. Do not fragrance. 10.Pour small amount of clear into first cavity-just enough to cover the bottom. Spritz with alcohol, then spritz 3 ribbon strips and immediately place into clear soap in bottom of cavity. Spritz again with alcohol when ribbons are positioned. 11.Continue in this manner, one cavity at a time until all 6 cavities are finished. Let soap set up. 12.Remove entire 2 lb. tray of clear soap and an additional 4 oz. of soap from second tray. Cut up into small chunks and place in large glass measuring cup. 13.Heat soap in microwave until completely melted. Remove and stir to be sure all soap has melted. Weigh 20 oz. of the Basic White MP Soap Base. Cut up into chunks and place in large glass bowl. 3. Heat in microwave at 30 second intervals until the soap is melted. 4. Add .5 oz. of fragrance oil and mix well. 5. Place Rectangle Soap Mold on a cookie sheet. This will help stabilize the mold should it need to be moved. 6. Pour melted soap into all 4 cavities. Spritz the top of the soap with alcohol to dissolve any surface air bubbles. Set aside and allow soap to solidify. 7. Once soap is hardened, unmold white rectangle soap base and create soap curls. You can use a potato peeler to get large curls or a cheese grater to get white shavings. Or, make a little of both. Set soap curls aside until Step 20. 8. Weigh and cup up 8 oz. of Crystal Clear MP Soap. Place in glass measuring cup and heat in microwave at 30 second intervals until all soap is melted. 9. Add .5 oz. of fragrance and mix in well. 10.Add 1.5 ml Matte Cobalt Blue Liquid Pigment to melted soap and stir well to mix in. 11.Place heart tube soap mold on a cookie sheet. This will give the mold stability should it need to be moved. 12.Pour blue soap into 4 of the small heart tubes. Spritz the tops of the soaps with alcohol and allow soap to harden. 13.Once soap has hardened, unmold blue heart tubes and cut each tube into thirds. Each piece should be about 1 1/4 inch long. Set aside until Step 19. 14.Weigh and cut up 20 oz. of Crystal Clear MP Soap Base. Place in glass measuring cup and heat in microwave at 30 second intervals until all soap has melted. 15.Add .5 oz. of fragrance oil and mix in. Add about 10 drops of Matte Cobalt Blue Liquid pigment to give the clear soap a bluish tint. This will make the white curls pop in the soap. 16.Add desired amount of Iridescent Sparkle Glitter to the melted soap and stir in. 17.Allow soap to cool down to about 125° F before pouring. If too hot, it will melt the white soap curls. 18.Place Rectangle Soap Mold on a cookie sheet. This makes it easier to move the mold without disturbing the soap. 19.Place one blue heart tube in each cavity of the Rectangle Mold. Be sure to place the heart so that it can be seen through the window of the soap box. 20.Fill the remaining area of the soap cavity with the white soap curls/shavings made earlier. 21.Heavily spritz each cavity with alcohol to ensure the clear soap adheres to all of the soap curls. 22.Once soap has cooled to 125° F, pour clear glitter soap over the white curls in each of the four cavities. 23.Spritz top of each cavity with alcohol to pop any surface bubbles. Set aside and allow soap to harden. 24.Repeat Steps 14-23 until all 12 soap bars have been made. 25.Package as desired and enjoy. We recommend wrapping tightly with plastic wrap then placing in white soap boxes. Wholesale Supplies Plus is not responsible for the products you create from our supplies. To Make Lilies: Weigh 8 oz. of ultra white soap. Cut up into chunks and place in glass measuring cup. 3. Heat until soap has melted, about 30-45 seconds. Remove and stir soap. 4. Add 1.5 oz. of glycerin and 7 ml of fragrance oil. The glycerin will make the soap pliable so it can be molded into a calla lily. 5. Pour a thin layer into the bottom of 6 heart cavities. Pour just enough to cover the bottom of cavity. If soap is too thick, it will not bend. Spritz the soap with rubbing alcohol to release any surface bubbles. 6. Let soap set up - about 10 minutes. Carefully remove from mold and set aside. 7. If soap has hardened, remelt to pour another 6 hearts. Let harden, then remove from mold. There should now be 12 white hearts. 8. To Make Pistons: Weigh 1.5 oz. of clear soap. Add 1/4 cube of yellow color bar and place in bowl with clear soap. 9. Heat in microwave until soap and color bar have melted. Pour soap into 2 of the heart cavities and spritz with alcohol. 10.When soap has hardened, carefully remove from mold. Using a soap cutter, cut each heart in half lengthwise. Cut slivers of yellow at an angle so there is a point at one end. Continue until there are 12 pistons. 11.Melt 1 oz. of the clear soap in small beaker. This will be the “glue” to hold the flower together. For this step, you will need a small children’s paintbrush. 12.Taking one heart with the point facing up, fold the sides in towards the middle. Gently pull the sides out slightly so they are more rounded. Microwave Soap Cutter Scale (for weighing soap) Spray Bottle filled with Rubbing Alcohol Beaker Glass Measuring Cup Paintbrush - Children’s Size Thermometer 13.Take one piston and place in the middle of the flower and squeeze sides of lily together. If the piston is too thick, it can be trimmed or place it more towards the hole in the bottom of the flower. Try to position piston so it is sticking up in lily. 14.Using the paintbrush, paint the clear soap around the sides of the flower where the flower and piston meet. Pinch sides together until soap hardens. Add more “glue” if needed to hold the sides together. 15.Continue until all 12 calla lilies are made. Trim excess piston at the bottom of the lily if it is sticking out from the flower. 16.Weigh and melt 5 oz. of suspension soap. Add 3.5 ml of fragrance oil and 1 tsp. of the turquoise glitter. Stir well. 17.Pour soap into the bottom of the 4 oval cavities. Spritz top of soap with alcohol. 18.Spritz the bottom of one lily and place down into the blue soap but leave the top of the flower slightly raised so not laying flat. Continue with the other 3 cavities. 19.Melt 16 oz. of the crystal clear soap. Do not add any fragrance. This can sometimes cloud the soap. 20.When the temperature of the soap has reached 125°F, soap is ready to pour. 21.Spritz the entire soap cavity well with alcohol and pour the clear soap into the cavity until it reaches the top. Spritz again with alcohol. 22.Pour remaining 3 soaps and let soap completely harden. 23.Once soap has completely set up, about 2 hours, carefully remove from mold. 24.Repeat Steps 16-23 twice to make remaining 8 soaps. Recipe will yield 12 soaps when finished. 25.Packaging Suggestion: Wrap soaps tightly with plastic wrap. Place in oval window soap box so the lily can be seen. This will make it look more rustic and handmade. 8. Allow soap to set up overnight. 9. Before unmolding, lay down a layer of parchment or wax paper on your work area. This will catch any toppings if they fall off when unmolding. 10.Gently pull sides of mold away from soap. Carefully turn mold over and gently push on bottom to release soap. Turn soap right- side up. 11.Cut the bars of soap along the score lines. Cut each bar in half lengthwise and then widthwise, creating four small rectangles from each larger rectangle bar. 12.Package 2 different mini rectangles together in a Cello Bag with Brown Crinkle Paper. To help avoid smudges on the bag, you can use two pieces of cardboard or some other flat material to guide the soap into the bag and then pull out the cardboard. 13.Make two folds at the top of the Cello Bag then punch two holes with a hole puncher. Accept credit cards. In Psychology Today, cognitive scientist Art Markman explains that people tend to forget prices more quickly and value them less when they’re paying with a credit card — versus parting with cold, hard cash. Likewise, impulse buying and average order sizes increase when customers can pay with credit. Simply accepting credit cards can not only help you to command better profit margins, it can boost the likelihood you’ll succeed in selling lower-priced “add-ons,” as well as higher-priced items. If you’ve previously shied away from accepting credit cards assuming that you don’t know enough about the technology, or don’t do enough business to justify the cost, it’s time to familiarize yourself with the many affordable payment options that empower all types of small businesses regardless of where, how—or how much they sell. Here are some of the best payment processing options for small businesses ready to start boosting their business by accepting credit cards. WePay Not sure how to even go about developing your website so it’s equipped to accept online credit card payments? No problem. WePay equips you with everything you need to start accepting credit cards—including the ability to simply drag and drop provided HTML code to create “buy” and “register” buttons for your website. Its “We Pay Page Builder” even walks you through the entire process of building your own simple web store, complete with assistance for accommodating shipping and handling, tax and inventory. Though WePay offers secure payment processing, customers will never know that they have been transferred from your site to a third party vendor, which helps simplify the customer experience and reduce shopping cart abandonment. Rates are competitive at just 2.9% per transaction + .30 cents. 2Checkout Also with rates as low as 2.9% per transaction + .30 cents, 2Checkout’s Direct Checkout and Dynamic Checkout products facilitate credit card, debit card and Paypal payments, and can also be customized and branded to give the appearance that customers are still on your site throughout the checkout process. Direct Checkout features save the customer from having to input their customer information, shipping and billing information more than once, and accommodates international sales, offering service in different languages and currencies. You’ll be paid for sales every Thursday via wire transfer, check or a reloadable debit MasterCard. PayAnywhere With PayAnywhere’s free card reader and app that is compatible with Blackberry, iPhone and Android devices you can accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover cards with a transaction fee of 2.69% per swipe. You can also issue preauthorizations, voids, and refunds from either the app or the company’s website. Because the checkout process is fully customizable, you can input several categories and pricing for all the items you for faster checkout and fewer errors. Unlike many other mobile payment providers, PayAnywhere doesn’t just accommodate credit card transactions; you can accept and track cash payments and discounts, and send customized receipts to customers via email. Breadcrumb by Groupon Though it’s marketed to restaurants, Breadcrumb is one of the most affordable payment solutions (rates are just 1.8% and 15 cents per swipe transaction) and accommodates all small business owners who sell several items, and can use an iPad to conduct sales. You’ll especially benefit if you do less than five figures (or more than six) in monthly sales, and have an average order of at least $26. Though you’ll pay $15 for the card reader (offered for free by most other mobile payment processors), the current promotion waives fees on your first $5,000 in sales. August 2013 28 www.WholesaleSuppliesPlus.com 3 Steps to getting things done Is maintaining focus difficult for you? If you’re an entrepreneur, most likely it is. You see, entrepreneurs are blessed (and cursed) with busy, brilliant, creative minds. Why is that a curse as well as a blessing? Well, sometimes no matter how hard we try, we just can’t seem to quiet the creative mind long enough to focus on the tedious work of completing our goals. There are mental distractions everywhere! You know what I’m talking about: those “bright and shiny objects” that all look so promising? They sure do get in the way of productivity, don’t they? What a dilemma! We’d be hard-pressed to succeed without those right-brained qualities and innovative ideas, but how do we let the logical left brain function take over when the creative right brain wants to run the show? How can we make sure our ideas get the attention they deserve yet also pay attention to the action steps necessary to make our big picture goal come to fruition? One of the tricks is to make sure that any bright and shiny objects you consider pursuing are in harmony with the big picture. Don’t let every opportunity detour you; this robs you of time that you could be putting into your dream. Use the first tip below to help you decide if a goal or opportunity is worth fitting in. Then move on to steps 2 and 3 and watch how efficiently you can get it to done! 1. Examine it. Consider all of the reasons that you want to pursue this idea and list its benefits on paper. Are you doing this for the right reasons? Do you feel that it is in integrity with your values, vision, and your business model? If not, this is the time and place to revise the goal until it feels right or eliminate it altogether. Don’t limit yourself to logic when you are making these determinations; use your intuition as well. 2. Make it friendly. Once you are certain that your new goal is a good fit create a friendly document for each series of steps you will take to make it happen. Also create a timeline. When will you have each phase or step complete? For instance, when will the outline of my e-book be complete? etc. I leave my timeline document open on my PC’s desktop. Between client sessions I refer to it to see what the next action step is - and I DO IT. 3. Make it a habit. Now the trick is to remember to look at your working document. Until it becomes habit, put a reminder in your calendar or sticky notes throughout your home, car and office. Referring to your task list needs to become automatic so that you don’t get off track with other projects and grand ideas that can wait until another time. Tip: Schedule blocks of time at least 3 times a week to work on your goals and do not allow interruptions. Turn off email, unplug the phone, and put a Do Not Disturb sign on your office door! If you have young children and work from home, honor your vision by bringing in a sitter or getting involved in a babysitting exchange. Before you know it you’ll be looking back on your achievements and forward to a better life! It’s often said that word-of-mouth is the best form of advertising, and it’s also the cheapest. Subject Matter Expert There’s a fairly easy way to get your name and company mentioned in articles if you’re an expert in a particular field. For example, if you own a computer repair business and can talk effectively about computers in a way that laymen can understand, you can be a source for reporters and writers who cover this dynamic technology. They have a continuous need for knowledgeable experts who know their stuff inside and out. You may be quoted, you’ll get a mention in their article, and it costs you nothing but a little time. This could open the door to late afternoon and Saturday morning classes to a huge group of potential young customers. If they get hooked on dancing, they could be with you for years to come. States that do not currently require EPA registration. The active ingredients in these non-registered products were evaluated for safety in the 1990’s and include many “natural” components like essential oils and botanicals. It was determined at that time that these specific active ingredients posed minimal risk to human health. Based on this minimal risk determination, the EPA determined that products made from these ingredients should be exempt from registration. Products made from these ingredients have not been evaluated for effectiveness, only for safety of the active ingredients. The EPA is considering whether repellent products should be removed from the exemption altogether because effectiveness is critical to disease prevention which is the underlying intent of a repellent. Examples of some ingredients used in non-registered insect repellents are citronella oil, cedar oil, geranium oil, peppermint oil and soybean oil. [2] Minimum risk pesticides are a special class of pesticides that are not subject to federal registration requirements because their ingredients are demonstrated as safe for the intended use. To satisfy the conditions required for federal minimum risk status, all five of the following conditions must be met: If you advertise (in print, online, by word of mouth or by any other means) that your product “kills”, “repels”, “protects against” or imply that the intended use of your non-registered product is to perform these functions, you are making a claim that ultimately should be validated through independent testing. Manufacturing pesticide products in a non-agricultural facility falls under Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OSHA) jurisdiction. Working with pesticides, even natural ingredients that act as pesticides, requires appropriate personal protection equipment for all workers who may come into contact with these materials. Failure to comply can result in OSHA intervention and fines. In short, it is possible to offer a natural repellent product as a small or micro-business. The new program will be called WSP Loyalty Rewards and offers the following benefits to all retail customers. • Customers will earn a higher percentage of WSP loyalty rewards per purchase – which can be used as payment on future orders. •Change: In the old program, rewards were split between future order discounts and rewards. Very often customers had to place multiple orders to accumulate enough points to obtain an order discount. • The entire invoice will be used to calculate loyalty rewards. This means if you need to upgrade your shipping, you will earn a reward on the expedited shipping charges. •Change: In the old program, only product purchases were used to calculate rewards. • Rewards will be issued 2 weeks after an invoice ships. •Change: In the old program, customers had to wait up to 90 days to be issued WSP rewards. • Rewards can be used to pay for up to 25% of an order. •Change: In the old program they could be used for 50% of the order. • Rewards are good for 1 year after date issued. •Change: In the old program rewards expired after 90 days. Since many people have been accumulating points for future discounts and have been trying to attain the next level, we have come up with a solution. As a promotion to launch our new program, we are automatically bumping customers points to take their account to the next usable reward level. These points, as well as any other points in your account will have an expiration date of 90 days. Starting immediately you will begin earning WSP Loyalty Rewards on all new purchases. How to Redeem WSP Loyalty Rewards: • You may log into your account at any time and check your rewards available This page will display your order date and reward accumulation. The page will also reflect rewards that have been removed from your account for reasons such as product refunds and reward redemption. • When you place an order and begin the checkout process, our system will verify the order against your reward balance and program rules. If you are eligible to redeem rewards, you will be presented with the opportunity to use rewards for savings on that order. If you prefer to grow your reward bank for larger future savings, you will have the opportunity to save the rewards and not use them on this order. • If you choose to redeem the rewards, just enter the dollar amount of rewards you wish to use. The savings will be shown on your invoice and the total dollar for products purchased is reduced. Since I’m not even dating at the moment it is hard to think about. But for now, I think I’d probably make SOAP… of course!!! - Carmen G. • Matches with our names printed on them. - Sue B. HANDMADE COS ME T IC A LLIA NCE "Supporting Over 250,000 Small Handmade Cosmetic Microbusiness and the Communities They Serve" The Handmade Cosmetic Alliance is an alliance of artisans, business owners, cosmetic and soap makers from across the country that want to preserve the freedom to produce and sell handmade soap & cosmetics in the USA The Handmade Cosmetic Alliance works with federal legislators to preserve handmade cosmetic and soap microbusinesses and the community based, main street jobs they support. The HCA has four simple messages for legislators: 1. Support the creation of a federal microbusiness definition as a small business that together with affiliates, have average annual gross receipts of two million five hundred thousand dollars ($2,500,000) or less over the previous three years, or is a manufacturer with 25 or fewer employees. 2. Support the nation’s over 250,000 handmade cosmetic companies by providing microbusiness exemptions for facility registration and fees so that these companies may continue to create local jobs and contribute to local economies. 3. Support handmade cosmetic microbusinesses by providing exemptions for regulatory paperwork which drives up the cost of doing business, making it nearly impossible to operate a profitable handmade cosmetic business. 4. Support handmade cosmetic microbusinesses by providing publicly accessible federal resources as a way to foster growth of these emerging companies in the United States. “Advocating Policies That Support Handmade Cosmetic & Soap Microbusinesses and the Communities They Serve.” For More Information and to Get Involved, visit handmadecosmeticalliance.org August 2013 42 www.WholesaleSuppliesPlus.com Sponsors Sponsors ESSENTIAL OILS 100% Pure Essential Oils are perfect for you cosmetic needs.
